Talking to Brett Ratner is a wacky experience. A conversation with the director veers, minute to minute, across topics and insights and forceful opinions. Thoughts are dropped, others are picked up. Sentences morph into completely unrelated ones with nary a warning. It's a disorienting experience, but it's also pretty entertaining.
That same thing might be said about his films, by both his fans and his detractors. Now comes something utterly different. Ratner has re-cut a new Bollywood movie called, "Kites" (out May 21). Yes, that's as strange as it sounds. But the movie is a delightfully charming one. It stars Hrithik Roshan and Bárbara Mori (he a huge Indian star, she a huge Latin American one) as two foreigners living in Las Vegas. She's about to marry his girlfriend's brother, when Roshan and Mori fall in love. What follows from there is part fairy tale, part action flick, part road movie.
Ratner recently called up MTV News to talk about taking on what has been dubbed "Kites: The Remix." The director spoke about the challenges of re-cutting a movie for American audiences, the beauty of his stars and one particular thing about Roshan with which is completely obsessed. Read more...

If the existence of the "MacGruber" movie teaches me anything, it's you can turn absolutely any "Saturday Night Live" sketch—no matter how short and how much they always end with the title character (presumably) dying in a huge explosion—into a full-fledged film. It certainly isn't the first time a movie came out based on an "SNL" concept; previous outings include "Blue Brothers," "Wayne's World," "Superstar" "A Night at the Roxbury" and "The Ladies Man."
With "MacGruber" exploding his way into theaters everywhere today, I took a look at five other relatively recent "SNL" sketches that could work as feature films.
LIVE FROM MTV.COM IT'S FRIDAY AFTERNOON! ... Always wanted to say that... close enough. Read more...

"Saturday Night Live" spin-off "MacGruber" is in theaters today, a goofy send-up of the undeniably campy '80s action TV series "MacGyver." New Line apparently started developing a big screen return for the ever-resourceful secret agent (played originally by Richard Dean Anderson) back in March, and the news today is that they've hired a screenwriter: "Swing Vote" and "Bad Company" scribe Jason Richman. That's about the extent of what's revealed, though Dino De Laurentiis is executive producing. To check out the full story, head over to The Hollywood Reporter's Risky Business blog.

With the “Scream 4” production's July start date fast approaching, Wes Craven is getting down to business and trying to nab some hot young stars so the “Scream” alum can hand off the franchise to a new generation. As we reported earlier, Lake Bell is currently in negotiations to join the cast and Ashley Greene, Hayden Panettiere and Rory Culkin have all been offered key parts.
With Neve Campbell, David Arquette and Courteney Cox set to reprise their roles from the original three films, these new characters clearly must have a connection to one, if not all, of our old friends from Woodsboro. If the deals go through, the most direct of the bunch will be Greene’s character, Jill. Not only is she Sidney Prescott’s cousin, but she’ll also be assuming the role of the film’s leading lady. Panettiere’s role is Jill’s best friend, a major movie geek, and Culkin would play Jill’s love interest. The closest to sealing the deal is Bell, who will play a police officer Sidney knows from her high school days. Read more...

If we're being honest with ourselves, this is probably not the best time to start watching "Lost." The ship to the series' mysterious Island sailed looooooooong ago, which means you're in for a whole lot of confusion if you tune in Sunday night for the series finale. That said, you might still be curious to know what the show is all about. Star Michael Emerson is here to help. Over the past several weeks, we've been asking celebrities to explain what the show is for people who have never seen it before. Emerson's response is one of the best we've received. Check it out below.
We're celebrating the long-awaited conclusion of "Lost" all this week at MTV News! We'll be bringing you exclusive interviews, insightful commentary and, in true "Lost" fashion, maybe even a surprise or two. Head over to the MTV Movies Blog, where our "Lost" Awards continue all this week, and make sure to tune in on Sunday night for our series finale live blog!

With this week's surprising news that Megan Fox was ousted from "Transformers 3," the hunt is now on for a new female lead to star opposite Shia LaBeouf in next year's sequel. As you might expect, there's already a sizable list of names floating around, many of which are based on rumors and unnamed sources. We scanned through the list and did a photo treatment of what some of the potential new leading ladies might look like inserted into the "Transformers" universe.
I particularly like the one below, featuring dancer and country music singer Julianne Hough. Click the image to check out the rest of our flipbook gallery.

Earlier this week we learned that Ewan McGregor will star opposite Robert Duvall in "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." McGregor was on the red carpet at the 30th anniversary celebration for "Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" on Wednesday night, and MTV contributor Todd Gilchrist was there to ask about his feelings on "Quixote," a project which has been destined for -- and failed to reach -- big screens a number of times.
"I try not to think about the pressure and the scary side of what you're about to embark on, but just think of it as being a challenge," McGregor explained. "If ['The Man Who Killed Don Quixote'] comes about, which it may -- and I certainly hope it does, because I've wanted to work with [director Terry Gilliam] for a long time -- to play that part would be very, very exciting." After beating "a number of Hollywood's young elite actors for the coveted role," former "Spider-Man" star James Franco has been cast as the lead in the upcoming "Planet of the Apes" prequel, titled "Rise of the Apes." The story follows the development of the genetic process that gives apes human intelligence, and the war that follows. Franco will play one of the key scientists who unknowingly helps bring about the end of humanity. Sucks to be him, eh? For more on this story, check out the full report on MTV.com.

"Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back" turns 30 today. Just think: on May 20, 1980, only a handful of people in the world knew the Skywalker family lineage. With five simple words, Darth Vader set the record straight not just for young Luke but for all of the "Star Wars"-loving fans: "No, I am your father."
In honor of "Empire"'s birthday, I dug up this fairly awesome photo in which we see Vader holding an eight-year-old boy at an "Empire" promotional event in Scotland held a few months before the film's May release. The kid doesn't look too scared either; clearly he underestimates the power of the Dark Side.
