FROM MTV.COM: Bad Blake is a man with a lot of mileage on him, every inch of it visible. Once a big country-music star, he now drives himself around the Southwest playing one-night gigs at local bars, some of them located in bowling alleys. He lives on cheap whiskey and bad food, which he generally eats while smoking. He's too numb to be bitter, although he has worked up some resentment about Tommy Sweet, a onetime member of Bad's old backing band who's since eclipsed him and become a big country star himself. Then one day a sympathetic young reporter named Jean Craddock turns up seeking an interview — a "where are they now" sort of thing — and Bad thinks he may see a light at the end of his long dark tunnel.

"Crazy Heart," adapted from a 1989 novel by Thomas Cobb, has the shape of a tale that's possibly been too-often told — the fallen star, the quest for redemption. But the details here are fresh, and first-time director Scott Cooper, who also wrote the script, has a lithe storytelling sensibility, cutting away from familiar narrative elements before they can settle into cliché.

That "off with her head" quote is just one of the fan-pleasing moments that show up in this new trailer for Tim Burton's sequel -- let's face it, that's what it is -- to the Disney classic/Lewis Carroll book, "Alice in Wonderland." Sure, Burton's flick is also called "Alice in Wonderland," but the story is set long after the events in the original story.

You actually get a bit of that exposition in this new trailer as well, so if you're unclear on how the story is set up you should definitely check it out. Also check it out if you're already a fan, as there's a lot of great stuff here: the Red Queen (Helena Bonham Carter) shouting her famous line, her playing card army on the march, Johnny Depp's Mad Hatter being... well... mad and plenty more. No caterpillar though. Bummer.

The image up above this text is a sneak preview of the EXCLUSIVE "Sherlock Holmes" clip that you'll be able to see on today's episode of "Behind the Screen." It's a pretty action-packed sequence that we've got for you, and taken from relatively early in the movie, so don't worry about any spoilers. It's a great flick, surprisingly faithful to the Holmes mythology while mixing in liberal amounts of impressively staged action.

There's a lot more than a "Holmes" clip to fill your half hour. In addition to an exclusive "Avatar" clip, you'll also be able to check out our exclusive interview with director James Cameron. We've got you covered for 2010 releases too: tune in for exclusive first looks at "The Other Guys," starring Mark Wahlberg and Will Ferrell, and "Dinner for Shmucks," starring Steve Carell, Paul Rudd and Zach Galifianakis.

Make sure you set your channel to MTV today at 4pm EST/1pm PST for the latest episode of "Behind the Screen"!!

It was as if she fired off a positively charged stream of proton-packed gossip into the blogosphere: "Ghostbusters" star Sigourney Weaver recently let slip during a press conference that in the upcoming third franchise installment Bill Murray might play a ghost, and that her son Oscar from "Ghostbuster 2" might work for the family business in the coming sequel. Here's what she had to say when MTV's Josh Horowitz caught up with her at the "Avatar" junket in London...

Tantalizing stuff, right? I mean seriously... will Bill Murray really be a ghost? Read More...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: It's the understatement of the year to say that reactions were mixed when I posted a story last week wondering aloud about "Avatar" star Sam Worthington's choice of clothing during MTV's live "Avatar" Q&A event. The actor, who starred in the recent "Terminator: Salvation" and will play Perseus in the upcoming "Clash of the Titans" remake, was seen wearing an "Avengers" shirt — so with tongue firmly planted in cheek, I asked whether it could be possible Worthington was campaigning for a role in "The Avengers" or "Captain America" movies.

The response was, to put it mildly, pretty polarizing. Some sites seemed to get the joke and play along, others took the post a little too seriously — but in the end, it certainly kicked off discussion of whether the Australian actor could (or should) play one of Marvel's heroes.

Cue the recent "Avatar" junket, and Worthington's arrival at the interview wearing a Captain America t-shirt...

"I'm a fan, mate. That's what it really is," laughed Worthington when asked about the shirt.

Filmmaker Carl Rinsch has already traded acid-bleeding extraterrestrials for a pack of lordless samurai, but now he's adding some monsters to the mix once again.

According to Hero Complex, Rinsch — a one-time rumored contender to direct the upcoming "Alien" prequel, and recently announced as the helmer for "47 Ronin" alongside star Keanu Reeves — is in discussions with Universal to take the reins on "Creature From the Black Lagoon." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Ever since the earliest days of Stephenie Meyer dreaming about a clumsy girl and a pale vampire spending time together in a meadow, Muse have been there to serve as the "Twilight" author's, well, muse. For proof, look no further than her acknowledgements in the "New Moon" novel: "And, finally, thank you to the talented musicians who inspire me, particularly the band Muse — there are emotions, scenes, and plot threads in this novel that were born from Muse songs and would not exist without their genius."

Several years later, the band has appeared on both massively successful soundtracks to the first two "Twilight" films and share millions of fans with the vampire franchise. This past weekend, the British band returned to Los Angeles to headline KROQ's annual Almost Acoustic Christmas festival. We snagged an all-access pass for "Twilight Saga" star Justin Chon — a huge fan of the band's — and after the show he got them to open up about backstage antics, whether it's better to be a rocker or an actor, and the song they're hoping to get on the "Eclipse" soundtrack.

"Twilight" star Peter Facinelli plays a vampire doctor in the Stephenie Meyer series, but he's also a doctor in another life. Facinelli has a steady gig entertaining small screen viewers on the TV series "Nurse Jackie." I haven't seen the show, but he's apparently an ace doctor in that series as well.

As you might expect, Facinelli spends a lot more time on the TV set than he does shooting "Twilight" movies. However, the pressures of shooting and promoting a movie keep him on the go very frequently. Which is why he's seeing things, or so he indicates in today's Daily TwitPic. Can anyone identify who the pilot in this pic is? It's not Facinelli, I know that much. Read More...

Meryl StreepEditor's Note: This was supposed to publish yesterday at noon. Not sure what happened there. Sorry about that, y'all.

The Golden Globe nominations are the talk of Tinsel Town today, but it's not necessarily the awards themselves that people are focused on. Oftentimes, the Globes are an interesting indicator of what we might see at the bigger event — namely, the Academy Awards.

If this year's Globes are any indication, then it's safe to say that Meryl Streep is going to get some loving at next year's Oscars. Streep had two starring roles this year in the forms of "It's Complicated" and "Julie & Julia," both of which are contending for the Best Musical or Comedy category. As a result, the actress's biggest competition this year is herself, believe it or not. Read More...

Golden Globe Nominations were the talk of Twitter-Wood today with congratulatory posts, thank yous and reactions floating around from Jeremy Piven, Neil Patrick Harris, Diablo Cody and legions of others. "Twilight" actress Anna Kendrick was particularly giddy, nabbing a nomination for her performance in Jason Reitman's "Up in the Air."

Not all of today's tweets were about good news, though, and Ice-T was one of the first to post condolences to Eddie Murphy's brother Charlie, whose wife Tisha Taylor Murphy died of cancer Sunday. His thoughts are retweeted after the jump along with a glimpse at Leighton Meester performing at Butter in Manhattan last night. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 15, 2009.
