Story: Republic forces led by General Obi-Wan Kenobi are stuck in a standoff with a superior Separatist blockade force in orbit above the planet Christophsis. Senator Bail Organa directs friendlies on the ground, but without key supplies from the Republic fleet, it is only a matter of time before the planet is lost. General Anakin Skywalker and Admiral Yularen set out on a supply mission aboard a prototype Republic frigate equipped with cloaking technology. But when the brash, young Jedi Knight realizes that the enemy general is more cunning than your average Separatist battle droid he concocts a plan to go on the offensive... much to his master's chagrin.
Running Silent: "Cat and Mouse" features shades of "The Hunt for Red October" and other submarine battle flicks. The cloaking ship, with it's elongated body and cramped interiors, even resembles a submarine. Anakin takes the fight to Admiral Trench, the multi-armed, spider-like Harch leader of the Separatist forces, popping in and out of stealth mode to keep the pressure on. The tension never quite builds to "Red October" levels, but the comparison is easy to draw and it helps make for a fun outing.
Blink And You Miss It: Admiral Trench is a cool new character to introduce, a veteran Separatist general with a long record of successful engagements. Too bad this first appearance is also his last; Trench is obliterated by Anakin's torpedo-leading tactic in the final moments.
Like Father, Like Daughter: The Organa family is strong in the one-liners. Like his adopted daughter Leia will do decades later, Bail Organa beseeches Obi-Wan for assistance in a holo-transmission. "Help us, General Kenobi. You're our only hope." Just try to stop a fanboy cackle from escaping when you hear that line uttered by a hunched-over, holographic Organa.
Stepping Up: After last week's clunker, "Cat and Mouse" once again proves why "Clone Wars" is worth the time for any "Star Wars" fan. The adventure is a good time, its influences are clear and the writing is much, much stronger than it was last week.
No Disintegrations: In case you missed it, the upcoming, season-ending arc of "Clone Wars" episodes will be the first to feature a young Boba Fett. We don't know a whole lot about the three-episode arc just yet, but you can get your first glimpse of Boba right here, standing with Bossk, another well-known "Star Wars" bounty hunter:
