"Eclipse"-related Twitter posts really came out of the woodwork today. David Slade offered a status update and explained what he's going to do when he finally finishes the film. Alex Meraz realized he needed to acquire some suits for a premiere and a couple of screenings, and Tinsel Korey posted a shot of few cast members you should recognize.
In other topics, World Cup indifference was just as popular as World Cup excitement this week. You can check out who thinks the massively popular sporting invent is overrated after the jump. Those thoughts, the status of "The Vampire Diaries" Season 2 and Olivia Wilde's thoughts on her first night shooting "Cowboys and Aliens" are all a part of Twitter-Wood for June 11, 2010. An incredible thing happened this week. A short film adaptation of a video game emerged on the Internet. Against all odds and a lengthy history of mediocre to downright foul game-to-film adaptations, this one turned out to be good. Not just good, but great. Superb!
I'm referring to "Fame" director Kevin Tancharoen's proof-of-concept short titled "Mortal Kombat Rebirth," which is of course based on the classic, exceedingly gory fighting game franchise. My first thought upon hitting play was that it must have been a fan video. Then Michael Jai White, star of "Black Dynamite," appeared on the screen and I knew this was something more thought out, something special.
It turns out that it was. Tancharoen shot the short with a $7500 budget and help from some of his friends in the Hollywood film community. The video was dropped on the web intentionally, an appeal directly to fans that this is a feature that should be made. The response so far has been tremendous, with more than 1 million views clocked for the short. So I got White on the phone today to chat about the experience of creating the short. Read more...

A funny thing happens in "The A-Team." An attractive, young starlet, Jessica Biel has a lead role and yet she never once bares much more than an arm or two. In fact, it's Bradley Cooper who shows off the most skin. It's an odd gender reversal; typically, a Hollywood blockbuster puts just as strong a focus on objectifying female cast members as it does on giant explosions and over-the-top set pieces. According to Biel, who spoke to MTV's Josh Horowitz at the "A-Team" press junket, it was all part of director Joe Carnahan's plan.
"That was a big part that Joe and I talked about," she said. "This character is not gratuitous. She's not there to look cute and be pretty and be a girl thrown into the mix. She's really there for a plot reason. She's the lynchpin of the story." Read more...

"Eclipse" isn't out until June 30. That's a hella long time from now if you're a "Twilight" fan -- certainly not as long as the wait to the November 2011 release of "Breaking Dawn" -- but I'll bet you'd rather not wait even one more day for "Eclipse," let alone 19.
Well this won't cure what ails you, but it will definitely fill the void for a little while. What we have here is the latest "Twilight" parody from the funny folks at Evil Iguana Productions. Is 8 minutes of not-"Twilight" enough? It's going to have to be. Enjoy!

Sharlto Copley came out of nowhere last year, a newcomer actor who impressed the hell out of everyone with his performance in Neill Blomkamp's exceptional sci-fi flick, "District 9." It was quite a turnaround too, for him to jump from that to this weekend's big release, "The A-Team"-- he would have to have pretty much gone straight from promoting "District 9" to shooting "A-Team." And as it turns out, he did! Strangest of all, however, was the audition process: stuck on the road promoting his debut effort, Copley had to make do with what was around him and send in a tape.
"It was pretty surreal. It all happened pretty fast," he said. "I was promoting district 9 when ['A-Team' casting started]. I actually shot a series of scenes in my hotel room that I called 'Things That Could Happen to Murdock in a Hotel Room.' I sent those to [director] Joe Carnahan and that's how I got the role." Sounds hilarious. What was on that tape? Read more...

In an excitingly odd and unexpected twist, filmmaker George Miller is returning to the universe of "Mad Max" for his upcoming sequel "Fury Road." Tom Hardy is stepping in for the title role once filled by Mel Gibson. And Charlize Theron... well... we're not really sure what her part in the story is, other than the fact that it's a lead role.
Sadly, she's not saying anything. In fact, she's convinced that Miller or one of his lackeys is spying on her to make sure that nothing is said about the film out of school. MTV's Josh Horowitz put in his most valiant effort when he spoke to her on the red carpet at the Spike Guy's Choice Awards last weekend. She's not talking though, other than to gush about how excited she is to join this much-loved franchise.

Last summer's "Transformers" sequel may have boasted the subtitle "Revenge of the Fallen," but it's the third installment in the robot-smashing franchise that could be borrowing the implications of that subtitle. Even Shia LaBeouf has owned up to the failings of "Transformers 2," and in an interview with USA Today, director Michael Bay himself followed suit — but he believes that "Transformers 3" will be better.
There's a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime "Transformers" character who lords over Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons are smashing each other to pieces on Earth. The film will deal with the space race between the USA and the U.S.S.R. But most importantly, "Transformers 3" will put a cap on Bay's trilogy, as the director explained: "[The franchise] could be rebooted again, but I think it has a really killer ending."
In other words, there's a very real possibility that this is Bay's swan song when it comes to the "Transformers" series. Read more...

For the record, I'd be perfectly okay with more "Rambo." Star Sylvester Stallone is always fun to see on screen and the 2008 return of his grizzled Vietnam vet was a better-than-it-should've-been exercise in kickass action and excessive gore. Sadly, it looks like more John Rambo exploits are not to be.
Speaking with MTV's Josh Horowitz at the Spike Guy's Choice Awards this past weekend, Stallone revealed that he is "99 percent sure" that Rambo's fighting days are over. Running through a description of the 2008 film's last scene, he explained that that felt like "the legitimate finale" for the series to him.
So very sad. Until "The Expendables" drops in August and Rambo is reborn in spirit in Stallone's character, Barney "The Schizo" Ross!

The past 24 hours -- really, 12 hours -- have brought with them a rash of everyone-knew-it-was-coming breaking news. Let's start with the most nuclear bit: "Breaking Dawn," the final chapter in Stephenie Meyer's "Twlight" series, will be split into two movies. The first one is still set for a November 2011 release and the follow-up will arrive at a still-unspecified date.
It has long been rumored that the split would happen. Cast member have even explicitly address the possibility, and on numerous occasions. For many Twilighters, it was a foregone conclusion that "Breaking Dawn" would be split. And so the news should come as no surprise to anyone.
But wait! There's more! Read more...
