A few missteps aside, Tim Burton turned in a solidly entertaining film with his live-action adaptation -- more a sequel, really -- of "Alice in Wonderland." This is thanks in large part to the performance turned in by Mia Wasikowska, who led the cast as Alice. The movie ends in an interesting place as compared to many other blockbusters: while there certainly could be a sequel, the conclusion could also just as easily serve as an end point. For Wasikowska, it is just that... for her character at any rate.
"I don't think [a sequel is] really necessary," she told MTV's Josh Horowitz in an interview at the press junket for "The Kidd Are All Right," the Lisa Cholodenko-directed comedy that opens next week. "I think it was left in a really good place. I think it's sort of good where it is." While she may not necessarily be willing to put on the blue and white dress again, Wasikowska admits that she continues to feel the aftershocks of taking on such a high-profile role in her professional life.
"It's definitely a lot more exposure," she said. "And it's really... maybe I have a few more opportunities now with the films that I do. Otherwise everything is very much the same."
One such potential opportunity is filmmaker David Fincher's upcoming adaptation of the popular Stieg Larsson novel, "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo." The cast for that project has yet to take shape, but Wasikowska's is one of several names that have been tossed around for the lead role Lisbeth Salander.
"I'm a big fan of the books and that's kind of as far as it goes right now," Wasikowska said of the possibility that the role could belong to her. She admits that she hasn't spoken with Fincher at all, but she loves the books. "It's a great character."
