"The Lord of the Rings" producer Peter Jackson spoke out last week on the status of "The Hobbit," following rumors that the June production start we'd heard about had been delayed. He was quick to set the record straight, explaining that the two-part adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel hasn't even been greenlit by the studio yet. The scripts are now in and a few roles have been auditioned for, but Jackson doesn't see the production getting underway until fall 2010, at the earliest. Head over to MTV.com for the full story.

I know how excited y'all are to hear that Aziz Ansari will be hosting the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on June 6. Andy Samberg did a kickass job of it last year, but I think Aziz is up to the challenge of following that up, even if there's not another Eminem/Bruno confrontation to highlight the evening.

My big hope is that Ansari, forward-thinking social embracer that he is, will keep us chuckling throughout the night with live tweets from the show. If you don't follow @azizansari on Twitter, then you're missing out. The former "Human Giant" star has one of the most consistently entertaining feeds out there. After the jump you'll find some highlights from the past few months, including Aziz's epic-length live tweet of his "Twilight" cherry-popping. Read More...

Over the weekend, MTV Splash Page editor Rick Marshall headed to Chicago for the inaugural C2E2, shorthand for Chicago Comic & Entertainment Expo, where he got to talk with some luminaries in the field. One notable name he got some face time with was Mike Mignola, the creator of "Hellboy." Guillermo del Toro, director of the first two movies in that franchise, is busy with "The Hobbit" right now, but Mignola remains hopeful that there's a future for it. There's been some informal talk, but nothing beyond that. The comic book writer also revealed that there's was at one point to include a certain character from the comics in "Hellboy II: The Golden Army." You can get all of the details on that and more at MTV Splash Page.

The MTV Movie Awards has a fine tradition of securing some of the greatest talents in both the comedy circuit and Hollywood at large to host the ceremony, and this year is certainly no different — "Funny People" star Aziz Ansari will be shepherding things along during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards in June.

Perhaps you're most familiar with Ansari's work on the big screen opposite Seth Rogen in "Funny People" and "Observe and Report." Maybe you know him best for his viral comedy series as "RAAAAAAAANDY," or his celebrated role on NBC's "Parks & Recreation."

Here at MTV, Ansari will always be remembered as a veteran of the hilarious "Human Giant" sketch comedy series. Read More...

You might have missed this, since it was revealed late in the evening on Friday. The official "Twilight" Twitter feed revealed exactly when fans will get to see the last trailer for "Eclipse," the David Slade-directed third chapter in the series, which hits theaters on June 30. This Friday, April 23, Oprah will unveil the trailer on her talk show.

The news tweet was followed by a second, more mysterious one: "And visit our social networks after to chat live with surprise guests from the cast! More details to come..." Who could these surprise guests be? We'll find out soon enough. For now, get excited, Twilighters!

The Tribeca Film Festival is just days away now and New Yorkers are starting to prepare for their city's annual celebration of film. There are some big names this year, starting with "Shrek Forever After," the (supposed) final chapter in the series, which opens the fest this year.

Today I'm here to showcase "Meskada," a thriller from writer/director Josh Sternfeld starring Nick Stahl, Rachel Nichols and "Twilight" star Kellan Lutz. The story follows a small-town detective investigating the death of a young child, killed during a home robbery. Not that you get a sense of that here; what you do get a sense of is Lutz, shirtless. Enjoy, ladies.

4. "Death at a Funeral" ($17 million)
5. "Clash of the Titans" ($15.8 million)

There's no doubting that "Kick-Ass" is exactly that, but can a bunch of powerless masked crime-fighters stand a chance against some highly trained dragons? That's the question on everybody's mind as the debuting comic book movie slogs through some unexpectedly tough competition in the form of "How To Train Your Dragon," now in its fourth weekend in theaters. Title: "The Zillo Beast Strikes Back"

Writer / Director: Steve Melching / Steward Lee

Tagline: "The most dangerous beast is the beast within."

Story: The plot thread begun last week on Malastare with the fearsome, lightsaber-proof Zillo Beast continue this week... on the populous planet of Coruscant. In a poorly calculated plan to harness the beast's indestructibility for the Republic Army's use, Chancellor Palpatine orders the creature be brought to the same city-world where the government's seat of power presides. Don't they have monster movies a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away? We can be happy they don't, because the chaos that ensues contributes to one of the best episodes this series has seen.
