The upcoming “A-Team” movie is interesting because it's four stars enjoy different kinds of fame. You’ve got the respected veteran actor (Liam Neeson), the post-hype guy hoping to prove his recent blockbuster was no fluke (Bradley Cooper), the we-know-nothing-about-him-but-want-to-know-more up-and-comer (Sharlto Copley) and the non-actor whose fame was born outside of Hollywood, an “And introducing...” rookie whose career could take off (Quinton “Rampage” Jackson). Now, one of these guys might follow up the summer '10 TV adaptation by immediately re-teaming with director Joe Carnahan.

“There’s a thing I’m gonna do next called ‘The Grey, and I think there’s a very good chance that one of the members of this cast will do this film with me,” the “Smokin’ Aces” filmmaker revealed when we spoke to him recently about being one of our “10 to Watch in ‘10” selections. “We’ll be doing it soon.” Read more...

Last summer, just as "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" was arriving in theaters, news emerged that director Michael Bay would produce and maybe direct an adaptation of the James Frey/Joby Hughes young adult novel "I Am Number Four," the first in a series of six planned books about an alien in hiding on Earth -- Ohio, to be precise -- while forces unknown hunt him.

Two months later, it was revealed that Al Gough and Miles Millar, creators of TV's "Smallville," had been hired to adapt the book into a usable script. The latest word is that Bay won't be directing; if I had to guess, it's because he's busy with the next "Transformers" movie. D.J. Caruso will step in to take the reins instead, The Hollywood Reporter reveals. Read more...

There are five months left until “The A-Team” hits theaters, and director Joe Carnahan has wrapped principal production. But for anyone out there who thinks Mr. T won’t be making a cameo in the flick, well, we pity the fool.

“There’s still a discussion about T,” the “Smokin’ Aces” filmmaker revealed to us recently during an interview for his “10 to Watch in 2010” profile. “We would love to get [Mr. T] in this film somewhere. He’s such a personality.”

Growing up, my friends and I always loved Mr. T because he was an energetic, larger-than-life, and somewhat off-the-wall character. Those same traits are why fans still love the strongman at age 57 –- and the reason why he has steadfastly refused to do an “A-Team” cameo ever since breaking the news with us nearly 3 years ago. Peter Jackson was betting on black when he decided to adapt the complex supernatural novel, "The Lovely Bones." Thankfully for him, it seems to have impressed moviegoers. We set upon a local theater to hear from the people themselves, and returned with the following video.

"The Lovely Bones" is in theaters now.

Sunday's night's Golden Globe winners woke up on Monday and immediately began sharing their exploits from evening. Jason Reitman, had plenty to celebrate, considering he won a "Best Screenplay" trophy and "Up in the Air" got nominated in five other categories. He tweeted a shot with Mike Tyson from the ceremony, as did Eli Roth and Lake Bell side by side with their own entourage members.

In other tweets, Jodelle Ferland's Stephenie Meyer reading hasn't stopped with the "Twilight" series. She just finished "The Host" and wants to find more. Her "Eclipse" co-star Tinsel Korey, meanwhile, name-checked the "Boondocks" animated series as one her favorite ways to spend her free time. Check out those posts along with Jon Hurwitz's hopes for Conan O'Brien and what Ice-T and his wife look like when they play "Army of Two." It's all in Twitter-Wood for January 19, 2010. Read more...

This week brings an interesting clash between wide and limited releases. For example, Paul Bettany stars in both a studio and an independent release. And the former involves a religious figure, the archangel Michael, and the Biblical Apocalypse, while the latter involves a scientist whose work has long been in conflict with religious teachings. Surely the two films would make for a great double feature.

Or, maybe you'd like to pair up another one of this week's wide releases with another one of its limited releases. A studio film starring Harrison Ford and Brendan Fraser attempting to save kids' lives through medicine with a low-budget film about saving kids' lives through friendship. A lowbrow studio film starring Dwayne Johnson as an imaginary creature with a highbrow foreign film about an imagined crime?

If only these three films were opening everywhere this weekend so everyone could enjoy such wacky match-ups. Read more...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: With all this talk about the "Spider-Man" reboot and "Green Lantern" casting, it's easy to forget that another big comic book movie, Kenneth Branagh's "Thor," just kicked off production.

We caught up with Branagh at the Golden Globe Awards red carpet to get an update on how the live-action adventures of Marvel's god of thunder are going thus far.

"We just started last week and so far, so good," Branagh told MTV News.

Ricky Gervais in 'The Invention of Lying'Given the amount of plugs, if you found yourself watching the Golden Globes on Sunday then you'd know that host Ricky Gervais' comedy "The Invention of Lying" was coming to home video today. The film places Gervais in an alternate reality where everyone always tells the truth, giving him a considerable edge when he becomes the first person in the world "invent" the concept of fibbing. The rom-com comes to DVD and Blu-ray with a few extras including a making-of featurette, deleted scenes, and a mini-doc following Karl Pilkington from Gervais' wildly popular podcast series. It's rather odd that a commentary track isn't one of the extras; you'd think it'd be a natural addition given Gervais also co-wrote the pic. But alas...

On the action side, we have Gerard Butler's "Gamer," which is basically a cross between "Gladiator" and "The Running Man." The film takes place in a dystopian future where nerds control beefy human avatars in a massively multiplayer online game. The film performed modestly at the box office, and comes to DVD and Blu-ray with a considerable amount of extras. Those include a feature-length commentary track, a three-part behind-the-scenes doc about the making of the film, and an interesting (for tech hounds) look at the groundbreaking digital RedOne camera used for the flick. FROM MTV.COM: You can cross one name off the list of potential "Spider-Man" directors, because James Cameron isn't interested.

Speaking with MTV News at the Critics Choice Awards red carpet, the "Avatar" director denied rumors that he was in the running to direct Sony's next "Spider-Man" movie and kick off a brand new franchise for the Marvel Comics superhero.

"No, no," Cameron told MTV News when asked if he'd been approached for the "Spider-Man" job. "It's a little bit sloppy seconds, let's face it."

James Cameron has already told us that the deleted sex scene in "Avatar"—with its promise of intertwining tendrils and ripples of alien-induced ecstasy—is rather less tantalizing than we might have been led to believe. "I think it's one of those cases where the fantasy vastly exceeds the reality," the director told us last week at the Critics' Choice Movie Awards.

So while the big blue alien bang session between Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) and Neytiri (Zoe Saldana) may only be five or ten seconds long, Saldana is still eager for the viewing public to check it out.

"It's worth it," she said at Critics' Choice, "especially now we're living in a time where there's not enough affection and sexuality in movies. I miss the '80s!" Read more...
