Whenever I think of "The Three Musketeers," I hear in my head the 1993 ballad "All For Love." That song, written by Bryan Adams and sung by Adams, Rod Stewart and Sting, was part of Disney's plan to bring Alexandre Dumas' classic tale of 17th century bodyguard buddies to the MTV generation. Another way of updating the story for a hip, young audience was to cast hot actors like Kiefer Sutherland and Charlie Sheen as the legendary heroes in order to make the film like a "Young Guns" for the swashbuckling genre.

17 years later, I wonder what it will take for Hollywood to translate Dumas for the kids, many of whom may think a movie titled "The Three Musketeers" is based on a candy bar (movies are based on all kinds of things these days, after all). One of the people who wants to give it a try is producer Lionel Wigram, who just did the same kind of thing with "Sherlock Holmes." According to Variety, Wigram is tailoring a new version of "Musketeers" for a young audience by focusing on action and sex. Read more...

FROM MTV.COM: It's something Harry Potter has blazed the trail for, "Twilight" fans have suspected for quite some time and several of the franchise's stars seem eager about. Now, it seems, the word may finally be official: "Breaking Dawn" will be split into two movies.

The news was reported Thursday (February 11) by Deadline Hollywood, although it should be pointed out that many news outlets have "announced" the same fact over the last few months, all apparently premature.

I'll admit that I've come around to "Parks & Recreation." I'm usually pretty slow to pick up on new TV -- unless "Star Wars" is in the title, that is -- so it's a credit to the quality of the show that it's grabbed me so quickly. A big part of that is Aziz Ansari, who you may know as Raaaaaaaaaaandy from "Funny People" or that guy who talks over Jay-Z's "Hate."

Well Ansari is also a regular Twitter user and a common appearance in many of Brian Warmoth's Twitter-Wood posts. Yesterday, Ansari gave the micro-blogging world a scoop in the form of a photo. MTV pal Andy Samberg has a guest appearance coming up on "Parks & Rec" as Park Ranger Carl, a name so benign that the character will probably be anything but. Especially since it's Samberg playing the role. We'll see soon enough. For now, content yourself with this sneak preview in today's Daily TwitPic. Read more...

Just a week shy of 10 years ago, an inventive little sci-fi flick slipped into theaters called "Pitch Black." The story focuses on a group of interstellar travelers who are marooned on a sun-baked planet after their passenger liner crash lands. The bulk of the story follows on their attempts to escape, but nothing in that movie stands out more than the character of Richard B. Riddick, played by Vin Diesel. Although he's framed as a notorious killer, Riddick won audiences over for his badass attitude and his narrow-yet-just outlook. It's not that he's an evil man; he just recognizes the realities of living in a hard universe.

The character was so popular that writer/director David Twohy conceived a spin-off, "The Chronicles of Riddick," which was meant to be a trilogy. Although it led to an exceptional video game, prequel "Escape from Butcher Bay," the first "Chronicles" failed to excite audiences in the way that "Pitch Black" did. Fans still got a deeper glimpse into the universe however, and they were left wanting when the story never continued. Until now, that is. Read more...

"Avatar" isn't first at the box office anymore, but it remains number one in the hearts of many. With all the excitement surrounding Pandora and its indigenous Na'vi population, is it any wonder that director James Cameron is already putting thought into how the sequel will play out?

Let's just hope that his fans leave him be. After all, his last movie was "Titanic," and that came out in 1997. There's a reason it took more than a decade for Cameron to climb back into the director's chair. He constantly had to field stupid pitches from his friends and fans. As you'll see in the video below, when Ben Stiller and Vince Vaughn corner him with a magical idea they've cooked up...

You might not realize it, but long before there was a “Zombieland” hit movie, there was nearly a “Zombieland” TV series. Writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick originally envisioned the reality of a post-apocalyptic, zombie-heavy world as ideal for the television medium, had a pilot script that ended when Wichita and Little Rock drove off and left Tallahassee and Columbus behind, and only expanded it after the networks passed. Now, the flick is on DVD, sequels are on the way – and the writers are determined to still make a “Zombieland” TV series.

“We wrote it as a TV show almost five years ago – the summer of 2005 - and sold it to CBS,” said Paul Wernick, who conceived the project with his writing partner Rhett Reese as the first-ever zombie TV show. “Ultimately, it just wasn’t the perfect fit at the right time for CBS, and they ended up not moving forward on it.” Read more...

While John Mayer has been busy apologizing on his own Twitter account for some controversial comments he made in a Playboy interview, opinions about his words have been sprouting up on other accounts throughout Twitter-Wood, in some cases prompting his defenders to defend themselves.

In more somber news, the reported suicide of designer Alexander McQueen sparked memorial tweets all over the place today, and I've got a few of those from Kirstie Alley, Tyra Banks and Kim Kardashian retweeted below. You can read those and find a picture from Ashton Kutcher en route to the London premier of "Valentine's Day," a shot of Andy Samberg on the "Parks and Recreation" set and some mighty excited exclation points from Brett Ratner after the jump in Twitter-Wood for February 11, 2010. There's no getting around it: Snake Plissken is a badass. It even says so in his contract. In John Carpenter's "Escape from New York," Kurt Russell put forth a truly memorable performance as the eyepatch-wearing former Army lieutenant charged with rescuing the U.S. President from the self-appointed Duke of New York (Isaac Hayes). So iconic was the role that the star of the coming remake is going to have his work cut out for him in matching it.

Fortunately, there are some very talented performers out there. Among them are a select few who possess the chops to strike the right balance between menacing badass and one-liner spouting... something. Who are they? Hit the jump and see for yourself. And click the image up top to check out our awesome image gallery of potential Plissken players. Read more...

Best-selling author Dennis Lehane will finally adapt one of his stories for the big screen himself, according to Variety. His name is familiar to movie audiences thanks to high-profile films based on his novels "Mystic River," "Gone Baby Gone" and the upcoming "Shutter Island," but he has not yet been a real part of the adaptation process. What got him to enter the world of screenwriting? A story about a dog.

Simply saying Lehane's short story "Animal Rescue" is about a dog might imply that it's more "Marley & Me" than one would expect from a writer who is synonymous with gritty Boston crime thrillers. And really, it's probably about as close to a mushy dog-lover's tale as "Amores Perros," the Alejandro Gonzales Inarritu anthology film centered on dark stories of dog fighting and homeless assassins. Late last year, after "2012" hit theaters, director Roland Emmerich had much to say about a spin-off TV series. The idea was to set it after the planet-demolishing events of the film, picking up as the human race worked to rebuild what was lost. The director even went as far as comparing the idea favorably with "Lost."

In a recent interview with MTV's Eric Ditzian, the filmmaker gave us the latest update on the status of his planned TV series. Things are not looking good, friends. As Emmerich himself said, "It's not gonna happen." Read more...
