Have you heard the news? British funnyman Ricky Gervais -- creator and star of the original "The Office" -- is setting his sights on Dunder-Mifflin. At least, that's according to some reports. But Gervais had always denied that his David Brent character (the original Michael Scott) would make an appearance on the hit American version, so who should we believe?
We posed that very question to John Krasinski on the Critics' Choice Awards red carpet, and if the actor knew anything, he was doing a pretty good job of hiding it.
"I think there was talk of them [Gervais and co-creator Stephen Merchant] writing and directing an episode. I don't think he's talking about being in the episode quite yet," Krasinski stated.
The star attributed the rumor to Gervais' dry sense of humor, saying "I think that was a joke that he's been doing for a while, and now if its becoming true I'm the last to know."
Then again, according to Krasinski, his track record of knowing guest stars isn't the best. "I was also the last to know about Idris Elba being on our show until I walked on set and realized that ["The Wire" character] Stringer Bell was on stage. I did pee myself a little."
So what say you, folks? Do you think David Brent will cross the pond?
