Pop songstress Miley Cyrus got her big break with the Disneyfied alter-ego Hannah Montana, star of the hit Disney Channel series bearing the same name. She's now been attached to star in "Wake," an adaptation of the the young adult horror novel by Lisa McCann. Cyrus will star as a young woman who is pulled into other people's dreams against her will. Paramount and MTV Films have optioned the rights to the full trilogy of books, with the first adaptation being scripted by "Disturbia" co-writer Christopher Landon. In August, "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart will head to Montreal to shoot an adaptation of the Jack Kerouac novel "On the Road," under the direction of Walter Salles. It's a challenging undertaking; the book, while an exceptional product of the Beat Generation, is a heavy read. Honoring it properly in film is going to be no easy task, but Stewart told MTV's Josh Horowitz during last weekend's "Eclipse" press junket that she is up for the challenge.

"I'm really nervous, like honestly and genuinely really nervous about it, but... not in a bad way," she explained. "People think nerves are a bad thing. I love them. They get you ready to do something big. I'm stoked." Read more...

MTV Multiplayer is the place to go for video game news, but I still wanted to share this with you "Tron" fans here. The yearly game industry trade, E3, is in full swing right now out in Los Angeles. Yesterday brought a new trailer for "Tron: Evolution," the game based on Disney's end-of-year 3-D extravaganza, "Tron Legacy." For this trailer, embedded below, what you get is a straight up CG cutscene. An exciting one too, and gorgeous to behold. I'll wager that you won't actually see any of it in the movie, but the trailer is nonetheless effective at giving you a feel for what's in store with "Legacy." It's also really freaking cool.

The seventh season of "Entourage" kicks off this Sunday, but star Jeremy Piven has a peek of what's to come for you in today's Daily TwitPic. Piven, who of course plays agent to the stars and colossal D-bag Ari Gold, poses here with rock star Lenny Kravitz, who is wearing a tallis.

Kravitz is actually half-Jewish, as Piven notes in his tweet, so the tallis is not so out of the ordinary. What I'm more curious about here is the context. Will Kravitz be having his Bar Mitzvah on this season of "Entourage"? We can only hope, right? All will be made clear soon enough. Check out the image after the jump. Read more...

As we learned yesterday, the first teaser trailer for "The Smurfs" arrives today. If your hopes are high, dial them back. There's no Gargamel. There's no NPH (except for his intro) or Jayma Mays. There aren't really any Smurfs even-- just a brief glimpse at the end. I suppose that's why it's called a teaser. Do you feel teased? Also... Tone Loc?

Vuvuzelas and Nintendo's 3DS are raking in the comments on Twitter right now, and as with most things, some people are fans and some are not. Stephen Colbert chose an anti-3DS stance last night in one of his posts, whereas Russell Brand happens to be a fan of those horn noises at the World Cup.

I think it's safe to say that most of Twitter-Wood's citizens are fans of "Entourage." I'm personally a fan of the great photography the show has been able to generate for the column here. Lenny Kravitz happens to be the star today, and hopefully by the time this goes live Autumn Reeser will have decided on what to wear for the show's Season 7 premiere.

These hot issues and more appear in Twitter-Wood for June 16, 2010. Read more...

One of my favorite books of 2009 was "The Strain." The result of a collaboration between Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan, "The Strain" offered a decidedly fresh (and exceedingly creepy) take on the vampire myth. Framing vampirism as a biological condition akin to a virus, the book is part vampire story, part outbreak novel and all satisfying. New York City is consumed by this disease as we follow a few colorful character in their struggle against the rising storm.

The second book, "The Fall," is due for release on September 21. I tore through it over the weekend and it's great, delivering very well on the narrative promises made in the first book. We learn more about some key characters, meet a range of new ones and are provided a deeper glimpse into the backstory leading to the first book's cataclysmic event. The hardest thing is turning to that last page and realizing we're more than a year away from the final chapter in this saga. Read more...

More than fine even. "Everyone should do it," she said (with a straight face no less) in an interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz at the "Jonah Hex" press junket. "You too. I think you should," she said to Josh, adding that shaving his "'Jaws' beard" would be a necessary part of that process. No one likes a bearded prostitute, apparently.

The Muppets are coming, the Muppets are coming! For awhile now it's been known that a new Muppet movie is going into production, with a script from Nick Stoller and Jason Segel and "Flight of the Conchords" co-creator James Bobin directing. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke with Stoller during the press tour for "Get Him to the Greek" and he got an update on where things are at with Jim Henson's beloved puppet troupe.

"It's PG," Stoller confirmed, before oddly jumping to a more obscure fact about the film. "There is no Muppet penis." Ummmmmmmmmmmm... neat? Read more...

There's really no such thing anymore as "poor CG," especially not for features coming from a major studio. Even allowing for that ever-rising bar for quality in computer animated flicks, this new trailer for "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole" will still grab your attention. Eye candy defined. The story follows a young owl named Soren who sets out on a journey to put an end to a great injustice in his world. It is actually an adaptation of the first three volumes in a 15 book series by author Kathryn Lasky. As little as I know about the series, the trailer has me pretty primed for the September 24 release.
