The powers-that-be who preside over "Twilight," "Lost" and the MTV Movie Awards really ought to get together and coordinate better. There's far too much news today.

As the hours slide by, the "Eclipse" soundtrack grows. Two new artists have been revealed since our last post. Three, really, if you want to be a jerk about it. First up is a collaboration between Beck and Bat For Lashes, on "Let's Get Lost." MySpace doesn't say it, but my guess is that this is a cover of the Elliott Smith song from the album "A Basement On The Hill." Beck is a noted fan of Smith's; he participated in a benefit held in the singer/songwriter's honor following his untimely death at the age of 34 in 2003. Also confirmed for the soundtrack is New York City-based indie rock outfit Vampire Weekend, on the song "Jonathan Low." Check out music from all of these artists after the jump. Read More...

If there's one thing the world needs more of, it's movies adapted from board games. That's what DreamWorks thinks anyway. The studio recently acquired the rights to "Monsterpocalypse," one of those collectible miniature games that's become so popular. And the word is that they'd like "Alice in Wonderland" director Tim Burton to be the guy who turns it into a movie. I can't say he's a bad choice; the game has players battling monsters as they run free in a city. I just don't know if another board game movie is really necessary, not with "Battleship," "Monopoly" and "Ouija" all on the way. What do you think? Check out the full story at Deadline.

Today the soundtrack to "Eclipse," in theaters on June 30, is being revealed to one and all. It's a slow rollout though, with one artist/song being revealed each hour on MySpace, starting at 11am EST.

Since it's currently 11:25am, the first announcement is already out there: the band is Metric, the song, "Eclipse (All Yours)." They're a Canadian indie rock outfit and it appears that they're written this song specifically for the movie. You can get a feel for their sound in the video below.

LostOn "Lost," Jacob first introduced the metaphor of the Island as a cork in a bottle of wine to a confused Richard Alpert in "Ab Aeterno." But it was last night's episode, "Across the Sea," that best represents the wine itself — like a bottle of wine, "Across the Sea" will live and die by how well it ages.

There's no doubt that the episode stands out as one of the most polarizing hours in the entirety of "Lost," with many fans divided on how to react to what they witnessed — was this a worthy payoff or an enormous letdown?

After several viewings of the episode, I remain greatly disappointed by "Across the Sea." It just did not work for me, and after the jump, I'll tell you some of the reasons why. Read More...

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

Last night on "American Idol," finalist Crystal Bowersox sang her heart out on a cover of Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright." I'll admit that I don't follow the show very closely, but when I heard the news of what song Bowersox chose to sing, my response was immediate. "She wins. She's the new American Idol." For you see, "I'm Alright" is the song that opens one of the greatest sports comedies in the long history of movies: "Caddyshack." Read More...

LostEpisode Title: "Across the Sea"

Written By: Damon Lindelof & Carlton Cuse

Story: Once upon a time, two boys lived on an island. They were raised by a woman who was not their mother, and they were raised to believe that people are bad. But when one of these boys learned the truth that he's not from the island — that he's meant to live across the sea — he defected from his brother and his "mother," setting into motion a chain of events that continues to be felt to this very day. Last week, Jon Favreau addressed "The Wilhelm Scream" in "Iron Man 2," and this week he's been getting inquiries about the color of Sam Rockwell's hands in the film. After reading Twitter today, I think I'm going to have to go back and decide how orange they are for myself.

In other tweets, much of Twitter-Wood is getting set for the Cannes Film Festival this week. Brett Ratner and Paris Hilton both had some prep work to do today, and I'm sure we'll be seeing plenty of other related posts over the next couple of weeks. You can find out what they've got planned after the jump. There, you'll find Gary Sinise, Jim Carrey and Frankie Muniz's thoughts on Lady Gaga, as they all appear in Twitter-Wood for May 11, 2010. Craig Gillespie’s “Fright Night” remake has found its vampire: Colin Farrell. As reported by THR, he’ll go up against Anton Yelchin as Charlie Brewster in the remake of Tom Holland’s 1985 horror classic. Also joining the fun is Toni Collette, who is on board to play Charlie’s mother, one of many who just can’t resist her bloodsucking neighbor’s charm. Gillespie’s version will stick to the basics of the original, focusing on young Charlie's supicions about his neighbor Jerry, whom he believes to be a vampire. He confides in his mother as well as his best friend, Evil Ed and girlfriend, Amy, but no one believes his accusations.

With vampires continuing to be the hot thing in Hollywood, “Fright Night” should be a welcome edition to a genre that’s on the verge of growing tiresome. We’re not in for another dose of sparkling beasts or even creatures of the night with an affinity for gore. In fact, “Fright Night” is just the opposite; it’s an amalgamation of horror, suspense, camp and the teen factor, a la John Hughes, that feels remarkably real.

Of course, good source material doesn’t guarantee a well-made film, even with such a notable cast attached. Luckily there are tons of hits and misses in the world of horror reboots that Gillespie can consider when assembling the pieces of his re-creation. Check out this list of winners and losers to see where they went right and where they went wrong. Read More...

The Internet's been abuzz today over the revelation that a poster exists for upcoming video game adaptation "Kane & Lynch" on Nu Image's website. It's a slick poster, very simple and stylized. You only see the two stars in silhouette, but Bruce Willis' and Jamie Foxx's names are both listed. We haven't heard a whole lot about the movie yet, but the poster confirms that it really is happening. Which is pretty damn cool.

The first game was... problematic... but the idea was right and the story was actually more well-developed than is typical for a video game. If the gameplay had been stronger, it could've been a real hit. Fortunately for the movie, gameplay isn't an issue at all. Presuming they work with the story laid out in the first game, "Kane & Lynch" could be a fun 2011 action romp, especially with Willis and Foxx headlining it. Hit the jump for a full-size version of the poster. Read More...

The news broke very recently that "Splice" director Vincenzo Natali is all set to direct an adaptation of William Gibson's highly influential sci-fi novel "Neuromancer." MTV's Brian Jacks spoke to him earlier this week and learned that while the process is close to a done deal, Natali isn't fully set yet. What's clear is that he is a fan and, if anyone can do the story justice, it's him.

"'Neuromancer'-- it's at such an early stage that I'm not 100% attached to it," Natali revealed. "I think it's probably the most influential science fiction novel of the past 25 years. Various people have attempted to do it in the past and it hasn't worked out, I think in part because the book was so in advance of its time." Read More...
