FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Have Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning abandoned their movie careers for rock-star living? Well, probably not but on Saturday night, the stars of "The Runways" joined Joan Jett onstage at a Sundance Film Festival party.

According to People, when Joan Jett & The Blackhearts hit the stage at Harry O's, where the band was there to party alongside the actresses and director Floria Sigismondi, who helmed the film about Joan's '70s band. Joan, dressed in one-piece sequined leotard and sneakers, invited Kristen (who plays Joan) and Dakota (who plays Runaways bandmate Cherie Currie) to join her.

Is this the week that "Avatar" falls? I'm guessing no, but stranger things have happened. For six straight weeks, James Cameron's sci-fi marvel has captivated viewers with its entertaining story and impressive underlying 3-D tech. The movie is all but guaranteed to crush the all-time box office records held by "Titanic," Cameron's last feature, since 1997. Even if another #1 weekend isn't in the cards, those records are pretty much toast.

The closest competition "Avatar" has is "Edge of Darkness," which threatens to draw some of the Cameron crowd away purely for being the only new, R-rated release this week with fanperson-friendly subject matter. Mel Gibson stars as a homicide detective who uncovers evidence of corporate and government corruption in the course of a murder investigation. Read More...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: In April of last year, it was announced that actress Kate Mara was joining the cast of "Iron Man 2," but details beyond that initial revelation were entirely up in the air. Speculation ran rampant that she'd play an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. alongside Samuel L. Jackson's role of Nick Fury or perhaps even Bethany Cabe, a girlfriend and ally of Tony Stark's in the comic books.

With the cat still in the bag regarding Mara's role, MTV News couldn't help but ask the actress about her specific involvement in the "Iron Man" sequel during an interview at the Sundance Film Festival this weekend. According to the actress, rumors that she'll play Bethany Cabe are entirely untrue.

While he's certainly best known for his roles in front of the camera, Ben Affleck is building quite the career behind the lens as well. In addition to recent starring roles in "State of Play" and "The Company Men," Affleck has also taken a stab at directing with 2007's "Gone Baby Gone" and the upcoming "The Town," which is currently in post-production.

But make no mistake — talented though he may be, Affleck's work as a director is anything but easy. During the Sundance Film Festival, Affleck told MTV News that he has a tendency to get emotional while directing movies. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: It was something of a déjà vu evening at the 16th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards on Saturday evening (January 23). Most winners were repeats from the prior weekend's Golden Globe Awards, with both Jeff Bridges and Sandra Bullock again honored for their lead performances in "Crazy Heart" and "The Blind Side," respectively.

Bullock, who at one point was considered a long shot for any major awards, seemed stunned when her name was called. Upon arriving at the microphone, she admitted to wishing the show wasn't being aired live so she could express her surprise properly in words unfit for television.

In the midst of the 2010 Sundance and Slamdance film festivals we've got good news regarding a film that premiered in Park City last year. Jordan Galland's vampire movie "Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Undead," which has been described as a cross between Terry Gilliam, Woody Allen and "Buffy the Vampire Slayer," has finally been picked up for distribution, according to Variety. Indican Pictures scored the rights, and currently plans to release the comedy in theaters on April 16 of this year.

I'm surprised it's taken this long for the movie, which takes its name from the Tom Stoppard play "Rosencrantz & Guildenstern Are Dead," to be acquired. When we debuted a clip from the film a year ago, "Rosencrantz" had some great buzz around it. And in the 12 months since, it has amused audiences at other film fests, such as Dallas, Hollywood and Stony Brook. Plus, it's a movie about vampires, which I'm sure you've heard are hot right now thanks to "Twilight" and "True Blood." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: As of Monday morning (January 25), James Cameron's "Avatar" is now the top-grossing international release of all time. Following the weekend's ticket sales, the sprawling sci-fi epic slipped past Cameron's 1997 hit "Titanic" in overseas earnings (not including North America), with $1.288 billion compared to the doomed cruise ship's $1.242 billion, Reuters reported.

For six weeks now, ever since it was released in theaters on December 18, "Avatar" has ruled the box office. Described in pre-release propaganda as a "game-changer" for Hollywood, the spectacle-driven 3-D adventure is certainly living up to expectations. It picked up Golden Globes for Best Picture/Drama and Best Director, and it has now officially begun the process of sinking Cameron's 1997 hit, "Titanic."

I'm very excited to be able to share this clip with you today. This Friday on "Star Wars: The Clone Wars," a three episode arc kicks off focusing on the Mandalorian people and their homeworld of Mandalore. The word might be unfamiliar to you, but the people are not: Boba Fett and his dear, old dad Jango are both of Mandalorian descent, right down to the armor.

In the clip below we see the armored Pre Vizsla negotiating with Count Dooku (Christopher Lee) plotting against a Mandalorian noble. What's interesting to an Expanded Universe junkie like me are the references to the "Death Watch," a splinter group of Mando insurgents who employ terrorist actions in promoting their agenda of returning the Mandalorian culture to the warrior raiders that they once were.

Look out for our interview with "Clone Wars" supervising director Dave Filoni this week. For now, just hit the jump to enjoy the backroom plottings of an armored Mando and a Sith Lord. Read More...

Frankie Muniz is one of our Twitter-Wood regulars. The former "Malcolm in the Middle" star hasn't been terribly busy as an actor recently, having taken a hiatus in 2007 to pursue his career as a race car driver. He's alive and well on his Twitter feed though, though not to the point of chronically oversharing like some of his colleagues.

Last Friday, Muniz posted a mournful tweet about a recently fallen friend. "Shaqtus," as he calls it. A cactus. A tall one too, presuming that name is more than just a clever twist on the word "cactus." The Daily TwitPic posted after the jump brings us a touching moment, when Muniz says goodbye to his lost friend. I'm not sure what took this particular cactus down -- perhaps old age -- but Muniz was broken up enough by it to tweet his final goodbye. Read More...
