Over the weekend I was fortunate enough to catch a couple of Tribeca Film Festival screenings. I didn't attend as press and so have no "official" reviews to file, but this blog grows out of the experiences of its contributors, and my two screenings were definitely an experience.
On Saturday afternoon I checked out "Beware the Gonzo," from "The Basketball Diaries" scribe Bryan Goluboff. In addition to penning the script, Goluboff also makes his directorial debut with "Gonzo." He assembled a talented cast of young actors for the film, including Jesse McCartney, Zoe Kravitz (yes, the daughter of Lenny) and Ezra Miller, who was great in "City Island" and is great once again in "Gonzo" as a young Hunter S. Thompson wannabe. That's not even mentioning an adult cast that includes Campbell Scott, Amy Sedaris, James Urbaniak and Judah Friedlander. Read more...

To be fair, "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" is more of a spring release than summer. It's all semantics though. The summer blockbuster movie season officially starts next week on May 7 with the release of "Iron Man 2," and "Persia" follows shortly afterwards on May 28.
I hope you've all seen our excellent LEGO trailer for "Prince of Persia," which premiered this morning on MTV Movies Blog. I'm here to fill you readers in with a little bit of background on the flick, so you have an idea of what to expect when the lights dim on May 28. Hit the jump for the first in a full week of summer movie previews. Read more...

Judging by the traffic, you readers are big fans of Josh Wigler's great work on this blog as the architect of our weekly "Lost" recaps. Well apparently the good folks at ABC are also big fans of Josh's insane theories. Last week, Josh was asked to provide the network's expert commentary for the latest episode, "The Last Recruit." You've read his recap; now you can watch this episode with Josh's running commentary playing throughout. Check it out over at ABC.com.

There's nothing final about "The Final Destination," the fourth and allegedly last installment in the gruesome horror franchise about people who escape grisly death only to meet it head on — quite literally in some cases — further down the road. Eric Heisserer has been hired to pen the screenplay for a fifth "Final Destination" film to be shot in 3-D, meaning that there are plenty of new gruesome fatalities coming to theaters everywhere in the not-too-distant future.
But between falling glass plates crushing innocent bystanders to tanning beds incinerating a pair of beauty-obsessed teenagers, how much more inventive can this death-dealing franchise get? Coming from Heisserer, who wrote the "Nightmare on Elm Street" remake and the forthcoming "The Thing" prequel, I think it's safe to say that death still has a few tricks up its sleeves.
After the jump, check out some of the ways we think death could rear its head in "Final Destination 5." Read more...

Last Friday, "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" had the most exciting reveal yet in the life of the series: Boba Fett. Between last week's "Death Trap" and this week's two-parter, fans are finally going to learn just how a young boy, angry over the loss of his father at the hands of a Jedi, became the most fearsome bounty hunter in the galaxy. In the exclusive clip below, you can see him piloting his iconic ship, Slave I, with fellow hunters Bossk and Aurra Sing serving as crew. Their target? R2-D2. Looks exciting... I'm counting the hours until Friday.

The latest (and apparently final) trailer for "Eclipse" hit the Internet last Friday, compliments of Oprah Winfrey. I delivered it for you on the blog over the weekend, and now I'm back with a collection of high-res images for you to browse through. Want a closer look at our first glimpse of Riley? There are a few things I hope are written about me when I pass on. One of those -- the naming of my child Wilford Brimley Cocoon Jacks -- has yet to happen, but number two on the list is ready to be crossed from my bucket list. Over the past month, my colleague Matt Harper and I have been diligently re-creating the "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" movie trailer using nothing but Legos. It's been a strange trip since I first laid eyes on a two-inch Ben Kingsley Lego figure at Toy Fair earlier this year, and I immediately knew it was my destiny to animate him.
I think it turned out pretty well, nearly two minutes of stop-motion goodness. So watch below as we bring you pint-sized versions of Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton and Alfred Molina rocking out summer blockbuster-style. And if you enjoy, please retweet it, link it, and generally pass it around. You'll validate my life's work.

Stephen Hawking is buzzing across the Internet this morning because of a theory he puts forth in the new, aliens-focused episode of The Discovery Channel's series, "Into the Universe." Basically, he says that aliens are definitely out there somewhere, but attempting to contact them is "too risky." He posits the high likelihood that any extraterrestrials listening are potential conquerors.
Personally, I think Hawking's been watching too much "Independence Day." He's got a point: at least some aliens tuning in to Earth's radio chatter probably are on the lookout for their next potential slave race. But c'mon... let's not forget about the friendly ones. Better to put the word out and draw in a Superman or two than sit and wait for our inevitable subjugation as a slave race. After the jump, find an odd assortment of potential protectors pulled from the history of television and film. Read more...

Really... can you blame them? In "Predators," which hits theaters on July 9, the titular aliens abduct a group of human badasses and strand them on a remote world/hunting preserve. There, the humans become the prey... and they're having a tough time of it, as we can see in the exclusive image below. The worried faces visible in the pic are Royce (Adrien Brody), an ex-U.S. military man, Isabelle (Alice Braga), a Brazilian black ops sniper and Stans (Walter Goggins), a death row inmate.

1. "How To Train Your Dragon" ($15 million)
2. "The Back-Up Plan" ($12.3 million)
3. "Date Night" ($10.6 million)
4. "The Losers" ($9.6 million)
5. "Kick-Ass" ($9.5 million)
Last weekend, "How To Train Your Dragon" kicked ass and nearly took the box office crown from director Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-Ass." This weekend, "Dragon" followed through on its comeback potential by stealing first place away from both "The Back-Up Plan" and "The Losers." Read more...
