'The Hangover'Getting some of the funniest guys in show business and dropping them in Vegas for a bachelor party sounds like a winning formula, but nobody expected "The Hangover" to gross a whopping $450 million dollars worldwide. Now the film is hitting DVD and Blu-ray, and is our lead film for this week's DVD Report.

Todd Phillips already had hits like "Old School" and "Road Trip" in the bank at the time he was begged to director "The Hangover," and the veteran comedy helmer pulled together a cast of unproven but fan-favorite stars. Headlining the zany misadventure romp would be Bradley Cooper (best known as the quintessential a-hole in "Wedding Crashers), Ed Helms ("Daily Show" and "The Office" alum) and underground comedy icon Zach Galifianakis. While all three shared a level of success, none had ever held a film together on their own, making this a considerable experiment for all involved. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: James Cameron has had five wives. Until Tuesday morning (December 15), the director had never found himself competing against one in an awards show. All that changed when the Golden Globe nominations were announced and both Cameron ("Avatar") and his ex Kathryn Bigelow ("The Hurt Locker") were recognized in the Best Director category.

Cameron produced Bigelow's 1991 thriller "Point Break," but the couple divorced shortly after Cameron finished filming "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." The exes remain friends. In fact, they've continued to work together after their marriage fell apart. Bigelow directed "Strange Days" in 1995, a film Cameron wrote and produced.

This time last year, a rumor emerged that "Avatar" director James Cameron might step up to helm a remake (of sorts) of the sci-fi classic, "Forbidden Planet." The possibility was sort of substantiated by Latino Review, who reported that Cameron had seen the script and "flipped" for it.

Shortly after, we had the opportunity to follow up with "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski, who was reportedly developing the "Planet" script. As he told MTV News at the time, "I’ve always wanted to do something involving 'Forbidden Planet.' It’s my favorite science-fiction film of all time. I’ve watched the rights go from one company to the next. I heard that the rights at Dreamworks were about to expire and I went to Joel Silver and said I think if you move quickly you can grab it and I can write it. And he did. It’s the dream of a lifetime to play in that universe."

Straczynski went on to explain that he has a very specific plan for the project, something unique and fresh. "It’s not a remake. It’s not a reimagining. It’s not exactly a prequel," he explained at the time. "You’ll have to see it. It’s something that no one has thought of when it comes to this storyline." With all of this in mind, MTV's Josh Horowitz had to ask what was up with "Planet" when he spoke to Cameron recently at the "Avatar" junket in London. Read More...

Hit summer comedy "The Hangover" hits DVD and Blu-ray today. The story follows three friends who take their soon-to-be-married pal to Las Vegas for his bachelor party. Drinks are consumed, blackouts follow and the trio awaken the next morning to find their affianced fourth missing in action. That's what happens when you have a wild night in Vegas.

They begin to piece together the lost night from their home base in one of the luxurious suites at Caesars Palace, a Las Vegas staple. In this exclusive clip below, from the DVD/Blu-ray extras, members of the cast and crew talk about the experience of arriving in Vegas for the first time, securing shoot access for Caesars and -- naturally -- losing money during the production's downtime.

Oh. Yes. As crowded as this summer will be with "Eclipse," "Iron Man 2," the "Toy Story 3" remake and many, many others, there are few things I'm looking forward to as much as "Inception." The marketing campaign thus far brings back fond memories from a decade ago of "The Matrix." What's more, director Chris Nolan's work on the two most recent "Batman" films has been exemplary; it's going to be great to see him stretch back into original territory, a la his award-winning work on "Memento." Today brings another tantalizing glimpse at the movie in the form of a hot new teaser poster (via ComingSoon):

The poster is a reward for completing a web-based maze game at YourMindIsTheSceneOfTheCrime.com, accessible via a new update on the official "Inception" website. Hit the jump for a super-sized version of the poster. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The 2010 Golden Globe nominations have been very kind to Sandra Bullock. The 45-year-old actress has two hit films this year and was blessed with nods for both: Best Actress in a Drama ("The Blind Side") and Best Actress in a Comedy or Musical ("The Proposal").

"I am beyond stunned," Bullock said in a statement. "Just to be included in the company of these amazing women I have so admired thru the years, has left me slack jawed with awe. It is TRULY an honor just to be nominated by the Hollywood Foreign Press, and I will cherish this moment with all the artists I have worked with behind the scenes, who truly make me look good!"

With "Avatar" receiving great reviews and topping critics' awards, the 3-D sci-fi blockbuster will be a huge hit with all kinds of moviegoers this weekend, not just the mainstream audiences that typically go for lots of action and special effects. But if you're looking for an alternative, at least until the crowds die down, there are a few smaller movies opening this week that might be of interest. Actually, two of these spotlighted limited release offerings open tomorrow, so you might have time to see them before you have a chance to see James Cameron's latest. And if you're not in one of the cities playing these films this weekend, hopefully they'll garner enough Oscar buzz to warrant a wider release soon enough. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Marion Cotillard's work in the splashy new musical "Nine" earned her a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress - Comedy or Musical on Tuesday morning (December 15). That's a good indication that the Oscar-winning actress successfully got over her initial fears about having to dance and sing in very little clothing while acting opposite the great Daniel Day-Lewis.

Which factor was most intimidating? "At the beginning of the process, it would be Daniel, dancing half-naked and singing," Cotillard told MTV News. "I was very intimidated by Daniel, and then you get to know him and to work with him and when you start working and the working process ... I mean, the admiration grows, if it can grow, because it was already so big."

Before "The Hangover" became one of the biggest success stories of 2009, it was just a Warner Bros. comedy starring that guy who cheats from "He's Just Not That Into You," the dude from "The Office," and some short, fat guy with a beard.

Bradley Cooper, Ed Helms and Zach Galifianakis weren't putting all their eggs in one basket, because I'm fairly certain none of them expected "The Hangover" to gross over $459 million in the worldwide box office. In fact, the stars of "The Hangover" have been some of the busiest guys around Hollywood over the past year. Here's a look at what else they've been up to since "The Hangover" hit theaters in June -- beyond, of course, preparing for 2011's "The Hangover 2." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Following the announcement of the nominations for the 67th annual Golden Globe nominations on Tuesday morning (December 15), reactions and statements from actors and filmmakers have come pouring in.

"Avatar" director James Cameron spoke to MTV News following the announcement that his film had four nominations, and he reveled in the fact that a sci-fi film has been recognized during awards season. "What makes this a special honor or accolade is it is a genre picture, and typically they are celebrated more by audiences than they are by critics," he said.
