I saw "Toy Story 3" earlier this week, and left after the credits with newly confirmed convictions about the series. For me, the move from "Toy Story" to "Toy Story 2" has always felt like an upgrade. Yes, part of it is the delightfully overt "Star Wars" reference that occurs late in the second movie. Even putting that aside though, overall I've always felt that the sequel was superior to the first film's already-exceptional experience.

"Toy Story 3" does an unusual thing for a trilogy: it ups the ante yet again. The first two movies are, at varying times, hilarious and touching and sweet and, yes, a bit unsettling (I'm looking at you, cobbled-together mutant toy-things from the original movie). This final chapter in the trilogy is all of that, even the unsettling part. And then it ends, with a one-two gut punch that is roughly on par with the tear-jerking opening minutes of Pixar's 2009 masterpiece, "Up." Read more...

"The Hangover" and "The A-Team" star Bradley Cooper is attached to star in a baseball dramedy from "Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps" and the upcoming "Escape From New York" remake writer Allan Loeb. Cooper will play an injured major leaguer who is sent back to the minors; the only place he can find housing in his new digs is a seniors nursing home. There he meets an "old baseball guru" who helps him reclaim his major league status. For more on this story, check out the full report from The Hollywood Reporter.

The latest trailers for "Eclipse" and "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World" have given several faces in Twitter-Wood something to post about this week. Apparently even those who were on set for the newest "Twilight" film can still be made to scream when they see their work in motion.

David Slade and James Urbaniak, meanwhile, have been keeping tabs on the new "Smurfs" film, and they both seem to have some concerns. You can find out what those are after the jump alongside reactions from the "Entourage" Season 7 premiere and a Lakers jersey blessing sighting.

It's all in Twitter-Wood for June 17, 2010. Read more...

The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando officially opens to the public tomorrow. To celebrate the momentous occasion, a bunch of the series' biggest stars traveled to Florida where they've been smiling for the cameras, doing interviews and indulging in the theme park's rides and treats before the average Joes and Janes of the world descend starting tomorrow morning. Where celebrities go, so do red carpets. Last night was no different, and we've got a ton of pictures to prove it. You can click the image below to check out our full gallery.

Tom Tykwer proved what a great director he is with "Run Lola Run," but we don't see nearly enough of him. That's going to change if this dream team of actors assembles for his adaptation of David Mitchell's novel "Cloud Atlas," which will be produced by the Wachowskis. Tom Hanks, Halle Berry, James McAvoy, Ian McKellen and Natalie Portman have all been offered parts, according to Production Weekly (via The Playlist). I've not read the novel, but it features six main characters and "spans thousands of years and several genres." Color me intrigued. I think I know which book I'll be reading next. I have one question though: who will play main character #6?

The whole "Harry Potter" crew is down in Florida right now to celebrate the opening of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park attraction at Universal Orlando. MTV is down there too, to capture it all. We spoke with Rupert Grint at the big grand opening party last night, and he got to talking about the last day of shooting on "Deathly Hallows" and how it felt for him closing out such a life-changing decade.

"It was quite a sad day. I didn't know quite how it would affect me," he said. "They played this video which kind of brought it all back really. I just kind of realized how long we'd actually spent [at Leavesden Studios] and with all those people. It was quite emotional." Read more...

"Guns, Girls & Gambling" is perhaps the best new movie titled I've seen this year. It certainly sells its product well. The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog reports that Dane Cook, Gary Oldman and Christian Slater will star in the awesomely titled upcoming flick from Freefall Films, with production to kick off on July 6. Rather than paraphrase the THR synopsis, I'm just going to give it to you here, word for word:

"The story throws Elvis impersonators, Indians, modern cowboys, a 6-foot-tall blond assassin, a frat boy, a corrupt sheriff and a prostitute into a chase for a priceless American Indian artifact stolen during a poker game at an Indian casino."

See what I mean? I'm not generally so big on Cook, but I'll get past that in the face of Elvis impersonators and Oldman/Slater together.

Chances are that you know this if you're a "Harry Potter" fan, but The Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park attraction at Universal Orlando opens tomorrow. From the faithfully rebuilt replica of Hogwarts to the obscure cuisines found in Hogsmeade to the exciting rides and attractions, it's a smorgasbord of fun for fans of The Boy Who Lived and the magical world he lives in. MTV is down in Orlando covering the grand opening, and we asked Harry himself, Daniel Radcliffe, how he feels about seeing this fictional world that he's been such an integral part of brought into the real world.

"It's not even odd," he said. "I suppose there was an element of it being odd this morning when I was walking around, and there were a couple of odd moments when I appear on screen in front of myself shouting 'Follow me!' But it's amazing. It's actually fantastic. I couldn't be more pleased." Read more...

Though the MTV Newsroom remains vuvuzela-less, we have become helpless devotees of the World Cup. Every TV is set to ESPN, and you can hear "ooohs" and "ohhhs" punctuate the tap-tap-tap of keyboards at every blown scoring opportunity and brilliant goal.

And, pop culture obsessives that we are, the talk of this killer soccer tournament inevitably crosses over into fictional territory, as we look for connections between the Cup and our favorite movies. Less than a week into the South African competition, we've selected our favorite big screen soccer stars and suggested cinematic musical instruments to replace the dreaded delightful vuvuzela.

Today, as the first round pushes on and we take in matches between Greece and Nigeria, and France and Mexico, we turn our attention to our favorite sports tournaments in movie history. Read more...
