What an exciting day. For many, many moons now, there's been this curious IMDb entry for "Untitled James L. Brooks Comedy." There's quite a bit known about it, actually. The movie stars Reese Witherspoon, a professional softball player and two-time Olympian, who is caught in a love triangle between a white collar corporate executive (Paul Rudd) and a professional baseball pitcher (Owen Wilson). Jack Nicholson is also in there, as the father of Rudd's character.

Witherspoon told MTV in early November that the movie had just wrapped, though it still didn't have a title. Now it does, along with a release date and a few new details. Read more...

Somebody get Captain Obvious on the phone, because today's "Scream 4" news has his name all over it. It all started last year, with the news that series creator Kevin Williamson would be returning to his script-flipping horror series with an all-new trilogy set after the events of the original three movies (i.e. not a reboot). Things moved quickly from there, as the Arquettes committed to reprise their roles, as did Neve Campbell (following some uncertainty), and Williamson revealed some of his plans for the follow-up.

Through all of that, it was believed that original series director Wes Craven would return, possibly at the helm. Courteney and David Arquette confirmed as much to MTV back in January. So the news today that Craven is nothing new for people who have been following the wacky turns "Scream 4" has taken in the past bunch of months. Read more...

Once upon a time, a decision was made that it would be a good idea to adapt the classic arcade game "Spy Hunter" into a feature film. The idea of a super-spy and his super-car goes back to James Bond at the very least, but the game is a recognizable enough brand that an adaptation was deemed a groovy idea. John Woo was going to direct and many believed that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, who voiced the lead role in the 2006 video game, would star. The project was later revived by Paul W.S. Anderson.

That plan fell to pieces when Anderson's overflowing plate got in the way. Now, following Warner Bros' 2009 acquisition of the game's publisher, Midway, it looks like those wheels are turning again. THR's Heat Vision Blog reports that the studio has hired Chad St. John -- who has a number of unreleased writing credits, including "Ronin," "Sgt. Rock" and an "Outland" remake -- to pen a script. "Sherlock Holmes" producer Dan Lin and Roy Lee, who was in the news this month with his upcoming "Leonardo da Vinci and the Soldiers of Forever," will both produce. Read more...

"Terminator Salvation" missed the mark a bit, but Sam Worthington was an undeniable highlight. The star, in his pre-"Avatar" days, gave a memorable performance as Marcus Wright, a Skynet terminator who believes he's a man. Although Wright doesn't quite make it through to the end, Worthington shared a few ideas about how his character could return in a sequel with MTV contributor Ryan Downey at the recent press junket for "Clash of the Titans."

"I had an idea that we'd go back in time to when Marcus was first put in jail," he said. The man who the Marcus Wright terminator is based on was a death row inmate prior to Judgment Day. "They broke Linda Hamilton out of jail in ['Terminator 2: Judgment Day'], out of the nuthouse. In this one, they'd have to go back in time and break Marcus out of jail. It's the same kind of mirror image." Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: While everything is still far from official and awaiting studio confirmation, a new report indicates that actor Chris Evans has accepted the role of soldier-turned-superhero Steve Rogers in the upcoming Marvel Studios film "The First Avenger: Captain America."

[UPDATE: Variety is now indicating that the deal is official, though Marvel Studios and Evans' reps have not confirmed.]

According to The Hollywood Reporter, negotiations have moved quickly since the offer was first made to Evans last week. Neither Marvel Studios nor the actor's representatives have confirmed the report at press time.

If Evans indeed becomes the face of Captain America, it will be the fourth live-action movie based on a comic book series in which he's starred. He previously appeared as Johnny Storm in both "Fantastic Four" movies, and has prominent roles in both "The Losers" (based on the DC/Vertigo series) and "Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World" (based on the Oni Press series) later this year.

"Twilight" vampire Kellan Lutz is trading in his fangs and bloodlust for a trident and (presumably) a big, bushy beard. And yes, I am aware that "Twilight" vampires do not actually have fangs. Just roll with it.

Lutz has been cast in the role of Poseidon, Greek god of the sea, in "War of the Gods," an upcoming swords and sandals blockbuster from "The Fall" and "The Cell" director Tarsem Singh. Lutz joins Henry Cavill, Mickey Rourke and Freida Pinto in the growing cast, which is expected to assemble next month for the start of production. Read more...

A week from this Friday, on April 2, Tyler Perry unleashes his latest family-driven drama/comedy on the movies-loving world. "Why Did I Get Married Too," a sequel to Perry's 2007 hit "Why Did I Get Married?" Once again, the story follows a group of couples who get together for an annual vacation wherein they talk, drink and put a lens up to their marriages. In the clip below, we see some circular reasoning applied to relationship advice given in a book written by Janet Jackson's character, Patrica.

The health care bill that passed through the U.S. House last night dethroned Justin Bieber on Twitter's trending topics, but both of them showed up in Twitter-Wood chatter today. The bill had supporters and critics, and former Bieber critic Ken Jeong switched sides to Bieber neutrality, according to a confession post yesterday.

Elsewhere, everyone was watching something last night and had an opinion. Jessica Alba watched frogs jumping off cliffs, Edgar Wright caught a Blur documentary and Greg Mottola saw Ben Stiller in "Greenberg." Find out what they thought and which David Lynch collaborator and composer has a birthday today. It's all in Twitter-Wood for March 22nd, 2010. Read more...

For all of the questions in the past over whether or not it would continue, "Chuck" is a great TV series. It follows an average gamer/geek named Chuck Bartowski who is inadvertently drawn into the shadowy world of global espionage when an series of events end with him having a CIA supercomputer stuck in his head. Best described as a drama/comedy, the show follows Bartowski as he attempts to juggle his personal life with the spy game, which has been an increasing presence in his life through three seasons.

I spoke last week with Ryan McPartlin, who plays Chuck's brother-in-law Devon -- aka Captain Awesome -- on the show. This season has been an interesting one for Devon, as he's the first in Chuck's circle of family and friends to learn of his secret other life. McPartlin is just about to wrap shooting on this third season. During our interview he refused to spill any of his fictional brother-in-law's secrets, but he did promise that something big will go down. Read more...

One of my favorite underrated movies of the last decade is "Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy." It wasn't a bomb, but it only just made back its budget at the box office and has floundered a bit in its home video afterlife. A real shame when you consider that "Guide," which was a spiritually (if not 100% textually) sound adaptation of the book, is only the first in a series by the late author, Douglas Adams. Speaking last week at ShoWest to Jay Roach, who produced and worked with Adams on the script for the movie, MTV's Larry Carroll asked if we'll ever see "Restaurant at the End of the Universe" and the rest of the series adapted for film.

"I don't know if they'd ever bring that back," Roach said, "but I loved working with those guys Garth [Jennings] and Nick [Goldsmith], who directed it." (Editor's note: IMDb lists only Jennings as the director, and Goldsmith as a producer.) Read more...
