The final season of "Lost" has come under some controversy for the introduction of the flash-sideways narrative device. Whereas previous seasons have flashed backwards and forwards in time, this season switches between the main Island plot and a sideways universe where Oceanic Flight 815 never crashed and landed safely in Los Angeles.
Although the sideways world has proven divisive amongst fans, there's no arguing that it's prompted some serious spinoff potential for when "Lost" ends. After the jump, check out five sideways stories we would love to see continued in their own spinoff television shows!
"Sawyer, P.I."
A police procedural drama starring Josh Holloway as Detective James "Sawyer" Ford, a smart-mouthed Los Angeles police officer who joined the force to avoid winding up on the wrong side of the law. But Ford has a dark secret from his past — a secret that he's obsessively trying to resolve, and a resolution that could ultimately put him behind bars. Co-starring Ken Leung as Detective Miles Straume, Ford's ghost-whispering partner.
"The Other Teachers"
A light-hearted public school drama starring Terry O'Quinn as John Locke, a paraplegic substitute teacher enrolled in the education system because he can't do anything else — but he's sick of being told what he can and can't do. Mr. Locke is joined by his colleagues Dr. Ben Linus (Michael Emerson), a rule-adhering history teacher, and Dr. Leslie Arzt (Daniel Roebuck), a quirky science teacher.
"So You Think You Know Your Constant"
A romance-focused game show hosted by Desmond Hume (Henry Ian Cusick), a debonair matchmaker without a worry in the world. Each week, Desmond takes a contestant through a series of trials to figure out who their true love really is. If contestants can't figure this out on their own, Desmond beats them within inches of their life until they see the truth and can identify their constants.
"Shepharding The Flock"
A family sitcom ala "Full House" starring Matthew Fox as Jack Shephard, a spinal surgeon who has just reconnected with his son and has just welcomed his secret and very pregnant half-sister Claire (Emilie de Ravin) into his home. Jack has to juggle work with his personal life all while dealing with his nagging ex-wife (unseen, always through the phone), but he receives guidance in the form of his dead father's ghost.
"The Kate Escape"
A crime thriller starring Evangeline Lilly as Kate Austen, a woman on the run from the law for killing her father — except she repeatedly insists that she didn't kill her father. Week in and week out, she finds herself in the crosshairs of the ruthless Edward Mars (Fredric Lehne), a U.S. Marshal obsessed with bringing Kate to justice. Eventual crossover potential with "Sawyer, P.I.," as Kate and Ford once shared a flirtatious encounter.
