I had the pleasure of chatting with Alan Goldsher last week, the author of upcoming zombie novel "Paul Is Undead: The British Zombie Invasion," which is out in stores on June 22. Presented as an oral history, the book charts the career of The Beatles in a world where zombies are (mostly) functioning members of society. Three members of the band are brain-eaters -- Ringo is a human ninja -- which, as you might expect, puts a slightly different spin on the arc of their careers together.
You might have heard the news a couple weeks back that "Paul Is Undead" was optioned for a film adaptation by Double Feature producers Stacey Sher and Michael Shamberg ("Pulp Fiction," "Erin Brockovitch"). Although the project is still in its formative stages, Goldsher was happy to delve into a few details about his hopes for the adaptation and what audiences can expect to see when the movie eventually hits theaters. "Kung Fu Panda" is, in my opinion, the best DreamWorks Animation release to date. It is no surprise then that I am eagerly anticipating the 2011 sequel, "Kung Fu Panda: The Kaboom of Doom." Moreso now following today's casting news. Jean-Claude Van Damme, Michelle Yeoh and Victor Garber are newcomers in a cast that already includes Gary Oldman and all of the returning players from the last movie. Oldman, added last week, is the movie's big bad. Van Damme and Garber will voice anthropomorphized martial artists Master Croc and Master Thundering Rhino. Yeoh will give voice to The Soothsayer. A goat. Excellent.

Perhaps it's a good thing that so much time has passed since the announcement of Jake Gyllenhaal's planned Joe Namath biopic. Gave us all a few more years to forget about the Hall of Fame New York Jets quarterback's infamous 2003 sideline interview in which he drunkenly professed his desire to smooch freaked-out ESPN reporter Suzy Kolber.
Oh, who are we kidding! No one's ever gonna forget that moment in sports journalism history. In that case, Gyllenhaal had better hurry up and shift his movie into production to help restore the name of Broadway Joe. The biopic was announced back in 2007, and the actor recently told MTV News that he's still fully committed to bringing the movie to the big screen.
"Yes, Joe Namath is something I've been involved in and developing and trying to make really, really right because you have to make it pretty badass if you're going to do it right," the actor said. "So we're trying to do that and it's taken a little while." Read more...

This week's Friday releases bring with them an odd coincidence. While the ladies go see New York City's fashionable foursome trek through the desert in "Sex and the City 2," dudes get a sand and sandals epic of their own in "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time." With two desert-centric movies like these hitting theaters, a Photoshop treatment was basically a necessity. Want to know what happens when Prince Dastan and Carrie Bradshaw cross paths under the blazing desert sun? Click the image below to see for yourself.

When MTV News caught up with 'Paranormal Activity' star Micah Sloat in March, the actor seemed to hint that both he and co-star Katie Featherston would return for the sequel to last year's record-breaking hit. "All I can tell you is I'm very excited for the project, it's really cool, it's gonna be really interesting and it's not gonna suck, which most horror sequels would," he said.
Not so fast, Mr. Sloat, because nothing seems to be settled at this point. Featherston herself is completely in the dark about "Paranormal Activity" plans and unsure if she'll be asked reprise her role as a young woman who becomes possessed by a demon. Read more...

"Zombieland" was one of the funniest comedies of last year, so it is with no small amount of excitement that I greet today's news of star Jesse Eisenberg re-teaming with director Ruben Fleischer for the comedy "30 Minutes or Less." Eisenberg joins a cast that already includes Aziz Ansari and Danny McBride. The story follows a high school history teacher (Ansari) and a pizza delivery guy (Eisenberg) who are forced into robbing a bank. McBride plays one of the thieves, who use a vest wired with bombs to compel their hostages to commit the crime. For more on "30 Minutes or Less," which starts shooting this summer, check out The Hollywood Reporter's full story.

One of the biggest questions about the coming adaptation of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" relates to what the epilogue will look like. For those who don't know -- SPOILER ALERT -- the book ends with a brief scene in which the main characters all meet at King's Cross station in later years as they're sending their own children off to Hogwarts.
MTV learned only this month that the main cast will put on some "old" makeup and play elder versions of their characters in that final scene, which hadn't been shot at the time. The shoot is apparently happening now, as some images have leaked out from the set showing us what Harry (Daniel Radcliffe) and Ginny (Bonnie Wright) look like as old people. There are many more images than the one you see below; click the pic to check out the full gallery on Oclumencia (via AICN).

Patton Oswalt didn't seem too amused by some lines in a Columbia University valedictorian's commencement speech today. He and James Urbaniak both took issue with some of speaker Brian Corman's words, which the comedian and "Big Fan" star is calling a case of plagiarism.
Less heated topics came up in tweeting as well. Tom Hanks continued his "Larry Crowne" production tweets, while Tinsel Korey had some bad dreams after the "Lost" finale and Olivia Wilde gave Alicia Silverstone some mad props for her Rice Krispies Treats. Find out what her recipe includes and where Jessica Alba is meeting up with Robert Rodriguez after the jump. It's all retweeted in Twitter-Wood for May 25, 2010. Read more...

Forgive the punny headline. The hour is late. The movie looks entertaining though! Ashton Kutcher stars as a married man who keeps a major secret from his wife (Katherine Heigl): he's actually a government assassin. In the below clip, which appears to be an early moment in the couple's courtship, Heigl's Jen Kornfeldt doesn't find it odd that Kutcher's Spencer Aimes uses a knife to remove her dress because she's so drunk. She'll figure it out later though, fear not. Enjoy the clip.

"Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is out this Friday. There's a history in Hollywood of video game adaptations, a history that extends back almost as far as the interactive medium itself. It's a frequently spotty history, with dark blemishes on titles as popular and well-known in the game world as "Super Mario Bros" and "Street Fighter." "Prince of Persia" has a shot to rise past it all; between the strong cast, accomplished director and mega-producer presiding over it all, we're talking about a serious summer tentpole that has the potential to turn around an entire sub-genre.
I spoke at length last week with David Hayter about the unique challenges facing filmmakers when they decide to bring a video game to the big screen. In addition to being an accomplished screenwriter ("X-Men," "X2: X-Men United") and voice actor (the "Metal Gear Solid" series), Hayter is also an avid gamer. That extensive cross-media experience gives him what you might call an evolved perspective on the realities of making game adaptation. Read more...
