FROM SPLASH PAGE: Earlier today we told you about Samuel L. Jackson's new comic book series, "Cold Space," but now we get back to the projects that are foremost on comics fans' minds: the Marvel movies in which he plays S.H.I.E.L.D. head honcho Nick Fury.

Since he's listed as part of the official cast of "Thor," Kenneth Branagh's upcoming take on Marvel's god of thunder, we had to ask how his character will fit into the film. Will Fury drop by to recruit Thor for the Avengers like he did in "Iron Man"?

We'd love to tell you Jackson gave us the full scoop, but apparently he didn't know he was even in the film until he read the news. However, he did have some opinions to offer on Fury's relationship to Thor and how much of the character we'll see in Marvel's future movies.

It's good to be a movies reporter on days like this. You all know "Weird Al" Yankovic, right? The polka-loving spoofsmith famous for recording such hit knockoff songs as "Eat It" (to the tune of Michael Jackson's "Beat It"), "Like a Surgeon" (to the tune of Madonna's "Like a Virgin") and "Smells Like Nirvana" (to the tune of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit"). He also starred in a movie, the hilarious 1989 comedy -- yes, hilarious -- "UHF."

Now, Yankovic has announced that he'll step behind the camera for his next flirtation with Hollywood, in an interview... with himself! In true oddball fashion, the comedian/singer posted a self-interview on his personal blog, running through his general plans for the project. Or it could just be one big joke. That is how Yankovic rolls, after all. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Much of the current "Green Lantern" speculation focuses on whether Hector Hammond or Sinestro will be the first film's central villain, but there's another question fans are asking these days, too: how much of the movie is set in space?

Given the intergalactic setting of the "Green Lantern" mythology, it's a virtual certainty that the upcoming DC Comics adaptation will spend some time amongst the stars, but just how much otherworldly screen time we'll see remains up in the air.

While the "Edge of Darkness" director didn't have an exact percentage of the balance between space scenes and earthbound events, director Martin Campbell told MTV News that there would be plenty of action spent outside of Earth's orbit.

With "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides" gearing up for production with director Rob Marshall at the helm and Johnny Depp once again assuming Captain Jack Sparrow's off-kilter persona, some have wondered whether or not the other stars of the franchise are on board for the fourth installment.

During the Sundance Film Festival, MTV News caught up with actor Orlando Bloom and put that very question to him — but according to the actor, his days as Will Turner are over. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Box-office bean counters haven't had much time to sleep in the six weeks since the release of James Cameron's epic "Avatar." The potent combination of effusive word of mouth and critical praise helped the film glide right past "The Dark Knight" this past weekend to capture the #2 spot — behind Cameron's "Titanic" — on the list of all-time top-grossing domestic releases.

So who's driving these intergalactic numbers? While casual moviegoers certainly play a huge role, "Avatar" junkies make "Titanic" devotees look like a regional fan club. And these are by no means closet cases: Coaxing Pandoraholics to dish about the movie's merits requires as much prodding as asking Lady Gaga fans why they love her.

Spoilers ahead. "Fringe" fans no longer need to worry over Leonard Nimoy's potential departure from the show. Not only will the actor reprise his role as the enigmatic Doctor William Bell, he'll also return in the best way possible — directly opposite Walter Bishop (John Noble).

According to Entertainment Weekly, Nimoy's character is set to return for May's second season finale of "Fringe," where he'll square off against the quirky but troubled Doctor Bishop.

"William and Walter will finally face off in the finale," said Akiva Goldsman, who will direct the two-part season finale. "These [characters] have so much that they're bringing to bear. And Leonard and John are two fantastic actors." Read More...

These are always strange mornings. Our Daily TwitPic usually comes from some Hollywood insider. Kim Kardashian certainly spends plenty of time in Tinseltown, but she's more of a celebutante. Not a figure who generally falls into the wheelhouse of MTV Movies Blog coverage. She's a regular contributor to our Twitter-Wood feed however, and today's pic is a very timely one.

In the NFC Championship on Sunday, the Saints claimed victory over the Minnesota Vikings in an overtime win, one that will send the New Orleans team along to the Super Bowl. It's an important moment for the Saints, as this will be their first Super Bowl. And Kardashian, a fan, was on hand to show her support for the team. You can see her caught up in the post-win revelry after the jump. Read More...

It's Day 6 for us at Sundance, and while the nights of little sleep and bass-thumping after-parties are adding up, our enthusiasm to attack everything this festival has to offer does not wane. How can it when we have such a stellar schedule ahead of us?

Today's interviews include Diego Luna ("Abel), Julianne Moore and Mia Wasikowska ("The Kids Are All Right"), Katie Holmes, Malin Akerman, Elijah Wood and Adam Brody ("The Romantics"), the guys from Animal Collective ("Oddsac") and more.

When it comes to sitting down in front of the big screen, we're looking to take in Jesse Eisenberg's "Holy Rollers," Katie Holmes' "The Romantics" and a handful of other flicks we haven't yet had the pleasure of viewing. Throughout the day we'll be rolling out our Sundance content all over MTV News. So keep checking back for the very latest and the very greatest from this year's fest.

In a little less than two months, "New Moon" hits DVD and Blu-ray. March 20, to be precise. You won't have to line up that day, however. Not in this age of online retail and pre-orders.

As of this morning, Amazon is offering "New Moon" for pre-order at a price of $21.99 for the two-disc special edition DVD and $24.99 for the Blu-ray. A number of bonus features are listed on the special edition DVD page, though I wonder if it is a complete list. You'll get an audio commentary with director Chris Weitz and editor Peter Lamber, an hour-long, six-part behind-the-scenes documentary, Muse rehearsal footage and music videos from Death Cab for Cutie, Anya Maria and Mute Math. That's a decent helping of content, but it seems a little light for two discs, no? Perhaps we can find some clues elsewhere... Read More...

Don't fret Paramount... this is for the best. Last week, it was reported that "Saw VI" director Kevin Greutert had been hired to helm the unasked-for sequel to last year's found footage sensation, "Paranormal Activity." Whether or not you think a sequel is really necessary, Greutert's past experience with the gore-soaked "Saw" franchise would not seem to make him the ideal candidate for following up one of the most effectively understated horror films released in years.

It is with some relief then that I greet today's news of Greutert being shuffled back to the "Saw" franchise, to which Lionsgate and Twisted Pictures hold the keys. It seems that the director is contractually bound to direct "Saw VII 3-D" if the studio wants it, and they do, Deadline Hollywood reports. Greutert is unable to do both because of competing release plans, which have the two movies releasing on October 22 of this year. Read More...
