The final season of "Lost" premieres tomorrow, one of the biggest TV events of the year, and we'll be live blogging it. Before that happens though, I still have a bit of content to psych you up for the festivities.
One of the things that's kept the 'trapped on a tropical island' setup of "Lost" feeling fresh for all these years is the constant influx of new characters. Even while we fans struggle to answer the myriad number of questions raised in each episode, our attention is held because there's always some newcomer appearing with a few more pieces of the proverbial puzzle. As we head into the last leg, one of the big questions is what the new blood will bring to the table in this, the final season?
"There will be probably some new faces, but not in the way that we've done in past seasons where they were coming in as entirely new regulars," "Lost" co-creator Damon Lindelof said in an interview with MTV.
"I think that the last dose of new characters came on the freighter, Faraday and Charlotte and Miles. Now that we're in the endgame, it feels like to introduce someone now, it's a little bit too little, too late."
That doesn't mean there won't be any new arrivals. Obviously the term "recurring character" takes on a new meaning when there are only a finite number of episodes left in the story. Still, the final season of "Lost" won't be all familiar faces. It's just that any newcomers will be there to serve the story.
"There are a couple characters that we need to meet in order to tell the story that we're telling, but... the focus is going to be mostly on the characters that the audience is already familiar with," Lindelof said. "We're going to be exploring them hopefully in a way that feels fresh and interesting, different from what we've done with them before."
What are your hopes and wishes for the final season of "Lost"? What might Lindelof mean when he says we'll be seeing these familiar characters in "fresh and interesting" ways?
