FROM MTV.COM: A year ago at this time, people were finally comprehending the scope of "Twilight" mania. Rob and Kristen were treated like rock stars, thousands of fans were eager to share their "little secret" with the world, and a tiny Taylor Lautner enthusiastically posed with fans, simply hoping they'd want him back for more.

On Monday evening (November 16), "New Moon" mania took over at the film's red-carpet premiere. And like Taylor's presence in the sequel, it's bigger, better and far more muscular.

The Blu-ray/DVD isn't the only "Star Trek"-related piece of awesome hitting stores today. Serious fans can also pick up "Star Trek: The Art of the Film," from Titan Books. We ran a few exclusive monster design sketches last week to psych you up, and now we have a couple more looks at the book.

These are no sketches though. Oh no... we've got photos to share today. Two of them. First up is a look at the rebooted bridge of the U.S.S. Enterprise, from various angles. Pretty badass, but it doesn't compare to the second one. It's a full Enterprise crew cast shot taken on the bridge, only Abrams himself is in the captain's chair. As he should be. The poster above you might've seen before, but I love the design of it so much that I'm running it to go with this post. Hit the jump for the exclusive hotness. Read More...

Back in May, J.J. Abrams delighted fans and newcomers alike with his mass audience-friendly (yet still fan-serving) reboot of "Star Trek." It's been a six month wait, but finally we all get to enjoy the movie at home thanks to today's Blu-ray/DVD release. What many people may not realize however, is that the wait could have been longer.

"Trek" was originally set to hit theaters on Christmas Day in 2008. Paramount chose to delay that release to May 2009, which turned out pretty well. Abrams didn't mind either, since it gave him extra time to ensure that the movie would have something for all who might be interested. "We had the luxury of time," he said in a recent interview with MTV's Josh Horowitz. "I would argue that literally the last ten days of our post process we did 30% of the work." Read More...

"From the very beginning, we talked about wanting to do a Kirk and Spock story." That's "Star Trek" director J.J. Abrams, speaking on how the story for the May hit was originally conceived. The clip below, a brief snippet focused on the Kirk/Spock origin story, comes from the bonus content included on the DVD/Blu-ray, which hits stores today. Check it out.

Abrams and his team, including writing superstars Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, made the right move in focusing on the birth of Kirk and Spock's friendship. It is as essential to the DNA of the series as the name "U.S.S. Enterprise." As much as the two butt heads in this reboot, they have to be friends in the end if Abrams' is to have any hope of pleasing longtime fans. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: By now every Twilighter knows the story well. Taylor Lautner almost lost the role of werewolf Jacob Black for "New Moon." But he hit the gym, packed on 30 pounds of muscle and secured the coveted part opposite Kristen Stewart. What we don't know as well is what went on behind the scenes when the casting decision was being deliberated at Summit Entertainment, the studio behind the vampire saga.

It turns out that at least one star was doing her best to make sure Lautner was not replaced. "I definitely fought for him," Kristen Stewart told MTV News on the red carpet at the "New Moon" premiere on Monday night. "I was totally on his side the entire time."

It should be understood that the new film "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans" is not technically a remake. Filmmaker Werner Herzog has supposedly never even seen Abel Ferrara's original 1992 film, simply titled "Bad Lieutenant," and the only connections are the title and the fact that both films' protagonists are indeed bad police lieutenants.

Now, according to statements made to the Los Angeles Times in a piece about the second picture, producers Alan and Gabe Polsky hope to continue the "Bad Lieutenant" name as an ongoing franchise. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The "Twilight" franchise is not just for middle-school girls who need their parents to drive them to the movie theater, and you better not suggest such a thing to 50 Cent.

"Well, what exactly is the target demographic?" 50 wondered when asked what exactly he was doing at the "New Moon" red-carpet premiere in Los Angeles on Monday night.

"Little teenage girls?" MTV News' Larry Carroll suggested.

Have you been watching "V"? Good show so far. An interesting fusion of the original's basic idea with underlying themes made relevant for today's audiences. I'm looking forward to seeing where things go.

Tonight, they'll go to seemingly amicable places as the Visitors are granted legal visitation status on the planet Earth. I somehow doubt that will last very long. Click the image below to check out our preview flipbook gallery for tonight's episode, titled "A Bright New Day." And look for Josh Wigler's episode recap, tonight on MTV Movies Blog.

FROM MTV.COM: Rachelle Lefevre opted not to stop by the "New Moon" premiere Monday night to bid farewell the "Twilight" franchise before Bryce Dallas Howard replaces her in "Eclipse."

The actress, who plays the evil vampire Victoria in the first two movies, gave two reasons for not attending the premiere on her Twitter. "2 fans at the premiere: w/ Honey in hospital," she wrote. "& being fired from Eclipse tonight was just 2 emotional 4 me & I couldn't manage it. So sorry."

McGMcG can put his life jacket and swim gear back on the shelf — the "Terminator Salvation" director won't embark upon his planned sea voyage anytime soon, as "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" has been docked indefinitely.

Variety reports that the latest film version of the classic Jules Verne novel is currently on hold, with director McG no longer attached. The production was set to begin this February and was considered "on a fast track under the Dick Cook regime," but the departure of the former Disney chief may have derailed the film's priority status.
