Last June, MTV News traveled up to Vancouver to visit the set of "Tron Legacy," Disney's stand-alone sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic. Along with a select group of journalists, we toured the set, talked to cast and crew and immersed ourselves in all things "Tron."

A studio-imposed embargo has now lifted and we can bring you the first of our interviews. Here's some of what Steven Lisberger, the co-writer/director of the original film, had to say.

Question: How weird is it for you to be in the sequel to "Tron" in 2009?

Steven Lisberger: We're in unchartered territory right now. It's a little bit like Rip Van Winkle. I was working along on "Tron" and then all of a sudden it stopped and it took 28 years to do all this other stuff, which I guess I needed to do.... So it feels strangely really right. More than one would think. Read More...

This was one of those Twitter-Wood Mondays where I could have easily put together a double-installment, what with everyone remembering the late Peter Graves' "Mission: Impossible" days, reactions to "The Pacific" and a truly disturbing "Twilight" doll that Alex Meraz TwitPic'd.

Still, today's highlight may have been Russell Brand's commentary on Lady Gaga's "Telephone" video, which incidentally was not banned by MTV. In fact, I wish I could turn on a Brand audio track during some parts of the video. Check out his Twitter account for more than what I've retweeted, and find a depiction of Robert Pattinson, some fratty guys on Splash Mountain and more in Twitter-Wood for March 15th, 2010. I spent most of my weekend at home, crying, because I wasn't in Austin to see the South By Southwest premiere of footage from Nimrod Antal's upcoming sequel, "Predators." The original was one of the formative action flicks for a young Arnold Schwarzenegger, a sci-fi jungle romp in which the muscular Austrian bodybuilder (playing a military man, naturally) engaged in a game of cat-and-mouse with an alien hunter armed with high explosives and stealth technology.

"Predators," best characterized as an indirect sequel, goes for more of an ensemble approach. A group of people from various combat-oriented organizations wake up on a distant planet with no memory of how they got there. What they do know is that they're being hunted. Despite Schwarzenegger's absence, one of the stars -- Adrien Brody -- made an effort to keep the spirit of the original alive in "Predators," as he told MTV's Josh Horowitz over the weekend.

"I have tremendous respect for Schwarzenegger and what he's built," Brody explained. "He's built so much from his dedication to his physique. And obviously I'm not hired for that. I really respect what he's done-- he's awesome in 'Predator.'" Read More...

Remember when "Searching for Bobby Fischer" came out and everyone was confused because it wasn't a movie about a guy named Bobby Fischer? Well, you curious folk and especially chess fans will finally get that Fischer biopic. Variety reports that "Fight Club" director David Fincher will helm "Pawn Sacrifice" at Columbia Pictures, which also produced his upcoming Facebook movie "The Social Network."

"Pawn Sacrifice" will tell the first half of the chess Grandmaster's life story, from his beginnings as a prodigy of the game through to his historical (mostly for the media's hyping its Cold War significance) 1972 World Championship match against Russian rival Boris Spassky, after which Fischer became a celebrity and then, surprisingly, retreated into early retirement. As a guy who spent most of his childhood running amok through the '80s and '90s, the narcs-turned-high school kids TV series "21 Jump Street" holds a special place in my heart. And not just because it unleashed Johnny Depp on the world. So it's with great excitement then that I greet Jonah Hill's (he's writing, producing and presumably starring) planned big screen adaptation, which will feature a similar setup as the TV show, only set against the backdrop of today's world.

MTV's Josh Horowitz got to have a little chat with Hill at South By Southwest over the weekend, and the two talked "Jump Street." As you may know, MTV has been a big advocate of making a Depp cameo happen, working both the superstar actor and the announced directors. Now he's brought the plea to Hill directly, and here's what the "Superbad" star had to say.

"[Depp and I] haven't had any direct contact before. I've just heard that he's interested and I'm more than interested," Hill explained. "We will make that happen. If he is down to do it, we have written a really, really funny cameo for him in the movie." Read More...

