Summit Entertainment is clearly gearing up to get moving on "Breaking Dawn," the final entry in the "Twilight" (which still may or may not be released in two parts). There was a lot of talk over the last week or two about potential directors, with the names Gus Van Sant, Sofia Coppola, Bill Condon and Stephen Daldry all coming up as short-list possibilities. I put those options to a vote last week: Coppola got 40%, Van Sant got 27%, Condon got 18% and Daldry got 15%. So no clear majority.

Well I'm here today to make things even more confusing. This isn't an official possibility on the table for Summit -- as far as we know -- but a noteworthy filmmaker professed his love for Stephenie Meyer's vampire series in a chat on the Kid's Choice Awards red carpet over the weekend: M. Night Shyamalan. Read More...

"Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows" parts one and two will be the first in the long-running series based on J.K. Rowling's books to be shown entirely in 3-D. The two movies, which hit theaters on November 19, 2010 and July 15, 2011, respectively, were shot using traditional cameras; the finished films will be converted to the increasingly popular format during the post-production process.

"Potter" producer David Heyman is very excited about the possibilities offered by 3-D. The decision to use the format for "Deathly Hallows" grew out of a number of factors. "I think that it emerged organically," he said in an exclusive interview with MTV's Eric Ditzian. "Clearly, the success of 3-D movies has had an impact on the economy and making of films. We saw an opportunity and grabbed it. Also, 'Harry Potter' itself has so many exciting possibilities for 3-D, both in things coming at you and also just in making that world seem even more epic than it already is." Read More...

Here we are, a little more than three months after the release of "Avatar," and the hyperbole has proven to be true: the movie was a game-changer. MTV's 3-D Week is a direct response to that; we've been following the growing interest in 3-D since before "Avatar" hit theaters, and studios across the board are getting behind it. A lot of the excitement around the format lies in getting people out to theaters again; high definition displays, surround sound and Blu-ray have made it all too easy to recreate the experience of going out to the movies in the home. And while at-home 3-D technology isn't as far off as you might think, it's going to be some time before everyone adopts it.

As a result, "Avatar" -- which hits DVD and Blu-ray on April 22 -- faces an interesting new challenge. The majority of tickets sold for James Cameron's record-breaking sci-fi epic were for 3-D screenings. I have to wonder how the movie will stand up to home viewings without that added appeal of 3-D. Cameron isn't terribly concerned.

"It's a trade space," he explained in an interview with MTV contributor Ryan Downey. "You're trading one thing for another." In this case, it's a 3-D presentation for... what? Read More...

Moviegoers pledged their 3-D loyalty to "How to Train Your Dragon" over reigning champion "Alice in Wonderland" this weekend, as the DreamWorks animated family film won the top spot at the box office with $43.3 million. Playing in over 4,000 locations with a per theater average of $10,678, the end result for "Dragon" wasn't nearly as satisfying as the studio would have hoped for given the movie's hefty $165 million production budget. George Clooney is nothing if not eclectic in his picking of roles, and such is the case with "The Men Who Stare at Goats," the bizarrely fascinating film that finds Clooney as a psychic warfare soldier in a special operations squad. The DVD and Blu-ray are out this week and we've snagged one of the special features: a deleted scene which features none other than recent Oscar-winner Jeff Bridges teaching Aikido to Clooney and a gaggle of fellow soldiers.

Some of the "Hot Tube Time Machine" cast members want to see it trending more often on Twitter, while others, like Rob Corddry, just want to see rank in some more dough -- though I think he may be joking about his expectations. Nevertheless, however well the show does this weekend, they do appear to have sold a ticket to Damon Lindelof.

The recent burst of spring weather has prompted plenty outdoor activities in Twitter-Wood as well. Take Mariah Carey for instance, who's taken up swimming with puppies, and Chris Kattan, who's renting a place on the beach. They're retweeted below along with James Gunn's take on the Catholic Church and Sandra Bullock and a WrestleMania XXVI costume quest in Twitter-Wood for March 26th, 2010. Read More...

A couple weeks ago, we heard that "The Last Song" star Liam Hemsworth was in negotiations to star in a 3-D adaptation of "Arabian Nights." We caught up to him on the red carpet at "The Last Song" premiere last night and he confirmed that it is, in fact, happening.

"I think we're going to shoot it in September," he said. "It's a big action film with swords and fighting and cool stuff." He didn't have any more details to share than that, other than admitting that he doesn't think he's seen a 3-D movie, but he certainly seems excited to be following his brother Chris (aka the star of "Thor") into blockbuster action. CliffordMartin Short, one of the great comedians of our generation, turns 60 years old today. Today, I'll pay tribute to the actor by honoring a movie of his that's not just my favorite Short performance, but one of my personal favorite comedies of all time. No, it's not "Father of the Bride." Sorry, not "The Three Amigos," either. No can do on "Mars Attacks," though you're getting a little bit warmer.

"Clifford." My favorite Short movie is "Clifford," and it's also one of my favorite comedies of all time. Deal with it. Read More...
