Okay, that headline's a joke. Well the quote is real, but the speaker was only kidding. Director Clint Eastwood will follow up tomorrow's "Invictus" with "Hereafter," which is tentatively scheduled for release late next year. Gaga and Swift have nothing to do with the project; Eastwood was merely referring to an earlier moment in the interview, when the two pop stars came up, along with everybody's favorite vampire series, "Twilight."
In truth, little has been said about "Hereafter." So that's exactly what MTV's Josh Horowitz questioned Eastwood about when the two spoke during the "Invictus" press tour. The director didn't quite go as far as delving into spoiler territory, but he did run through a basic idea of what the story's all about.
"It's a story that's actually three stories of people who have had traumatic experiences in their life," he explained, adding "and how these stories converge towards one another. It ends up with all three stories culminating in one big sequence."
Eastwood had little else to say about the story, other than comparing it to "a French film or those kinds of films that were popular for awhile." He was quick to praise the screenwriter however, Peter Morgan, who also wrote "The Queen" and "Frost/Nixon," and who will receive a writing credit on the next James Bond movie.
Although the project hasn't exactly reached the casting phase, there is one actor who could conceivably be set for a role already: Eastwood himself. Asked about a possible appearance in the film, the director responded, "no, none for me. There isn't one in mind." He was quick to add however that a role wasn't written for him in "Gran Torino" and "Million Dollar Baby" either, but we all know how those ended up.
"They pop up now and then and if they're really appealing, then maybe I take them. But I'm not looking for that."
