Show of hands: who is surprised by this news?
I can get away with asking a question like that here on the Internet because I already know the answer. None of you are raising your hands. Water will continue to be wet, the sky will still be blue on a clear day and "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" will be in 3-D. More importantly, it will be shot in 3-D. Like "Avatar," not "Clash of the Titans," which was converted to 3-D in post. For more details, check out the full report on MTV.com.

Shortly before the Academy Awards show in March, "The Hurt Locker" was in the news because of a mass e-mail sent by producer Nicolas Chartier to his Hollywood friends in which he urged them to vote for his indie instead of "a $500M film," a clear reference to "Avatar" and a clear breach of Oscar campaigning rules. Chartier was censured and ultimately banned from attending the ceremony for his questionable decision.
Now the Voltage Pictures producer is back in the news. Last week, "The Hurt Locker" appeared in the news when Voltage announced plans to file lawsuits against "tens of thousands of BitTorrent users" for illegally downloading the Oscar-winning film. While that is certainly one approach, there's an argument -- and a valid one, I think -- that the only way to effectively curb piracy is to root it out at the source. One person in particular, a BoingBoing.net reader, sent off a polite e-mail to Voltage president Chartier arguing that exact point. Those familiar with his previous outburst shouldn't be surprised by the response. Read more...

What if you woke up one morning well into your teenage years, picked up a carton of milk to pour yourself a drink and saw your own photo printed there, beneath the words MISSING PERSON. Replace the milk carton -- so 1990s -- with a website and you've got the basic premise of "Abduction," which stars "Twilight" lead Taylor Lautner as the grown-up missing person. Today brings the news that "Spider-Man 2" star Alfred Molina has joined the cast, as a CIA agent working the case. For more details, check out the full report on Deadline.

A few months ago I did a foolish thing and showed off my creepily spot on Jar Jar Binks impression for Ewan McGregor. I'm pretty sure in that one moment I reminded him why taking the "Star Wars" films is not all ewok dances and Chewbacca hugs.
I'm not exactly ready for a Vegas show but I do have one or two other strange voices in my vocal range. So when I sat down with "MacGruber" star Val Kilmer the other day I knew it was now or never. Exit Josh Horowitz. Enter Willow Ufgood. Would Val strike me? Embrace me? Proclaim that he is still the greatest swordsman who ever lived? Watch and see.

Episode Title: "What They Died For"
Written By: Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz & Elizabeth Sarnoff
Story: Jack, Kate, Sawyer and Hurley have no time to mourn the deaths of their friends as they begin their pursuit of Desmond Hume, the man that Sayid identified as a threat to Smocke. Elsewhere on the Island, Ben, Richard and Miles head to the Barracks to find C4, but they find something — and someone — else.
In the Sideways Universe, Desmond continues putting the pieces together as a confrontation with Ben inspires Locke to reconsider Jack's proposal for spinal surgery. But it's Desmond's encounter with Sayid and Kate that has the most intriguing implications for the future of "Lost." Read more...

With all the talk of cancelled TV shows like "The Sarah Silverman Program" and "Law and Order" in Twitter-Wood lately, it's refreshing to see talk about someone's show getting picked up. Today, the big winner happened to be Jaime King. She got the Twitter equivalent of a high five from James Gunn about "My Generation," which ABC picked up.
Some "Twilight" actresses logged in as well in the last 24 hours. It turns out that Rachelle Lefevre loves "Glee," but she doesn't think she can carry a tune. Nevertheless, she laid out how she thinks the "Glee" producers can work around that. Scope out her proposal after the jump along with Kyle Newman's micro-review of "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," Michael Ian Black's affection for oil and Simon Pegg's harsh words for Facebook. It's all been logged publicly in Twitter-Wood for May 18, 2010. Read more...

Most fans will agree that Terry Gilliam has had an off bunch of years, really since the exceptional 1998 adaptation of Hunter S. Thompson's book, "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas." Of course, until last year's undeniably solid "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" it had only been two movies. It was the failed "Don Quixote" project I think, the one that was recounted in the documentary "Lost in La Mancha."
Gilliam is gearing up for another crack at it now, with "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." It's been known for some time that Robert Duvall would star as the delusional Spaniard. Now his sidekick has been cast, a modern day man thrown into the past and caught up in Quixote's adventures: Ewan McGregor. Gilliam confirmed the casting to Empire at Cannes; you can check out a video of the interview there.

Most "Lost" fans know by now that tonight's penultimate episode in the series was screened during an event held at UCLA last week. What you might not have heard was ABC Studios executive Barry Jossen had the privilege of reading a letter addressed to series creators Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof from none other than George Lucas, the man responsible for bringing "Star Wars" into the world.
The note is basically Lucas congratulating the "Lost" creators on bringing the show home after six question-filled, often fan-dividing seasons. As the architect of all things "Star Wars," from the classic original films through the questionable Special Edition touch-ups and on into the high Midichlorian counts of the Prequel Trilogy, Lucas knows a thing or two about fans who aren't always supportive, giving his brief note an added layer of amusing subtext. Read for yourself after the jump. Read more...

One of the big movies I was pining to see at Sundance while my colleagues tromped around in Park City was "Holy Rollers." The based-on-truth drama stars Jesse Eisenberg as a Hasidic Jew who is recruited into the world of drug smuggling when a neighbor enlists him as an ecstasy mule. Not that you get a sense of what is to come in the below clip from the movie, which opens in New York and Los Angeles this weekend. Instead you get a sense of what would drive Eisenberg's character to such a dangerous life. Crushing tedium
