It seems that "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," which hits theaters this Friday, might be spurring some things along in Hollywood on the video game-to-film adaptations front. First there's "Hitman 2," which has been in development for a little while. Fox has taken the step of nailing down a director and a writer to put the thing together: relative newcomer Daniel Benmayor will sit at the helm while TV writer Daniel Casey takes the script.

In non-sequel news, Legendary Pictures now owns the rights to BioWare's excellent space-based RPG series, "Mass Effect" and they've hired Mark Protosevich ("I Am Legend," "The Cell") to develop a script. If ever there was a game whose story is perfectly suited to a film treatment, it's this one. There are "Star Wars" levels of depth in the universe BioWare created, and a proper movie treatment could turn out to be something really special.

Both reports come from The Hollywood Reporter's Heat Vision blog. For more on "Hitman 2," check out the full story here; for more on "Mass Effect," see the article here.

Let me be clear: I really enjoyed Tim Burton's take on "Alice in Wonderland." The story delivered a worthwhile continuation of Disney's original animated film while sticking to the twistedly whimsical spirit Lewis Carroll's classic book. A lot of folks felt the same way.

Then the movie ended. Like many, I was shaken by the... interesting creative choice made in the final minutes when Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter performs a CGI-assisted dance -- the Futterwacken -- to a techno beat. In the below clip from the Blu-ray/DVD's bonus features, out next week on June 1, Depp expresses some concerns of his own.

We've also got this exclusive Q&A with the superstar actor that Disney passed along. You can read more from Depp after the jump. Read More...

Jack Bauer is gone, but hopefully not for long. Although "24" is off the airwaves, Jack will come back through a big screen adaptation that producer Howard Gordon hopes to bring to theaters "sooner rather than later." Of course, there's that eternally pesky matter of the "now" to deal with. With his days on television behind him, what's a former counter-terrorist operative to do while he waits for his cinematic debut?

Luckily, the photoshop wizards here at MTV News have a few truly brilliant ideas for how Jack can bide his time before preventing terrorist threats in theaters. After the jump, our recommendations for how Jack should spend his vacation before the "24" movie! Read More...

Some days the Internet brings me things that I simply don't have the ability to process. This is one of those days.

You all know about "The Human Centipede," right? I'm guessing yes since so many of you have checked out our exclusive clip. The plot of the movie is pretty well-summarized in that four minute snippet, but I'll break it down for you right here: a mad scientist doctor dude (played by the awesomely named Dieter Laser) kidnaps three people with the intent of sewing them together, mouth-to-anus, to create a sort of human centipede. It's a revolting idea, and one that writer/director Tom Six researched with an actual surgeon. So yes, the posters touting the movie as "100% Medically Accurate" are, in fact, correct.

Some enterprising young soul took it upon him or herself to turn this horrific idea into a playful activity for all to enjoy. Enter "Human Centipede: The Game." If you've played the arcade classic "Centipede" then this will be familiar to you. Only here, the insect segments are replaced by people on their hands and knees, all of them connected mouth-to-anus. Cops replace the spiders trying to kill you and -- best of all -- you can shoot glasses of water laced with roofies to slow down the herd.

It's sick. It's twisted.

It's glorious. Play it here.

David Cross is an angry man, but he's funny so he gets a pass. He's actually really funny, and has been since long before many people came to know and love him as Tobias Funke on "Arrested Development." Fans of his stand-up have been waiting a long time for more; now, six years after the release of "It's Not Funny," Cross is back for more with "Bigger and Blackerer," which is out on DVD today. To celebrate, we've got an exclusive clip below for your viewing enjoyment. Soooooo... enjoy!

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is arguably the biggest video game adaptation yet to come out of Hollywood. Between an all-star cast (Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton), a rock-solid director (Mike Newell) and one of the biggest producers on the planet (Jerry Bruckheimer), it's got a great chance for success in a sub-genre that has, to this point, been largely populated with mediocre-to-terrible offerings.

To help us cover the run-up to Friday's release, David Hayer has kindly made time in his busy schedule to serve as the guest editor this week on MTV Movies Blog. While he isn't directly involved with "Persia," Hayter is a unique figure in the industry for his memorable gigs in both the video game and film industries. Before penning scripts for "X-Men," "X2: X-Men United" and "Watchmen," Hayter was perhaps best-known for providing the iconic voice of "Metal Gear Solid" series star Solid Snake. With such extensive experience in both mediums, Hayter is the ideal person to commentate as the release of "Prince" approaches.

So please, everyone, welcome Hayter to the blog. I'll be running the first post from our lengthy, far-ranging interview last week later today.

"I Am Number Four" is an intriguing project for a number of reasons. It's an adaptation of a a young adult novel co-written by James Frey, controversial author of "A Million Little Pieces." Michael Bay and Steven Spielberg are producing it. On top of all that, the still-growing cast includes Alex Pettyfer, Timothy Olyphant, Teresa Palmer and Kevin Durand. Now MTV has learned that one more has joined the cast: "Percy Jackson" star Jake Abel.

The story follows nine aliens who survive the destruction of their homeworld at the hands of a rival race. The group flees to Earth, where they proceed to blend in among the human populace. Trouble starts when the enemy pursues the fugitive aliens to their hiding place. Pettyfer stars as the titular Number Four, who poses as a high school student. Abel confirmed to MTV that he'll play one of Pettyfer's social rivals. Read More...

The real-time televised saga of Jack Bauer came to an end last night as Day 8 of the long-running action series "24" came to a close. If it ended on more of a whimper than Sunday evening's "Lost" finale, it's probably because Kiefer Sutherland's Bauer isn't quite done with the spy life. He's just going to be playing it out on a much larger screen.

Plans for a "24" movie have been percolating as far back as 2006, when series star Sutherland told MTV that a script was in development. More recently it was revealed that "State of Play" writer Billy Ray had been hired to develop a script. Now that the series is over, showrunner Howard Gordon is speaking publicly about what's coming next. Read More...

Well, that was tremendously unsatisfying.

In the end, President Allison Taylor doesn't sign the peace agreement with the Islamic Republic that she worked so hard -- and broke several laws -- to create. She's overwhelmed with guilt about the conspiracy she helped cover up against President Hassan. Dalia Hassan found out about the Russians' involvement, and that President Taylor subsequently knew about it. Furious, she had threatened to pull out of the agreement, but President Taylor threatened her with a nuclear strike if she exposed the truth.

After all the lies and former President Charles Logan's plans (he shoots himself, by the way, and for some reason the show didn't entirely kill him off, leaving him ripe for more Jack Bauer torture in a "24" movie), President Taylor can't go through with the treaty under these circumstances. She pulls out. Read More...

Hollywood had the "Lost" finale on their minds last night, and Damon Lindelof and Dominic Monaghan were no exceptions. Even Sarah Silverman, who knows what it's like to see a series end, got a list misty-eyed, judging from her reaction to the episode.

Elsewhere, Stephen Fry found a Tardis, Jackie Chan got smiley with his "Karate Kid" co-star and a couple of tweeters revealed what's been going on behind the scenes at "The Last Airbender." If you want to see some pictures and find out if you agree with Neil Patrick Harris about "Lost," you should probably click on past the jump and check out Twitter-Wood for May 24, 2010. Read More...
