Good afternoon, everyone. Before the Aughts come to a close at midnight tonight, I just want to take a moment to thank you readers for your support and your interest in MTV Movies Blog this year. I started the job at the beginning of May, a few short weeks before the whirlwind of action that was the 2009 MTV Movie Awards. It was a trial by fire; the turnout for our live blog left me pretty sure I'd passed, but I definitely singed a few whiskers along the way.

Really, I just want to take this moment before the year ends to thank you readers for your participation in the ongoing dialogue here on MTV Movies Blog. It's been enlightening, learning from you all. I don't think I'll ever be able to call myself a "Twilight" fan, but it's fascinating aspect of our pop culture and -- as a multi-faceted fanboy myself -- I have boundless respect for the ever-growing legion of fans who have turned it into a phenomenon.

2010 is going to be all about establishing stronger voices here on MTV Movies Blog. There are some exceptionally talented writers and reporters contributing content already and several more to come. In addition to maintaining the same high standard of news reporting and commentary here on the blog, my hope is that we'll see some new regular features emerge, platforms like Twitter-Wood that allow one writer or another to own his or her work. We're nowhere without your feedback though, so please keep the discussion going in the comments sections, on Twitter and with us directly at tips@mtvmoviesblog.com.

Thanks again to you all for your continued support. See you in 2010!

And so we reach the end of 2009. It's been quite a year for movies, hasn't it? Records were broken, vampires continued to sparkle and the game was presumably changed. James Cameron showed the world that he still knows how to tell a tale. Neill Blomkamp and Oren Peli both proved that there are still fresh, original ways of presenting familiar fare. And folks like Joel and Ethan Coen, Jason Reitman, Quentin Tarantino, J.J. Abrams, Spike Jonze and the entire Pixar team continued to define themselves as some of our favorite storytellers.

Here on the MTV Movies team, everyone has a different idea about what made 2009 a fantastic one for film. I'm here to share some of those highlight moments and favorite movies with you now. The entire team isn't represented here -- busy end-of-year schedules and all that jazz -- but you get a good sampling of what moved us and why. Happy New Year, y'all! See you in 2010! Read more...

While much of the world is busy bidding farewell to 2009, "Doctor Who" fans will be saying a different type of goodbye on January 1 when series star David Tennant concludes his celebrated run on the long-running BBC science-fiction series. One of the most popular actors to ever play the iconic role, Tennant has been the face of "Doctor Who" since 2005 and led the series to its most successful run (both in the UK and abroad) in its 47-year history.

As MTV's resident "Doctor Who" geek, I sat down with Tennant for a chat about the looming end to his run as the time- and space-traveling adventurer known as The Doctor. Along with discussing what he'll miss most about the role, he also revealed the mementoes he's taking with him from his time as The Doctor — and when he might return for a cameo appearance like so many past Doctors.

"I was presented with a sonic screwdriver in a beautiful box that the prop department made for me," said Tennant of his going-away gift. "So I got to take that home and that will sit in a very proud place in my home." Read more...

News that "Poltergeist" actress Zelda Rubinstein has been taken off of life support didn't go unnoticed by horror movie fans in the Twitter-Wood community this week. The sad revelation caught the attention of both Richard Kelly and Jeff Katz (on his birthday, nonetheless), and I definitely echo those sentiments to her family.

In other posts, attempted underwear bomb from last week is still a trending topic among tweeters. Kevin Nealon was among those contemplating the ongoing investigation yesterday. Catch those thoughts after the jump along with Brian Lynch on Taylor Swift and Taylor Lautner, Christina Applegate and Emmy Rossum on James Cameron's work in "Avatar" and more in the Twitter-Wood report for December 30, 2009. Working at MTV News, you get to see some pretty weird stuff happen. MTV Movies managing editor Josh Horowitz has a particular knack for loosening celebrities up in interviews to the point that they say ridiculous things. Just browsing through the MTV video archives unearths a veritable gold mine of hilariously awkward moments. We've selected 10 of the most memorable of these, five of which we presented last week and the remaining five you can check out today in the second part of MTV's Bizarre Interview Moments of 2009.

As a special treat, "500 Days Of Summer" stars Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel help us get the show started... with a shot at Horowitz. It's pretty painful, really. You'll see.

Tim RothFROM SPLASH PAGE: While 2008's "Incredible Hulk" only performed marginally better at the box office than its 2003 counterpart, many fans praised Louis Leterrier's take on Marvel's green goliath as a significant upgrade from Ang Lee's earlier film. One of the most notable improvements, according to many critics, was the addition of award-winning actor Tim Roth as the villainous soldier Emil Blonsky opposite Edward Norton's scientist-on-the-run Bruce Banner.

Even though [SPOILER ALERT] Roth's character was on the receiving end of a Hulk beatdown at the end of the film (despite becoming the mutated behemoth Abomination), the door was left wide open for a potential return. And as Hulk fans know, Blonsky is a regular presence among Hulk's rogues.

While chatting with Roth recently about "Lie to Me," the Fox television series in which he plays a human lie-detector of sorts, I managed to slip in a few questions about his experience battling one of Marvel's most iconic characters — and whether we'll see Emil Blonsky square off against Hulk again down the road. Sick Day StashCall them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

New Year's Eve is a time for celebrating the year gone by and the year yet to come. It is an occasion where mirth and merriment are equally abundant. Champagne flows from bottles like the greatest of geysers. Loved ones and devil worshippers gather together for the coming birth of Satan's son into our mortal realm. Confetti is spilled everywhere and laughter hangs thick in the —

Wait, you're not familiar with that Satan part? Really? Read more...

Do you remember when MTV's Josh Horowitz spoke to "Avatar" star Sigourney Weaver a few weeks ago about "Ghostbusters III"? She talked about star Bill Murray coming back as a ghost, perhaps even a Slimer, and her in-movie son Oscar playing a now-grown-up Ghostbuster. Here... see for yourself:

Well Weaver's spoiler-rich speculation may be what prompted Egon actor and writer of the first two films Harold Ramis to say a little bit about when we might be seeing the gang strap on their unlicensed nuclear accelerators once again. Read more...

This is the time of year that people tend to let themselves go. Starting with the Thanksgiving Day gorge, a lot of folks set their controls to "Party" for the rest of the year, ringing in both the holidays and the new year with the mass consumption of food and spirits. Tomorrow, the party culminates for revelers across the world, as the clock ticks over from 11:59pm on 12/31/09 to 12:00am on 1/1/10.

And David Spade is ready. As you'll see in today's Daily TwitPic, he's got a single bottle of liquor that's large enough to feed an entire party. Gentleman Jack to be precise, a high-end Jack Daniels. Here's a fun fact about JD that I discovered while traveling around the country back in the late '90s: the Jack Daniels distillery is located in Lynchburg, Tennessee, which is a dry county. Meaning you can't actually buy the stuff within a 50-mile radius (roughly-- this is speaking from memory) of where they make it! Read more...

Christian Serratos was talking about going to Greece yesterday, but last night she was post pictures from her trip to the White House, where she visited a cardboard Christmas tree.

In other tweets, Mindy Kaling saw "Avatar," and she and fellow "Office" cast member Rainn Wilson ran a hypothetical question about how Dwight would react to Na'vi. Click on past the jump to see what they predicted along with what Adam Duritz gave Emmy Rossum for Christmas, whose Wii workout game Diablo Cody has been using and what Neil Gaiman security pat-down he had to endure. It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for December 29, 2009.
