There's admittedly not much news to report here, but it's about as first-hand as sourcing gets. Ian McKellen, who of course plays Gandalf in "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy and in the upcoming two-part telling of "The Hobbit," knows all sorts of things that we don't. Like the hidden secrets of "The Hobbit" script. And, hell, the script itself.
In the first news update of the year on McKellen's official website, the actor does share one interesting fact about "The Hobbit": shooting kicks off in New Zealand in June, and it will take more than a year. A few more tidbits: the script isn't finished but it "proceeds," casting is happening now in New York, Los Angeles and London, and the story will feature "old and new friends."
Also, director Guillermo del Toro is living in New Zealand now.
