In a little less than two months, "New Moon" hits DVD and Blu-ray. March 20, to be precise. You won't have to line up that day, however. Not in this age of online retail and pre-orders.
As of this morning, Amazon is offering "New Moon" for pre-order at a price of $21.99 for the two-disc special edition DVD and $24.99 for the Blu-ray. A number of bonus features are listed on the special edition DVD page, though I wonder if it is a complete list. You'll get an audio commentary with director Chris Weitz and editor Peter Lamber, an hour-long, six-part behind-the-scenes documentary, Muse rehearsal footage and music videos from Death Cab for Cutie, Anya Maria and Mute Math. That's a decent helping of content, but it seems a little light for two discs, no? Perhaps we can find some clues elsewhere...
Weitz has previously mentioned that fans can expect to see deleted scenes on the home video release of "New Moon." Late last week, the details of a three-disc Scandinavian special edition emerged, called "Bella's Box Set."
In addition to the previously mentioned content, the second disc in the set will also include three featurettes -- Becoming Jacob(6 min), Introducing the Wolf Pack (9 min), Shooting in Italy (7 min) -- and roughly a half-hour's worth of extended scenes. Then there's the third disc, which adds another 15 minutes of deleted scenes and six more featurettes: Edward Fast Forward (30 min), Jacob Fast Forward (33 min), Interview with the Volturi(12 min), Fandimonium(7 min), The Beat Goes On: The Music of New Moon (5 min) and Frame by Frame: Storyboards to Screen (15-20 min). Remember: only one home video version of "New Moon" has been announced for U.S. release. We could certainly see the three-disc edition come here -- and we likely will, I expect -- but there's been no official announcement from Summit in that regard.
The Scandinavian order page plainly states that box art and extras are not complete and not verified, as NewMoonMovie.org notes. That said, the list on the page had to come from somewhere. I wouldn't expect it to shrink-- if anything, it will grow larger. Needless to say, "Twilight" fans have much to look forward to this March.
Will you buy "New Moon" on DVD or Blu-ray when it comes out? Will you import the Scandinavian edition and buy an all-region DVD player to watch it on? Do you think the three-disc edition will come out here? In March, or further out?
