Hank Azaria of "The Simpsons" and "Mystery Men" and "Glee" actress Jayma Mays joined the credits for director Raja Gosnell's "Smurfs" movie, and Azaria will likely have to play up his age — or at least get uglier — for his role as Gargamel. The live-action/animated hybrid project will feature Mays as one of its two human leads; the other belongs to Neil Patrick Harris. So expect to see at least one Simpsonian performance when this hits theaters, no matter what the Smurfs look like.

Casting is still underway for other parts, but Mays will be pregnant, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Azaria's energy and acrobatic voice stylings should make him an easy fit for the Smurfs' nemesis, flesh and blood, CGI or whatever they choose for the character.

Not everyone in Twitter-Wood chose to wear green for St. Patrick's Day, but some, like Kat Dennings, had to confront pinch mobs as a direct result of their decisions. Others, like P. Diddy and Kim Kardashian embraced the holiday, wearing green and identifying their Irish heritage.

Jon Favreau, meanwhile, still has a little bit of effects work left to do on "Iron Man 2," and he's still updating his Twitter account right into his last days on the project. You can find out what he's doing, see what Emmy Rossum thought of "Justified" on FX and see pictures that I can only assume include Selena Gomez's bowling team and a popular nickname for Christopher Mintz-Plasse on the "Kick-Ass" set. It's all in Twitter-Wood for March 17th, 2010. Read More...

While everyone was obsessing over the not-yet-aired Academy Awards show a couple weeks ago, I was running around in circles at the news that "Police Academy" was coming back. Not just that, but series producer Paul Maslansky was leading the charge to bring it back. This is very exciting news for me, as the "Police Academy" series is one that stands out in my formative experiences with film.

I immediately put in a call to Maslansky, not even daring to hope that he would speak with the press at such an early stage. He did though, and we had a lengthy conversation about the past, present and future of "Police Academy." The specific details haven't yet been hammered out, but it's clear from talking to the man that there's a plan which all involved parties are focused on carrying out. There's too much from the interview to contain in a single blog post, so I figured I'd start off with what my fellow fans are most interested in: what's up with the eighth "Police Academy"? ReconEpisode Title: "Recon"

Written By: Elizabeth Sarnoff & Jim Galasso

Story: When James Ford (Josh Holloway) rejoins the man posing as John Locke (Terry O'Quinn) and his most recent recruits from the Temple, he's asked to travel to Hydra Island in order to do reconnaissance on the remaining survivors of Ajira Flight 316 — but what Sawyer stumbles upon there is something far more resourceful and dangerous than a group of agitated plane crash survivors.

Meanwhile, Kate (Evangeline Lilly) learns that Claire (Emilie de Ravin) is anything but grateful for the former fugitive's three year stint as Aaron's mother. In the sideways universe, Sawyer walks along a different side of the law but his sights remain firmly set on finding the man responsible for his parents' deaths. Read More...

Happy St. Patrick's Day! Originally a March 17th holiday for Catholics, the day has transformed over the years to become a general celebration by all of Irish culture. For many people, this means two things: whiskey (preferably Jameson) and Guinness.

Of course, St. Patrick's Day is also all about shrouding yourself in the color green. Each year, the Chicago River is dyed that color in celebration. In Seattle, they paint the day's parade route in green lines. Hell, this morning at breakfast in MTV's cafeteria, even the bagels were green. Bad choice there, I think. Who wants to eat a green bread product?

My point is, green is a vital part of St. Patrick's Day. Which is why, after the jump, I run through a sampling of the many variations of "green" movies you can find. Read More...

I'll be honest, I went into my first screening of "Hot Tub Time Machine" with some trepidation, feeling somewhat underwhelmed by the trailers and a general sense of how many comedies try and fail. But I'm happy to say that it breezes through with flying colors, and is among the funniest movie-going experiences I've had in some time.

The film stars John Cusack, Rob Corddry, Craig Robinson and Clark Duke as friends who enter a magical hot tub and are transported back to the 1980s. Getting the easy '80s jokes out of the way, the film sets into a cascading rhythm of funny moments, some gross-out humor, and most of all terrific performances which, at the end of the day, is the foundation this film is built on. I loved it, have seen it twice and would easily go a third time.

To promote the film, Corddry, Robinson and Duke sent on a nationwide "Tub Crawl," stopping in Alaska and New Orleans' festive Marti Gras. We've got an exclusive behind-the-scenes video of their travels, which you can watch below. "Hot Tub Time Machine" bows March 26.

Add another excellent ingredient to the mix of Paul Thomas Anderson's next film, a 1950s-set religious drama starring Philip Seymour Hoffman. Deadline confirms the long-rumored idea that the recently Oscar-nominated Jeremy Renner ("The Hurt Locker") is "circling" the prominent role of a young drifter taken under the wing of Hoffman's religious leader, who calls himself The Master. The project has mostly been referred in the media as "the Scientology movie," due to the parallels between The Master and L. Ron Hubbard.

The Playlist first spawned Renner's potential involvement via an anonymous source who commented on the site's review of Anderon's script for the film. But the casting always seemed unlikely because the character is written as being in his 20s, and Renner is 39. Yet in spite of The Playlist's preference, it appears the film will be reworked to bring the very talented and suddenly very hot actor on board. Read More...

Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp are currently hard at work on "The Tourist." In the thriller, Jolie plays an Interpol agent tasked with bringing down a French underworld gangster with whom she once had... intimate relations. Her plan comes to involve Frank Taylor (Depp), an American tourist who heads to Europe after a rough break-up. The real takeaway for me is that it seems Depp will be playing an actual human in his next film rather than a caricature. Good stuff.

MTV's Spotted managed to nab a couple of photos from the set of the in-production movie. You can clearly see Jolie and Depp doing their thing and, wouldn't you know it, the "Alice in Wonderland" star does indeed seem to be free of heavy makeup and fantastical props. It'll be nice to see Depp act like a real person again, don't you think? Click the image below for both photos along with the rest of our ever-growing Spotted gallery.

Back in March, we learned of a plan for "Twilight" players Kristen Stewart and Nikki Reed to appear together "in a fact-based drama/comedy that would have them playing men." The movie, called "K-11," would mark the directorial debut of Stewart's mother, Jules. And it would place the two ladies-as-men in an LA prison with co-star Jason Mewes. Wacky.

We caught up with Kristen this week as she was promoting the Friday release of her latest effort, "The Runaways," and she shared a little bit of what's been going on with "K-11" since we last heard about it.

"It's just one of those things where you try and get a movie off the ground that's small," Kristen said of the non-movement. Read More...

Conan O'Brien may not get to host "The Tonight Show" anymore, but he could instead star in his own film. According to Deadline, a documentary crew is likely to follow the talk show vet during “The Legally Prohibited From Being Funny on Television Tour," his 30-city live stage show that kicks off in Eugene, OR on April 12.

Appropriately enough for today, "Leprechaun 2" director Rodman Flender is in talks to make the documentary, which is also trying to secure financing. As long as the film doesn't air on television right away, it won't violate O'Brien's terms with NBC which prohibit him from appearing on the small screen until the fall. Read More...
