This is neat. A taste of the future... TODAY! Next week's remake of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" looks pretty terrifying, a rare case in which a horror remake looks like it might rival the original. And considering how fantastic the original "Elm Street" is, that's saying something. To promote the movie, New Line has released a Freddy Krueger motion poster, which you can take a peek at in the video below. It's probably more impressive to see on the wall of a movie theater, but you get the idea. Just make sure to turn the volume down if the sound of nails on a chalkboard gets to you.

Max Brooks, the author of "World War Z," told us back in October that a script for the movie adaptation -- originally written by J. Michael Straczynski and currently getting a rewrite from Matthew Michael Carnahan -- was a few weeks away. MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall spoke with Brooks at C2E2 last week and asked him for an update. The short version? A script is still coming, still close.

"As far as I know, the whole world, from you to me to the fans here [at C2E2] to guys sitting in caves in Afghanistan, are all waiting for Matt Carnahan to finish his latest draft," he said. "That should happen within a few weeks, that's what I'm hearing." Read more...

"Men in Black" hit theaters in 1997 and it was an immediate hit. A sequel followed five years later; it was quite on the level of success as its predecessor, but it was still an undeniable hit. Now "Men in Black 3" is finally building momentum, and the news today from director Barry Sonnenfeld is that it will capitalize on the growing 3-D trend. Also confirmed is the return of stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones. What alien menace will they face this time? Will Agents J and K finally leave Earth on a mission? What would you like to see? For more on this story, check out the full report at MTV Splash Page.

As Dramarama once sang: “Everybody knows today is Earth Day, Merry Christmas, happy birthday to whoever’s being born.” And one major birth from the past year belonged to proud papa Jim Cameron, who gave the masses “Avatar,” arguably the most powerful environmental message ever unleashed upon our planet. Although it is sugar-coated in plenty of action, adventure and explosions, there is an undeniable "save Mother Earth" message throughout, and one that has already been seen by hundreds of millions of people. Not even a mid-'90s alternative rock band had that kind of influence -– sorry, John Easdale.

If you haven’t been to Pandora yet, today your second chance arrives in the form of shiny new home-viewing discs, and it certainly isn’t a coincidence that Cameron’s film is being unleashed on Earth Day. With that in mind, here’s a list of 5 Earth Day Lessons You Can Learn From ‘Avatar’: Read more...

Last night, "South Park" episode "201" -- literally the 201st episode of the series, following last week's appropriately titled cliffhanger "200" -- brought season 14 to a close. To celebrate the milestone, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone cooked up a very special two-part story. Instead of looking back with a retrospective clip show, the crass cultural commentators told an all-new tale incorporating many of the series' most popular themes and characters through the years.

It all started last week, when a comment made to Tom Cruise by Stan was taken the wrong way. Joining with other celebrities who have been mocked by residents of South Park, CO in the past, Cruise filed a class action lawsuit. It turned out that this was just a ploy however; what the celebrities really wanted was the prophet Muhammad, whose "goo" they intend to extract and use to shield themselves from future verbal assaults. Meanwhile, Cartman is shocked when he learns that his father actually may be a real person, not his hermaphroditic mother. Who though? That's where "201" opens. SPOILERS AHEAD Read more...

Neil Gaiman's readers know that he's a smart guy. He proved himself once more today, however, by securing plane tickets to the U.K. through two different routes, just in case the volcano ash becomes an issue. The recent eruption in Iceland has been a pain for main a Twitter-Wood citizen over the last week, and I think volcanoes may get overlooked by a lot of them during Earth Day commemorations tomorrow. Then again, some tweeters like Brian Lynch don't seem too enthusiastic about Earth Day anyway.

In other posts, there are photos all over the place today with Amy Smart getting a shot with Rachelle LeFevre on her birthday, Tom Hanks getting setting for his new film "Larry Crowne" and Emmy Rossum hanging out with some wild animals. Check it all out below along with pics of David Letterman and a former member of the Red Hot Chili Peppers member John Frusciante in Twitter-Wood for April 21st, 2010. Read more...

Earlier we reported that Sam Mendes or Adam Shankman may direct Robert Downey Jr. in a sort of prequel to "The Wizard of Oz" called "Oz, the Great and Powerful." The Joe Roth-produced, Mitchell Kapner-scripted origin film detailing the backstory of the titular Wizard resides at Disney.

Unlike a lot of recent prequels, "Oz" won't be dealing with the origin of a villain in an attempt to explain or humanize the character (see the "Star Wars" prequels, "The Scorpion King," and "Hannibal Rising" for examples). For one, the Wizard comes from meager beginnings, a former resident of Kansas just like Dorothy Gale. What's more, he's not exactly a villainous figure.

What he is is a potentially compelling story for the big screen. Fans would like to see where the Wizard comes from, in the same way they'd like to see the origin tales for these other well-known franchises. Read more...

"Resident Evil: Afterlife" director Paul WS Anderson is taking a break from his latest feature-length treatment of the Umbrella Corporation's legacy to address crowds as a keynote speaker at the first annual 3D Gaming Summit. Anderson has a great background in both games and film.

"I've been involved in both [mediums] for a long time and I definitely feel the future for me is to become in some way a kind of hybrid game and feature filmmaker," he told MTV in a recent interview. The growing popularity of the 3-D format also contributes to this interconnectedness, and Anderson is completely on board. "I'm a 3-D convert," he said, confirming that he has no intention of not working with the format moving forward. "All 3-D, every day of the week. I'm not taking my glasses off."

These ideas -- 3-D, bridging the gap between games and film -- segue nicely into "Buck Rogers," Anderson's primary focus after "Resident Evil" wraps and the first project for which he'll wholly embrace this new way of thinking. Read more...
