FROM SPLASH PAGE: When the news broke this morning that actress Rose McGowan had joined the cast of Marcus Nispel's upcoming "Conan" movie as "an evil half-human/half-witch," one question seemed to be on the minds of fans: What about "Red Sonja"?

Originally tagged to play the female barbarian back in 2008, McGowan reported in August 2009 that "Red Sonja" had been delayed. The character was rumored to make a cameo in "Conan," since she made her first appearance in "Conan the Barbarian" comics, but today's casting news certainly makes such a cameo difficult — if not altogether impossible.

Fortunately, MTV News checked in with "Red Sonja" producer Robert Rodriguez during the recent South By Southwest Film Festival to find out where the project is at these days.

Here's an animated film for the vegetarians out there, something to put on the shelf next to "Chicken Run": it's called "Turkeys," and it's about two gobblers who discover a time machine, travel back to pre-Colonial times and stop their kind from being made synonymous with Thanksgiving dinner. I'm not sure what else they suggest to take their place on the menu, but I'm guessing it won't be another kind of meat, which would make this like an adaptation of a Chik-fil-A commercial.

Variety reports that the turkey duo will be voiced by Owen Wilson and Woody Harrelson, which implies that these birds will be lovable loser-types: slackers, surfers or even stoners. "Turkeys" will be a family film though, despite the fact that it's being executive produced Peter Farrelly, so don't expect explicit drug jokes or anything too raunchy. Read More...

It's been a decade since the last "Saturday Night Live" spin-off movie, the Tim Meadows-starring "The Ladies Man" (which is actually a lot better than people give it credit for). It's a shorter gap than there was between "The Blues Brothers" and "Wayne's World" -- 12 years there -- but still a significant amount of time. The break worked out way back when, and if early reports from South By Southwest are accurate, it will be equally beneficial for "MacGruber," the latest "SNL" spin-off.

"MacGruber" is a spoof of classic TV action hero "MacGyver," a man who could get out of any jam given enough common household items to work with. MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke with the comedy sketch's creator (and the spin-off's director) Jorma Taccone as well as MacGruber himself, Will Forte, at SXSW about the difficulties of translating a series of brief parody sketches for the big screen and the differences between the two.

"It's much, much longer," Taccone said. "That's the biggest difference-- it's much, much longer." Read More...

Sandra Bullock's 2010 got off to a tremendous start, career-wise. She won an Oscar, a Golden Globe, a Critics' Choice Award, a People's Choice Award, a Screen Actor's Guild Award and an Image Award, all of them for her performance in "The Blind Side." She also picked Worst Actress and Worst Screen Couple awards at the Razzies for "All About Steve." She not only accepted the dubious awards with grace, she also made history by becoming the first Oscar winner to also win a Razzie in the same awards season.

Sadly, Bullock's personal life has not been as kind. There are unconfirmed reports that the actress has left the Southern California home she shares with her husband, TV personality Jesse James, due to marital difficulties. This isn't the forum for bringing out all of the gossip surrounding Bullock's personal life, but suffice to say it is causing her grief. It's come to the point that Warner Bros UK issued a statement revealing that Bullock won't be attending next Tuesday's London premiere of "The Blind Side" due to "unforeseen personal reasons." "I ain't got no time to bleed!"

Jesse Ventura spoke those unforgettable words in the 1987 sci-fi/action flick, "Predator," starring Arnold Schwarzenegger. Now, more than 20 years later, we're going to get to hear that line again, uttered by someone else in a different, yet similar, context.

"Predators" hits theaters on July 5. This time around, a group of battle-hardened people from different walks of life are kidnapped, only to wake up on a distant alien world, prey trapped inside a massive hunting ground for the titular alien aggressors. Star Topher Grace confirmed to MTV's Josh Horowitz at South By Southwest last weekend that the memorable phrase does indeed make an appearance. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Though an official announcement that "Breaking Dawn" is coming to the big screen — and Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner along with it — has not yet been made, word has already broken that three Oscar-nominated directors have been approached for the job: Sofia Coppola ("Lost in Translation"), Gus Van Sant ("Milk") and Bill Condon ("Dreamgirls").

While Pattinson has already cast his vote for Van Sant, the director that seemed to most excite Stewart and co-star Dakota Fanning when we spoke with them Tuesday is Coppola. So which director would be the best fit for "Breaking Dawn"? Let's take a look.

It's looking like Chloe Moretz is going to have a good year. Whether or not you think it's unnecessary, people -- including myself -- are excited to see her star in Matt Reeves' vampire flick "Let Me In," a remake of the incredibly popular Swedish original from 2008, "Let the Right One In."

First though, there's "Kick-Ass," the upcoming unlikely superhero action/comedy which hits theaters next month. Moretz plays Hit-Girl, one of the story's costumed vigilantes. She was down at South By Southwest last weekend to promote the movie, along with co-star Christopher Mintz-Plasse, who plays Red Mist, another of the movie's crimefighters. In today's Daily TwitPic, you can see the duo chilling out in the midst of what was undoubtedly a busy press schedule. Read More...

Last week, an odd-yet-exciting bit of news emerged that Peter Farrelly and longtime collaborator Charles Wessler are pulling together a sketch comedy movie in the vein of classics like "Kentucky Fried Movie." The news in and of itself qualifies as "interesting," but it amps up quite a bit when you look at the confirmed cast and oddball lineup of sketch directors. I won't list them all here -- click the link above for that -- but rest assured, it is massive.

One of the names on that list is Gerard Butler. I mention him specifically not just because we talked to him, but also because he went into great detail on how he fits into the untitled ensemble.

"I play the most perverse, disturbing, disgusting, foul-mouthed leprechaun you could ever imagine," he said. But wait... it actually gets even better. Read More...

If you've been reading this blog for some amount of time, then you've probably read my raving excitement for "Ghostbusters III." I've been following the development of this long-awaited sequel very closely. "The Office" writers Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky ("Year One") have a script due in May for the 2011 release, the original 'Busters are said to be returning and Ivan Reitman, the director of the first two movies, will be back to direct the third. Or so we thought.

Apparently, Sony would like to pull a "Spider-Man" with "Ghostbusters," bringing in a young, hip director to -- you guessed it -- reboot the franchise for a new generation, Vulture reports. It's common knowledge that the plan has been to have the focus of the coming sequel be on a sort of "new class" of 'Busters, with the original guys -- Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson -- on hand to pass their torch along. So the real surprise here is the Reitman hesitation. And since Reitman, along with Aykroyd, Ramis and Murray, has significant amount of creative control over the franchise, an impasse between the two groups could conceivably lead to the death of "Ghostbusters III." See the supple-faced chick down below? Well look again, because that ain't no chick. To wit, it's erstwhile "Batman Begins" star Cillian Murphy, who stars in "Peacock," a psychological thriller about a man whose feminine side is exposed to the town...except they think it's his wife, Emma. Through the rest of the film, Murphy struggles to keep his secret from his neighbors, being both man and woman in this solo relationship.