Today is March 15. Also known as the Ides of March on the Roman calendar. The day is significant because it's the same day Julius Caesar was cut down on the floor of the Roman Senate, in 44 BC. It was a public assassination spearheaded by Caesar's supposed supporter Marcus Junius Brutus -- hence the famous line from Shakespeare's play, "Et tu, Brute?" -- and participated in by many of those present that day. Now, more than 2,000 years later, and thanks largely to the aforementioned playwright, people still know to "Beware the Ides of March!"

Hollywood fiction is rife with double-crosses. Some of the best films in history hinge on a sudden reversal of loyalty. Let's face it: double-talk and surprise twists make for good storytelling. And there's little that's more surprising than a dude who you thought was a good guy turning around and shooting the hero in the face. Or more likely, missing by inches and paying the price for that treachery. What kind of Hollywood ending would it be if the good guys didn't win?

So in the spirit of the Ides of March, here are some of our favorite classic Hollywood double-crosses. Needless to say, some spoilers lie ahead. Read More...

"How To Train Your Dragon 3D" is the next big 3-D release coming our way and family-friendliness aside, I have to say... it looks pretty sweet. The voice cast, which includes Jay Baruchel, America Ferrara, Jonah Hill, Gerard Butler, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Craig Ferguson, is great and the Vikings vs. dragons premise sounds like several different layers of awesome. In the exclusive clip below, you can see Hiccup (Baruchel) and his fellow dragon-hunters in training getting a lesson in one particular breed of two-headed uber-reptile. Enjoy!

Steven Spielberg/ 'The Neverending Story'With an amazing number of classics under his belt, Steven Spielberg is arguably the highest-profile filmmaker in Hollywood. As such, his history is rife with collaborations with his peers on films like “Gremlins” and “Back to the Future.” But until now, nobody has known of his involvement with the children’s classic, “The Neverending Story,” and how George Lucas influenced the American cut.

In 1983, Spielberg was riding high with nine Oscar nominations for “E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (his team would take home four statues that year). At the same time, a little-known German filmmaker named Wolfgang Petersen traveled to the United States for his hyper-suspenseful submarine thriller “Das Boot,” which was up for six Academy Awards.

The two directors met and became friends, with Spielberg soliciting Petersen for opinions on where in Europe to shoot “Schindler’s List.” With a bond formed, Petersen decided to approach Spielberg about a German-produced film called “The Neverending Story,” hoping to get his thoughts on bringing the fantasy film to an American audience. Spielberg agreed, and a partnership formed that until our exclusive interview with Petersen, is little known. Read More...

"Sucker Punch" is one of those movies that might not be on your radar, but it should. Zack Snyder, the director of "300," "Watchmen" and the "Dawn of the Dead" remake, is finally turning his attention -- and his talent for what makes stylish film -- to an original story. That story is "Sucker Punch."

We don't know much. A young girl is committed to an insane asylum by her jerk stepdad and she slips into an elaborate fantasy world of her own creation to deal with it. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke with Carla Gugino, who stars with Vanessa Hudgens, Jena Malone, Jon Hamm, Michael Jai White and a large ensemble of other talented players, at South By Southwest over the weekend, and she had a little bit to say about her unusual character. Characters.

"I play a Polish psychiatrist in the 1960s," she said. Well that's not very strange. "And in an alternate world I play a dominatrix choreographer-slash-madame in a brothel," she added. Oh. Well... yeah. That's pretty out there. Read More...

Last September we learned that The Weinstein Co. is planning another installment of Robert Rodriguez' family sci-fi franchise "Spy Kids" and that it would be shot in the new digital 3-D format (unlike "Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over," which used a form of the old anaglyph type of 3-D). Well, the fact that there will be a new "Spy Kids" was correct, but it won't be "Part 4" of the initial series.

At SXSW, where Robert Rodriguez just premiered footage from "Predators," he revealed he's actually rebooting his own franchise and that this new "Spy Kids" will be his next project as a director. The Playlist shares the news from Austin, relaying that the "Grindhouse" co-director has set the story 10 years later and will cast all new kids for the leads. Read More...
