Early in December, word buzzed around that "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus" director Terry Gilliam was eying Robert Duvall to star in his next effort, the long, long-awaited "The Man Who Killed Don Quixote." Johnny Depp was set to star in Gilliam's first ill-fated attempt at telling the tale, and he's been an on-again, off-again contender to join the cast of the filmmaker's latest attempt for some time.
Now the director is saying that Depp is definitely out, Duvall is definitely in and another, as-yet-unnamed actor is also in talks to join the cast -- no one "A-prime," as Gilliam says (via The Playlist). Read more...

I know all of you Twilighters are jazzed about seeing Kristen Stewart step into the shoes of Joan Jett in band biopic "The Runaways." You already got your first taste, compliments of the debut teaser trailer. Here's a brand-new look, the scene in which Jett and bandmate Cherie Currie (Dakota Fanning) meet for the first time, by way of producer and band co-founder Kim Fowley (Michael Shannon). Enjoy!

Scott Brown's win in the race for Ted Kennedy's U.S. Senate seat in Massachusetts drew varying reactions in Twitter-Wood today. Rainn Wilson gave the election results a thumbs down. Candace Cameron gave them a thumbs up. And David Pressman thinks that Scott Brown is sexy.
In non-political controversial discussion, the recent rainstorms hitting Los Angeles have provoked predictable commentary on how residents there have no idea how to drive. Since rain in L.A. is so rare, many drivers have problems staying in control on wet Hollywood pavement. Nathan Fillon says Stan Lee is not one of them, however. Check out those tweets after the jump where you can also find out what John Lithgow had to say about his "Dexter" co-star Michael C. Hall and who Chris Rock mistook Elizabeth Banks for last night. It's all in Twitter-Wood for January 20, 2010. Read more...

Show of (virtual) hands: who here saw "Sexy Beast"? It's a fun, clever tale about a retired gangster who is drawn back into the underworld by a very tempting offer. Only everything goes to crap and our poor gangster ends up with more headache than bonus retirement funds.
I'm mentioning "Sexy Beast" today because its writers, Louis Mellis and David Scinto, are back with the just-released "44 Inch Chest." Ray Winstone, star of "Sexy," headlines the story, a jealous husband who kidnaps and tortures his wife's lover. In our exclusive clip below, you can see Winstone introducing himself to his kidnappee in grand fashion, with a flowery explanation of what love means. It's both touching and disturbing. Enjoy.

We spoke to "Nine" director Rob Marshall a couple of times towards the end of last year. He'll be the one helming "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," which everyone has questions about. Will it be a 3-D release? Where will the story pick up? Will stars Orlando Bloom or Keira Knightley return? How about Johnny Depp?
That last question seems to be the most prevalent one in the minds of fans. Fortunately, MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to Marshall on the Golden Globe Awards red carpet and he got some of the first definitive answers on the subject of Depp and the fourth "Pirates" movie.
"We've now started, officially," he revealed. "I'm talking to Johnny and it's been great. I've been working already. I'm spending a lot of time with [producer] Jerry Bruckheimer. Learning this whole adventure of this... different genre for me, which I feel so at home [with] already." Read more...

Simon Pegg made headlines last year when stepped up to star in "Thriller" director John Landis' "Burke and Hare." The dark comedy about a couple of murderous 19th century grave robbers later grabbed former "Doctor Who" leading man David Tennant to appear next to Pegg in one of the title roles. Now, Tennant appears to have cancelled, but Landis has instead managed to cast frequent Peter Jackson collaborator Andy Serkis.
"David Tennant had to drop out of 'B&H' but by sheer glorious serendipity a legend of Middle Earth and Skull Island has come aboard. Welcome AS," Simon Pegg wrote on this Twitter account today. Read more...

Sundance contender "The Freebie" serves up the happy couple of Darren (Dax Shepard) and Annie (Katie Aselton). They've been living in married bliss for seven years when a series of events lead them to consider the possibility of trying something new and different to keep things exciting: each gets one "free" night of sex with a complete stranger. Sounds like a recipe for relationship disaster to me.
In the exclusive clip below, Shepard's Darren goes on at length about his views on relationships during a dinner party, one of the events that lead the couple to set up their agreed-upon one-night-stands.

The news emerged in early January that "Avatar" director James Cameron optioned a World War II-set nonfiction novel. "The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back" casts a spotlight on survivors of the atomic bombings at Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan, with a particular focus on survivors of both blasts. Beyond that, we don't know much. Until now, thanks to Cameron's chat with MTV's Josh Horowitz on the red carpet at last weekend's Golden Globe Awards.
"I've been wokring on a hiroshima concept for a long time," he said. "I recently optioned ["The Last Train From Hiroshima: The Survivors Look Back"] that's actually about survivors of both the Hiroshima bombing and the Nagasaki bombing." Read more...

Ryan Gosling fans haven't had much to get excited about lately. The "Notebook" star hasn't been seen on the big screen since 2007, in "Lars and the Real Girl." Well you'll see him again soon enough, especially if you're out at the Sundance Film Festival over the next week. Gosling will star with Michelle Williams in the sure-to-please-the-ladies romance flick "Blue Valentine."
The story follows Gosling and Williams as a married couple. In a bid to save their troubled relationship, the pair take a trip to a theme hotel and attempt to relive their life together, from their first meeting to the problems that plague them today. In the exclusive clip below, Gosling demonstrates in grand fashion that he's unhappy and wants some answers. But how far will he go?

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.
"Josie and the Pussycats" is one smart teen flick. It's funny and hip and sherbet-colored and all at the same time finds a way to mock the music industry. Plus, it has Parker Posey in it— which by many accounts tends to be a winning casting decision. Read more...
