Sure, we've been talking about it all day. But the new trailer for "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" unfolds on such an epic scale, that it's worth talking about some more. This is, of course, the final part of the boy wizard series. And as you might expect, (spoiler alert?) it ends with a major showdown between Harry and his lifelong nemesis, the dark wizard Voldemort.
Of course, dramatic showdowns are a Hollywood staple. Whether enemies are crossing swords, guns, lightsabers or simply words, a good duel is often all that stands between a hero and whatever he's questing for. After the jump, find five of our very favorite film showdowns.
Luke Skywalker vs. Darth Vader
Light vs Dark? Good vs Evil? C'mon... as far as movie showdowns go, Luke Skywalker versus his dear old dad, the Dark Lord of the Sith, is a classic among the classics. It's easy to look at their final showdown in "Return of the Jedi" as the pinnacle, but for my money it doesn't get any better than their duel at the end of "Empire Strikes Back." It's perfectly staged, between the red/blue lighting, abundance of smoke/steam/fog effects, back-and-forth banter and, of course, the duel-ending reveal that Vader is in fact Luke's father.
Beatrix "The Bride" Kiddo vs. Bill
To be fair, "Kill Bill" director Quentin Tarantino has made a career out of aping the work of his heroes. So the Bride vs. Bill throwdown at the end of "Kill Bill Vol. 2" finds its inspiration in any number of actual classics. But it ends with the Five Point Palm Exploding Heart Technique. WIN.
Westley vs. Vizzini / Inigo Montoya vs. Count Rugen
"The Princess Bride" is overflowing with duels. Even picking just two for this one list entry proved a challenge. But these two are the highlights. Westley matches wits with Vizzini and walks away the winner, thanks to his immunity to iocaine powder. Inconceivable! Later, Inigo Montoya finally exacts vengeance on his father's murderer, Count Rugen. "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." With those 12 words, history was made.
Happy Gilmore vs. Bob Barker
"The price is wrong, b---h!" There's nothing like seeing an old man and a Saturday Night Live alum fight. Especially when said old man is the former host of "The Price is Right," and he emerges from the fight as the undisputed winner.
Mega Shark vs. Giant Octopus
You spoke with your clicks here, kids. The best showdown of last year was the Mega Shark vs. the Giant Octopus in... (wait for it)... "MEGA SHARK VS. GIANT OCTOPUS"!
