Director Michel Gondry is down at South By Southwest right now promoting his documentary "The Thorn in His Heart," which offers a highly personal look at his family. MTV's Josh Horowitz snagged a few minutes to chat with him, and he asked if Gondry would like to follow up "The Green Hornet" with something similarly epic in its scale.

"I'd like to do a movie of this size with my own story, which would be quite amazing. But we'll see," he said. "I'm developing a screenplay with a writer right now about kids who travel [into] the future by mistake and a machine [that] keeps people younger... ehhh, it's complicated to explain." Read More...

On paper, it was a surefire weekend winner. A "Twilight" star and a "Lost" star in the male and female leads, respectively. Chris Cooper and Pierce Brosnan supporting the starring duo of Robert Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin. A dramatic story where Twilighters finally get to see RPattz stretch himself.

With all of that going for it, "Remember Me" still clocked in an opening weekend box office gross of $8.3 million, which was only good enough to land the number four spot on the charts, behind "Alice in Wonderland," "Green Zone" and "She's Out of My League." I'm here to try to figure out what happened.

Was "Remember Me" on your radar, Twilighters? Were you excited for it? Those who saw it: did you enjoy the movie? I'd really like to hear from you readers on this. A couple weeks ago, news flared up that Angelina Jolie would be ditching the "Wanted" sequel for "Gravity," a promising-sounding sci-fi flick from director Alfonso Cuaron. It turned out to be not entirely true: while Jolie is still out of the "Wanted" sequel, she won't be joining "Gravity" either.

Still, Cuaron's sci-fi pitch -- astronauts try to get back to Earth after the space station they work out of is destroyed while they're away -- is sound. The "Avatar" and "District 9" Oscar noms indicates there's an interest right now in good science fiction (one word: "Moon"!!!), and Cuaron has some nice background there, as the director/co-writer of the 2007 Oscar-nominated "Children of Men." Now he's got a top-caliber actor interested in joining "Gravity": Robert Downey Jr. Read More...

Sad news out of Hollywood. Actor Peter Graves, star of TV's "Mission: Impossible," died yesterday in his Pacific Palisades home at the age of 83. Graves; first credited role was 1951's "Rogue River." He went on to log more than 100 film, television and video game performances, including high-profile gigs like IMF team leader Jim Phelps on "Mission: Impossible" (which earned him a Golden Globe), cowboy Jim Newton on NBC's '50s Western series "Fury," turncoat Price in Billy Wilder's "Stalag 17" and, of course, the comically perverse airline pilot Capt. Clarence Oveur in "Airplane!" and "Airplane II: The Sequel."

"Airplane!" and its sequel were one of those staples for anyone who grew up during the '80s. Along with Leslie Neilsen, Graves' scenes are among the most memorable. Such as the Abbott & Costello-inspired Oveur/Unger/Dunne crew introductions and Oveur's played-for-comedy fascination with gladiators, Turkish prisons and naked men. Graves was a master at playing it straight, at allowing the comedy to grow out of the situation rather than forcing it. Graves lived a full life and a had a memorable career, and his presence will be missed.

Oveur and out.

Jonah Hill has certainly made a name for himself on the comedy circuit with roles in "Superbad" and the upcoming "Get Him to the Greek," but he's a significantly lesser known quantity when it comes to dramatic film fare. But Hill is taking the plunge away from comedy by signing on to star opposite Brad Pitt in director Bennett Miller's "Moneyball," currently speculated to shoot in June.

Hill is well aware that there's some skepticism from fans about his involvement in "Moneyball" as Paul DePodesta, but the actor has a hard time believing that his participation will ruin the film.

"Aaron Sorkin wrote the script, Bennett Miller who directed 'Capote' is directing it, and Brad Pitt is the other star besides me in the movie — and somehow, I've ruined the movie without even having done anything in it," he joked in an interview with MTV News at this weekend's South by Southwest festival. "That's how powerful my crappiness is. I mean, come on." Read More...

After the widely panned "Alien vs. Predator" movies nearly tanked both franchises, it's hard to believe that the four-jawed alien hunters are actually making their way back to the big screen. Most surprising of all, of course, is that the upcoming "Predators" film actually looks like it's going to deliver.

It's a sense of skepticism that didn't go over producer Robert Rodriguez and director Nimrod Antal's heads when they took the reins on "Predators." The creative duo knew that they needed to give the beloved franchise a much needed shot in the arm.

"We knew that we had to make people scared of the predators again," Rodriguez told MTV News at this weekend's South by Southwest festival. "And by doing that, we needed characters that were afraid of them and that you believed in." Read More...

2. "Green Zone" ($5 million)
3. "Remember Me" ($3.6 million)
4. "She's Out of My League" ($3.3 million)
5. "Our Family Wedding" ($2.5 million)

Moviegoers proved that there's still plenty of wonder to be had within the 3-D world of Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland." The Disney fantasy film took a decisive $17.4 million first place finish on Friday, bringing the worldwide total to $258 million thus far. The weekend is still young, but it'll take quite a bit of effort to dethrone "Alice" for its second week in a row. Read More...

CloverfieldOn January 18th, 2008, "Cloverfield" wreaked havoc upon the citizens of New York City and theatergoers nationwide — and it left fans of horror and monster movies wanting more. But given the secretive nature that surrounded the J.J. Abrams-produced project, there have been very few words offered on the status of a possible "Cloverfield" sequel.

Over the weekend at South By Southwest, MTV's very own Josh Horowitz had the opportunity to speak with "Cloverfield" director Matt Reeves about the status of a sequel to the 2008 thriller. Read More...
