There are two nearly universal facts when it comes to filmmaker David Cronenberg, the man who birthed the likes of "The Fly" and "Videodrome" into the world. The first is that, when watching one of his films, you will shift uncomfortably in your seat at least once from something that happens on the screen. And number two? You'll always walk away with something to think about.

Cronenberg is a talented filmmaker, and a smart one. Despite his flirtations with the avant-garde, he has nonetheless remained firmly entrenched in the mainstream consciousness with efforts like "Eastern Promises" and "A History of Violence." His next project has been something of a question mark for awhile. Spy thriller "The Matarese Circle" went away after Tom Cruise dropped out to do "Knight & Day." And there's been no news at all on his plans to adapt Don DeLillo's "Cosmopolis." It's looking like his next effort won't be either of those, and that's he's already got some of his cast in place. FROM SPLASH PAGE: Back in September, it was announced that the secret comic book movie project that "Sherlock Holmes" director Guy Ritchie has been circling was not in fact, "Sgt. Rock," as many had suspected. Instead of directing a film about an American war hero, Ritchie would get behind the camera for "Lobo" — a movie based on the adventures of DC's violent, white-skinned alien bounty hunter.

However, the reports of Ritchie's attachment to the project could be a bit premature, as he told MTV News during the recent "Sherlock Holmes" junket in London.

"Is it a matter of fact that I'm doing it?" Ritchie asked when told of reports framing his participation in "Lobo" as a done deal. "I don't think it's a matter of fact. In fact, I can tell you it's not a matter of fact."

There's a new trailer up online for "Inception." Just one catch though: it's in French. Given how little we've seen of Chris Nolan's summer 2010 sci-fi adventure starring Leonardo DiCaprio, I'll take what I can get. It's not like anyone's been forthcoming about the plot. The visuals in this new trailer are damn cool however. Check it out, courtesy of MakingOf.

Sadly, the trailer has been pulled. We'll see it again soon I'm sure, and in English.

The outpouring of grief for Brittany Murphy, the "8 Mile" star who was tragically taken from us by a heart attack at the too-young age of 32, continues to flood the Internet. The majority of celebrities have chosen Twitter as the platform for sharing remembrances of their fallen friend. And I have to give a special shout-out to you commenters here; there's always the risk with the Internet that some random jerk is going to come along and say nasty things from the safety of their anonymity. The response to Murphy's death here however has been nothing but respectful and genuine, and I thank you all for that.

Today's Daily TwitPic comes from Alyssa Milano, by way of Twitter user @dustinpjones. At some point, Milano joined Murphy on a USO tour, to entertain the troops overseas. Hit the jump to see them both here having the time of their lives. Read More...

Brittany Murphy and "Avatar" look poised to dominated Twitter-Wood's thoughts this holiday week, even if most of the tweeters are leaving their offices to tweet from home and last-minute shopping expeditions right now. Alyssa Milano retweeted a photo taken when she and Murphy appeared on a USO tour together, reflecting on the time they spent there. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Banks, Samm Levine and David Spade all had different reactions to "Avatar" in 3D.

You can sort out what they had to say after the jump along with a former "Saved By the Bell" star's denial of drunken behavior, Kevin Smith's response to a tweeter about his wife's Playboy photos and former Karate Kid Ralph Macchio on whether or not he plans on coming back to "Ugly Betty." It's all retweeted in the Twitter-Wood report for December 22, 2009. Read More...

That's right Twilighters. I know you've been waiting patiently while James Cameron's sci-fi epic "Avatar" shoves "New Moon" down in the box office rankings (such is the way of things), but that doesn't mean things aren't percolating with Summit Entertainment on the "Twilight" front.

You might have seen this first image from "Eclipse" elsewhere, but it's now officially online for your viewing pleasure. It's not a terribly action-packed moment, but I'm sure it's enough to keep you on the edge of your seat for more. Look for that "more" to arrive soon enough, as the June 30, 2010 release date inches closer.

You know that, starting today, you can finally see the second installment in Seth McFarlane's "Star Wars" spoofs, "Family Guy: Something Something Something Dark Side," right? It's a home video release (Blu-ray/DVD), and it's hilarious stuff. Another great send-up of George Lucas's classic sci-fi franchise.

In this exclusive clip from the home video release's bonus features, you can see the parody poster artists, as well as original "Empire Strikes Back" poster artist Roger Kastel(!!!), discussing how the "Family Guy"-infused image came together. Look for the Blu-ray/DVD in stores today!

When we spoke to Quentin Tarantino a few weeks ago, he didn't really get specific about what he's doing next. He's still not being specific about what he's doing next, but a few new details have emerged concerning his future plans.

The "Inglourious Basterds" director sat down for a chat recently with Vulture, and they got to talking about what's next. Tarantino admitted that he actually has 40 pages of an "Inglourious" prequel already written, but it's backburnered for now. He has every intention of pursuing it at some point, with decisions likely to be made after the awards season dust settles, but there's something different on the horizon right now for the man who gave the world "Pulp Fiction" and "Reservoir Dogs." If you saw "Avatar" this past weekend then you probably saw this trailer for "Knight & Day." You might know the movie by its original working title, "Wichita." Cameron Diaz stars as a woman whose life is thrown into disarray when an ace secret agent, played by Tom Cruise, comes into her life. As you might expect, shenanigans ensue. As you'll see in this trailer, which I get a very "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" vibe from.

Christmas is almost upon us, and if you haven't checked everything and everyone off your holiday shopping list, you're a terrible person. We kid! But seriously: nothing says "You're important to me" like a last-minute trip to the mall for scented candles or your third consecutive pair of Christmas mittens.

We've all gotten those crappy goodies during less-than-memorable family get-togethers, just as we've all been given those prezzies that are so superlative they make our hearts sing. And you know who gets the best gifts of all? People in the movies. Before you check under the tree this year to see if your loved ones think you've been naughty or nice, check out our picks for the best presents in movie history. Read More...
