Few MTV moments are more unforgettable than when Seth Rogen and James Franco appeared at the 2008 MTV Movie Awards. In attendance because of their lead roles in that year's big stoner comedy, "Pineapple Express," Rogen and Franco took to the stage as the most unorthodox presenters in the show's history. I won't spoil it; watch the behind-the-scenes video below to find out exactly what led to the duo's highly appreciated appearance.

Leonard NimoyBeam him up, Scotty — Leonard Nimoy is done. In an interview with The Tornoto Sun, Nimoy revealed that he plans to permanently hang up his Starfleet uniform and retire from acting.

"I've been doing this professionally for 60 years," Nimoy said of his reasons for retiring. "I love the idea of going out on a positive note. I've had a great, great time."

Nimoy's decision to retire means that the actor won't live long and prosper in a planned sequel to last summer's "Star Trek," leaving the much beloved role of Spock entirely to "Heroes" actor Zachary Quinto. Read More...

Last year, Kevin Spacey starred as a pot-smoking celebrity therapist in the movie "Shrink." There were echoes in that character of his role in the Oscar-winning 1999 film "American Beauty," in which Spacey played a pot-smoking suburban husband/dad. MTV's Eric Ditzian asked Spacey at the time of "Shrink"'s release what defined the differences between those characters?

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

April 20, known among the pot-smoking nation (and among people who write the date numerically) as 4/20, is the unofficial holiday celebrating the usage of marijuana. And while MTV does not in any way endorse breaking the law, we certainly acknowledge that a sizable population of people are out there who simply disregard that law. And since you're out there, I figured I'd take a moment to run through some of my favorite flicks to zone out to.

Not that I engage in such activities. If I did though, the following five movies would be pretty badass... Read More...

The release of Tim Blake Nelson's pot-addled black comedy "Leaves of Grass" is a story worthy of 4/20, the unofficial holiday for stoners. In the movie, Ed Norton plays twin brothers (a la Nic Cage in "Adaptation") -- one a pothead, the other a philosophy professor -- who set out to bring down a local drug lord. "Grass" was just about to see a small-scale release... until a strong performance at South By Southwest brought in the much-needed distribution; the movie will now hit theaters later this year.

In the video below, MTV's Josh Horowitz chats with Norton about the film and the role of marijuana in present-day society. The short version: he's all for legalization. Hit play to hear his reasons.

"Beastly" takes a tale as old as time and re-jiggers it for modern audiences. While Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" featured animate, talking household items and a "beast" with noble bearing, "Beastly" instead features a horribly scarred rich kid played by Alex Pettyfer, the lovely Vanessa Hudgens as his love interest and Neil Patrick Harris as the beast's blind, wise-beyond-his-years tutor. Check out the debut trailer below, featuring an exclusive introduction from Hudgens.

The weather looked great in California over the weekend from where Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Anne Hathaway were standing. The "Kick-Ass" star caught a screening of his new film at the Playboy mansion, she made a trip to Coachella, and both ended up on Twitter in pictures to document their activities.

Elsewhere, the weather was not kind to Jon Favreau, or at least the ash cloud over Europe caused by a volcano in Iceland was not. He had to scrap some plans to visit the U.K. thanks so flight cancellations. Check out what he said, why a lost iPhone made LeVar Burton feel better and how Fred Durst likes to dress when he plays golf. It's all on the record in Twitter-Wood for April 19th, 2010. Sacha Baron Cohen-- Sacha Baron Cohen has allegedly been offered the leading role in "The Secret Life of Walter Mitty," the long delayed remake of the 1947 comedy of the same name. Cohen would star as the title character, a writer whose overactive imagination leads to some intriguing fantasies. [Pajiba]

If you read this blog with any regularity, then you know that one thing I absolutely cannot pass on is an opportunity to talk about "Star Wars." The news today is a doozy too. At long last, Lucasfilm has confirmed that the series -- both the more recent prequels and the classic original trilogy -- will get a high definition Blu-ray release.

About. Damn. Time.

Lucasfilm's Steven Sansweet confirmed the upcoming release over the weekend at C2E2 in Chicago. "We have been at work for a couple of years working on—I won't call it the Ultimate Set because we keep finding stuff—but, a very full set of all six movies on Blu-ray with lots of extra material," he revealed to IGN. "We're finding all kinds of scenes from dailies that have never been seen before. Beyond all of those things that you know about… there are some real treasures." Read More...

MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke with legendary actor Robert De Niro last week on the even of the Tribeca Film Festival, which kicks off on Wednesday. The festival co-founder was unusually talkative during their chat, even opening up about a rumored "Taxi Driver" sequel that's long made the rounds among the movies-loving blogosphere. De Niro's role as New York City cab driver Travis Bickle in the 1976 film is considered one of the defining moments in his career. Even still, it's surprising to hear him speak with enthusiasm about possibly returning to the role these many years later.

"I had talked to [writer] Paul Schrader and [director Martin Scorsese] about what would happen to Travis these years later," he explained. "And we had a thing and we tried to figure it out and Paul was trying to come up with something and it just didn't seem to work." Read More...
