Those of you readers with a love of film and access to BBC American might have caught the 2010 BAFTA -- British Academy of Film and Television Arts -- Awards yesterday. It's even possible that you read about the winners before seeing the ceremony, as the BBC-A broadcast aired a couple of hours after the live show.

The big winner of the evening was "The Hurt Locker," also one of this year's top-nominated Academy Awards contenders, alongside "Avatar." The Kathryn Bigelow-directed war story nabbed six awards, including Best Film, Best Director and Best Original Screenplay. Meanwhile, "Avatar" only picked up two technical awards, for Best Production Design and Best Visual Effects.

The other surprise of the evening was "Twilight" star Kristen Stewart, who picked up the Orange Rising Star Award, which is bestowed by public vote. Duncan Jones' "Moon" also finally got some accolades, scoring the award for Outstanding Debut by a British Writer, Director or Producer. Hit the jump for the full list of winners. Read More...

Title: "Gravedancing"

Story: "Caprica" returns after a one-week hiatus with the highly anticipated Daniel Graystone appearance on Baxter Sarno's popular talk show. Ever since Daniel's wife Amanda raised the specter of their dead daughter's possible involvement in the MAGLEV train bombing, the family has had to contend with the public outcry against Zoe and the Graystone-created Holoband technology, which Sarno believes is a corruptive influence on the Twelve Colonies' society. Meanwhile, Joseph Adama has second thoughts about his plot to balance out his own family tragedy by having Amanda killed while GDD Agent Duram finally secures the search warrants necessary to search Zoe Graystone's home and school. There's also some further development with Lacy's promise to get to Geminon and Zoe-bot's blossoming friendship with the lonely Cylon tech. Read More...

A few days ago, "Up in the Air" author Walter Kirn was convinced he'd been passed over for an invitation to the Academy Awards. It appears there is a happy ending to the story after all, though, as Paramount eventually came through, according to his tweets last night.

Today, meanwhile, Tiger Woods took the spotlight to apologize for his own oversights and mistakes. Most of Twitter-Wood had opinions to express, but I handpicked Gilbert Gottfried to speak for the crowd. Check out those retweets after the jump, along with an Ashton Kutcher tattoo, Tim Curry and Christopher Mintz-Plasse's reaction to "Valentine's Day." It's in Twitter-Wood for February 19, 2010. This weekend, two action icons will appear in a decidedly action-free setting. Ewan McGregor and Pierce Brosnan in Roman Polanski's latest, "The Ghost Writer." Obi-Wan Kenobi and James Bond. Neat, right?

What's even cooler is that MTV's Josh Horowitz got to sit down with the duo last week. And amidst his terror-inducing Jar Jar Binks impression, Josh managed to squeeze in a question about how playing such iconic figures continues to impact their respective careers. Brosnan didn't have a response, but McGregor did.

"For me, I made three 'Star Wars' films and they were always a film I was making at the time," he said. "I think there's an idea that you belong to 'Star Wars,' you belong to [George] Lucas for nine years, and it's just quite simply not the case. I spent three months working on the first film, and then three years later I spent three months working on the second and three years later I worked three months on the third. And I was happy to go back into them each time." Read More...

Now that the candy is gone and the flowers have wilted, Promo Police is going to spread a little love by sparing you from suffering through unwarranted advertising.

Just picture a heart-shaped box of chocolates, but with the following inside instead: “The Crazies,” “Defendor,” “The Killer Inside Me,” “Kick-Ass,” “Despicable Me,” “Cop Out,” “Wall Street 2” and “Why Did I Get Married Too.” Now, imagine the beauty of not having to sift through that box blindly and bite into something that’s filled with something unexpectedly awful. Lemon buttercream, perhaps? The force has mapped out the sweet and the bitter, for your promo pleasure. Read More...

It maybe wasn't a landmark work of filmmaking, but last summer's "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" was one helluva good time. Fans of the cartoon series were left wanting, but in a good way. The "Rise of Cobra" title should be taken quite literally; it's not until the end that the dastardly terrorist organization lays down its roots.

It was a smart move, setting up the sequel in this way. Serious "Joe" fans are already invested in the follow-up, if only to see how Cobra is finally represented now that they're fully formed. And with that investment comes the questions. Which vehicles will we see? Which characters? MTV's Larry Carroll asked about one in particular -- really, two -- when he spoke to writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese a few weeks ago: Cobra twins Tomax and Xamot.

Oh yeah, well--" Reese said, catching himself before continuing, "... okay, maybe." Both writers then laugh. A little too hard. Interesting. Read More...

With "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time" -- the latest in a long string of video game adaptations -- coming this summer with a high-profile cast and director, it's only a matter of time before more of the most popular game franchises are whipped into Hollywood shape. Like "Halo." Or "Call of Duty." Or... "Missile Command"?!

That's right folks. Instead of adapting one of the games that break sales records and become household names, the powers that be in Hollywood are turning to a 30 year old Atari arcade game with a "plot" that's so simple, calling it high-concept is an understatement. Not that there's a problem with any of this. The whole "aliens bombing Earth's cities" pitch rarely disappoints the blockbuster junkies. Read More...

Back in the before-time, when Y2K was on everybody's lips and the threat of terrorism was a distant one, Matt Damon and Ben Affleck were unstoppable, childhood friends who, as we saw in "Dogma" and "Good Will Hunting," share great on-screen chemistry as well. Work took them in different directions as the millennium turned and, for years now, they've done their own thing.

Well that's all about to change. And in a delicious twist for Big Apple residents, the Boston boys will be wearing New York Yankees pinstripes. In the words of the great Nelson Muntz... "Haw haw!!!" NOTE: After the jump you'll find a complete, full-sized version of the above image! Read More...
