"The Last Airbender" gained at least one new actor in its final days of re-shoots, according to the tweets of Aasif Mandvi. He didn't indicate whether or not the last-minute casting was for a major part, but it sounds like everyone had a good time.

Many more Twitter-Wood citizens had a grand time at the "Kick-Ass" premiere last night, and several big-name attendees were particularly impressed with Hit-Girl actress Chloe Moretz. Eli Roth and Nathan Fillion were two of them. In other posts, Damon Lindelof did his best to sell "Glee" watchers on "Lost," Randy Newman's "Toy Story 3" scoring wrapped and David Wain went to the dentist. You can check out photographic evidence after the jump in Twitter-Wood for April 14th, 2010. Read More...

Paul Verhoeven has Jesus Christ on the brain lately. Of course he does: he wrote a book about the religious figure, "Jesus of Nazareth." The filmmaker paid a visit to the newsroom last week to chat with MTV's Josh Horowitz about the book, and he discussed some surprising parallel's between the Biblical story of Christ and his classic 1987 film, "RoboCop."

"The point of 'RoboCop,' of course, is it is a Christ story," Verhoeven said. "It is about a guy that gets crucified after 50 minutes, then is resurrected in the next 50 minutes and then is like the super-cop of the world, but is also a Jesus figure as he walks over water at the end." Read More...

There's good news and there's bad news. And then there's news that's just flat-out weird. This definitely falls into that third category.

Sooooo... "Shrek Forever After." It's out pretty soon. The premiere is actually days away, as the movie will be opening the 2010 Tribeca Film Festival. Mike Myers' CG green ogre is a pretty popular guy too, so folks are looking forward to the movie, which is said to be the final chapter in the series. So in these final days for Shrek, his family and his friends... it's time to get sexy!!!

The above image comes from a photo spread in Vman, a men's magazine. It's part of a spread that DreamWorks and Paramount gave the OK on... before they saw the end result, that is. Read More...

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is in the news today for the choice words he had about Bill Parcells and Tim Tebow, possibly uttered while drunk. Jones is also the subject of today's Daily TwitPic, which has absolutely nothing to do with alcoholic beverages or business decisions. As far as we know.

"Entourage" star Jeremy Piven got to hang with Jones recently during a shoot for the soon-to-return HBO series about celeb life wish fulfillment. It's hard to say exactly what Jones will be doing on the show, but it's a safe bet that he'll be playing himself. Could Piven's Ari Gold and his pal/client Vinnie Chase (Adrian Grenier) be taking a trip to Dallas for some football? We'll find out soon enough; the hit series returns this summer. Read More...

When director Matthew Vaughn's "Kick-Ass" smashes its way into theaters this weekend, you're bound to notice Hit-Girl, the unassuming little girl played by Chloe Moretz — who just so happens to be one of the most ruthlessly trained killers New York City has to offer. She also happens to have one of the filthiest mouths I've ever seen from any kid, fictional or otherwise.

But she's not the only swear-happy youth on the cinematic streets. While Hit-Girl is the current reigning queen of vulgarity, here are a few other fictional kids sure to make your ears bleed with naughty language. Read More...

The fanboy service at work in this news is staggering. Joss Whedon, the creator of "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" (the TV series), "Angel," "Dollhouse" and "Firefly," is just a few crossed T's and dotted I's away from landing the job of helming Marvel's ensemble superhero flick, "The Avengers." More than that, he'll sit down and put his considerable writing talents to work on the script if he gets the gig. Get the full report on Whedon directing and re-writing over on MTV Splash Page.

It may be only Wednesday, but this week has already seen some monumental news surface in the world of cable television. The big one on everybody's mind is, of course, Conan O'Brien. The recently ousted "Tonight Show" host was at one point talking to Fox about bringing his nighttime talk game to the network, but that deal fell apart when O'Brien received a much more tantalizing offer from TBS, one that includes ownership of his show.

Elsewhere in the pay cable world, "The Wire" creator David Simon premiered his new urban drama series on HBO, "Treme," an examination of life in post-Katrina New Orleans as seen through the lens of the titular neighborhood's residents: musicians, lawyers, academics, restaurateurs, DJs, Mardi Gras Indian chiefs... a fairly broad cross-section. In an unusual -- but universally welcomed -- move, the pay-cable network announced yesterday that "Treme" was locked in for a second season. As HBO Programming president Michael Lombardo said, "I can’t think of another show that is more emblematic of what we aspire to be as a network than 'Treme.'" Read More...

Quality science fiction is a difficult thing to find. In this age of computer-generated imagery, fancy 3-D technologies and IMAX theaters, the temptation among filmmakers runs high to deliver blockbuster spectacle. While films like "Avatar" and "Transformers" fall squarely within the genre fiction realm in terms of their stories, they tend to trade thought-provoking subtext for big effects and high-concept ideas. To be fair, "Avatar" did feature some noteworthy commentary on the environment and modern-day imperialism, but much of that was lost beneath the spectacle.

We've seen some strong examples of sci-fi over the past several years: "Moon" and "District 9" in 2009; "Sleep Dealer," "WALL-E," "Sunshine," "Children of Men," "Timecrimes" and others in the years before. One name has been noticeably absent from the genre roll-call however: Andrew Niccol. His resume isn't terribly extensive, but Niccol is responsible for two of the strongest sci-fi entries of the '90s: "The Truman Show" (writer) and "Gattaca" (writer/director), also his debut. And now he's back with "I'm.mortal," in which shades of that first movie are clearly visible.

Kickass. Read More...
