The "Dexter" season finale was one of the most tweeted about of the year, and Twitter-Wood had most a before post from actor John Lithgow and an after reaction from Jessica Simpson waiting in the feed today.

Simon Pegg, meanwhile, checked out "Avatar" and posted his predictions for the "Star Wars" franchise based on what he saw. And speaking of assumptions based on seeing things, I indulged in three retweets from Eli Roth today, which you'll find were totally worth as you see him explain "The Office" actress Mindy Kaling's reaction to his aging automobile and how he uses it to test people he meets. You can read that after the jump alongside a pic of a kind who looks nearly identical to Russell from "Up" and a shot of Tom Felton from the British Comedy Awards last night. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 14, 2009. Read More...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: When MTV News got a chance to chat with Bryce Dallas Howard last week while she was promoting her new movie, "The Loss of a Teardrop Diamond," an obvious question seemed to be to ask her what her favorite scene to film in next year's "Eclipse" was.

Unsurprisingly, and like many of the other "Eclipse" stars, Bryce said her favorite part of filming was the epic showdown at the end of the film between Victoria and her newborn vampire army and the double whammy of Cullens and werewolves.

"There's quite an extraordinary finale," she said. "That was very fun to do."

Only a few hours ago, I brought you an update from Guillermo del Toro, director of "The Hobbit," the "Lord of the Rings" prequel which officially begins casting today. His "all is well, things proceeding as planned" message is comforting to fans who have been worrying about delays and the like, but it doesn't really qualify as anything new. Not like this latest update...

For months now, fans have been speculating who might play the role of Bilbo Baggins, the innocent little dude at the center of "The Hobbit"'s story. Ian Holm played his older self in the "Rings" trilogy, but rumors have suggested we'll be seeing someone younger; James McAvoy, David Tennant, Jack Black and Daniel Radcliffe have all been rumored for the role. In fact, the role may soon be filled by "Spider-Man" star Tobey Maguire, according to Latino Review. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: For the past several weeks, juries and critics groups that basically no one beside Hollywood insiders and awards season prognosticators know anything about have been doling out accolades. On Tuesday morning, the mainstream arm of awards season begins when the Golden Globe nominations are announced.

What films are likely to be recognized? Which performances are the ones that will be remembered? MTV News took a look back at the year in movies and came up with our picks for the actors, actresses and their films that are most likely to be selected for the big show.

James Cameron, director of "Avatar" doesn't ever do things halfway. The time it took the boat in "Titanic" sunk mirrored the time the actual boat took to sink. The shoot for "The Abyss" lasted roughly half a year, with the cast clocking insane numbers of hours each week, much of that time spent underwater. And then there's the so-called "game-changer" that is "Avatar," a thoroughly gripping deep space adventure shot in extremely impressive 3-D.

The next stop for Cameron could be outer space, assuming he gets his way. Not "Avatar"'s beautifully rendered digital landscapes, mind you. Actual outer space. Like 6+ miles over the surface of the Earth. As Cameron exclusively told MTV's Josh Horowitz, he was at one point deep into the process of planning a trip into the stratosphere. Read More...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: MTV's next "Behind The Screen" special airs this week (Wednesday, 4 PM EST) with bunches of new footage and interviews from some of the hottest upcoming films, including James Cameron's blockbuster 3-D adventure "Avatar." When we sat down with Cameron recently to discuss his plans for "Avatar," we also had to ask about another project that's been on his radar: an adaptation of Yukito Kishiro's popular manga, "Battle Angel Alita."

Following the adventures of a robotic warrior rescued from the scrapheap by a scientist, it stands to reason that Cameron's groundbreaking "Avatar" filmmaking tech could be put to good use on "Alita."

"The mixture of live-action and CG is a little trickier in 3-D than it is 2-D," Cameron told MTV News. "Now we see it's good to have done 'Avatar' first before 'Battle Angel,' because the tricky scenes are where you're blending live-action photography, stereoscopic photography and CG."

I know what you're thinking. "The Lord of the Rings" is old news. What kind of update could there possibly be? The one that PlayStation 3 owners and Blu-ray adopters have been waiting for, of course. The full trilogy will hit the hi-def format on April 6, according to a report at Video Business (via ComingSoon). Fans can look forward to nine discs of Blu-ray goodness, with bonus content culled from the previous DVD releases as well as digital copies of each movie and BD Live access. The April release is only for the theatrical cuts of the trilogy; the extended versions are coming... eventually. No word yet on when.

There's also some news to report on "The Hobbit" front, beginning with the official start to the casting process today. "Hobbit" director Guillermo del Toro also dropped in on the forums at "Rings" fansite TheOneRing to address some of the pesky rumors that have been flying around. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Although there's been no official word about the plans to turn the fourth book in the "Twilight" Saga, "Breaking Dawn," into a flick, sources speculate that if the film should happen, it will be split into two parts and "New Moon" director Chris Weitz may hop on board to direct again.

But if any of that is happening, someone should tell "Twilight" star Peter Facinelli, because he currently knows nothing about the status of the movie. "No, we don't know anything yet," he told MTV News at Z100's Jingle Ball on Friday. "Usually the fans know before me. I've been combing the Web sites to see if we're doing a fourth movie. We'll see."

A few months ago, we learned that a name change for director Kevin Smith's upcoming "A Couple of Dicks" was imminent due to studio pressures. Apparently that title is just a little too suggestively racy; the "Dicks" in this case is a reference to the detectives at the center of the story, played by Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan.

Well Willis and Morgan may be playing a couple of dicks, but that's no longer the title that will greet you in theaters when you see the movie. The fine folks at The Film Stage noticed the name change while browsing the Warner Bros.' website (via The Playlist); a trailer will run attached to "Sherlock Holmes" for a movie called "Cop Out." Smith has already said that the "Dicks" trailer would run in front of "Holmes," so "Cop Out" is apparently the new title. Read More...
