Nestor Carbonell is most recognizable as Richard Alpert on "Lost" and as the mayor of Gotham City in "The Dark Knight," but if some fans get their way, he might add another role to his increasingly geeky resume — none other than the villainous Khan in a possible "Star Trek" sequel.
Previously, director J.J. Abrams said that he's open to the idea of recasting the classic "Star Trek" villain in an upcoming sequel, and Carbonell has had his name thrown around for the part by many of his own supporters and "Star Trek" fans alike. When asked about the possibility, Carbonell said he'd be thrilled to play Khan.
"Well, it would be tremendous, it would be amazing," the actor told Movieline. "I know that ['Lost'] has already opened many doors for me, and that's the great thing about this business, that you never know which job you do will help you out with other jobs. This show has given me and my family so much, so if that were to happen, it would be tremendous."
Carbonell is well known for his distinct eyelashes, but the character of Khan is better known for his comically massive pecs — something that the "Lost" star said he could live up to.
"Listen, all modesty aside, I'm pretty shredded right now," he laughed. "Richard may not get to flex his muscles, but he's not averse to taking off his shirt. Should it happen, the fans will know."
While Carbonell wouldn't confirm or deny an upcoming shirtless scene on "Lost," he did say that his character will have a flashback episode in the currently airing final season.
"I obviously can't go into detail as to the nature of the episode, but the writers delivered a script I was really blown away by," he said. "I've been wondering for three and a half years who my guy is, and I've been writing my own history to justify what I did; when I finally got it, I realized how off the mark I was, but I was really blown away. It'll come in at the midpart of the season, and it'll answer not just questions about the big origin of my character but really also the mythology and the real nature of the island. It's a big reveal, and it wildly exceeded my expectations."
