We might not have an official title yet, but rest assured that work on the third "Transformers" movie is moving right along. It better be, with July 1, 2011 as the date it is set for release by Paramount. Shooting hasn't started yet, but MTV's Larry Carroll learned from star Josh Duhamel at ShoWest last week that the script is now finished.

"I just read it yesterday," he said. Interesting. Maybe we can get some details? "I can't tell you." No shock there. Duhamel likes what he read though. "After reading it I was really pleasantly surprised and happy, and I think that they did a great job." Read More...

It's been quite a ride for "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" since it was first announced last September. First there was concern over whether star Johnny Depp would return following Dick Cook's departure from Disney. Then a few story details emerged, a director was confirmed and new stars were confirmed while old ones stepped away.

Speaking to producer Jerry Bruckheimer at ShoWest in Las Vegas last week, MTV's Larry Carroll learned a bit more about these new characters.

"We have a new villain, Blackbeard, who's the nastiest pirate ever. That's Ian McShane," Bruckheimer said. McShane is perhaps most memorable for his role on HBO's "Deadwood" as the sometimes-villainous/sometimes-benevolent but always self-serving bar/brothel owner Al Swearengen. "And a little romance between Captain Jack and the character Penelope plays," the producer continued. "There's a lot of humor, she brings a lot of humor to it. And the fact that she's so feisty. She plays the daughter of Blackbeard." Read More...

Alice in Wonderland1. "Alice in Wonderland" ($34.5 million)
2. "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" ($21.8 million)
3. "The Bounty Hunter" ($21 million)
4. "Repo Men" ($6.2 million)
5. "She's Out of My League" ($6 million)

Given the massive success of James Cameron's "Avatar" and now Tim Burton's "Alice in Wonderland," it's certainly looking like 3-D is the format to beat. For the third weekend in a row, "Alice" scored the top prize at the box office with a $34.5 million haul, just a 45% drop from last weekend's $62.7 intake. As of now, the film is sitting on top of a domestic gold pile worth $265.8 million. Read More...

Title: "Ghosts in the Machine"

Director: Wayne Rose

Story: Like last week's episode, we're back to hunting ghosts in "Caprica." Joseph Adama continues to search V-World's New Cap City for his daughter Tamara's avatar with the help of his mysterious guide. Bankruptcy rumors about Blockbuster were not met with sympathy from one filmmaker in the Twitter-Wood feed. Troma Entertainment's Lloyd Kaufman took the opportunity to sound off about his long-running dissatisfaction with the video rental giant, and he doesn't wish them well.

Elsewhere, Simon Pegg has been pushing forward with filming on "Burke and Hare," and he mentioned a scene location today that the movie will share with "Gladiator." Emmy Rossum geared for some March Madness basketball action, and Kat Dennings bought a spiffy new pair of boots. You can check those out after the jump along some of the weirdest sock monkey headgear ever to the grace this column in Twitter-Wood for March 19th, 2010. Read More...

Earlier this week, I had the privilege of speaking with "Caprica" creators Ron Moore and David Eick at Syfy's upfront party in New York City. It was a rare opportunity to get an inside glimpse into the minds of the guys responsible for making the word "Cylon" relevant to the science fiction-loving world once again, with their completed Syfy series "Battlestar Galactica."

"Caprica" is a prequel spin-off of the series, focused on the families of Daniel Graystone (Eric Stoltz), creator of the Cylons, and Joseph Adama (Esai Morales), father of "BSG" favorite William Adama (Edward James Olmos). The eighth episode of the first season, "Ghosts in the Machine," airs this evening. I'll get you a recap first thing in the morning. For now though, let's hear from Moore and Eick on what fans can expect moving forward. Read More...

Ryan Phillippe was down at South By Southwest last weekend to promote "MacGruber," in which he plays a relatively straight role to Will Forte's MacGyver-like running joke. While chatting MTV's Josh Horowitz up with fellow star Kristen Wiig about the film, Phillippe mentioned another project that he'll soon get started on.

"I think I'm doing a Western in May, with Susan Sarandon, Billy Bob Thornton, Richard Dreyfuss [and] Bruce Dern," he said. "It's called 'The Big Valley,' which was a [television] series in the '60s, and so it's sort of based on that." Read More...
