It's common knowledge that video games have had a rough go of things in Hollywood. It's still a young entertainment medium -- comparing them chronologically to film, games have really only reached their "talkie" phase -- but a story is a story, and games really just haven't been adapted very well. That hasn't stopped filmmakers from trying to crack the code though.

There was some promise in "Halo," which Peter Jackson was going to produce and "District 9" helmer Neill Blomkamp was going to direct. Until it fizzled out, that is. The next great hope on the horizon is "Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time," which hits theaters next May. Both of these games have rich, well-developed stories. "Twilight" producer Wyck Godfrey, who has his hands on adaptations of "Gears of War" and "Dead Space," argues that the big problem with game adaptations thus far is related mostly to the source narratives. FROM MTV.COM: In the "Twilight" novels and movies, the rapidly developing young men of the Quileute tribe are described with lots of different adjectives: secretive, loyal, playful, even cultish. And the fresh-faced actors bringing the wolf pack to life in "New Moon" seem to have formed a similar bond in real life. That bond is so strong, the foursome may immortalize their friendship the same way the Quileute do — with ink.

"Yeah, we've talked about that. We're all getting tattoos," Chaske Spencer, who plays pack leader Sam Uley, told MTV News recently. Spencer, Kiowa Gordon, Alex Meraz and Bronson Pelletier are planning to mark their right arms with the same circular design each has in the "Twilight Saga" movies.

Last week, we got our first look at Alan Rickman's Caterpillar in the upcoming Tim Burton-directed "Alice in Wonderland." It was a slightly blurry magazine scan, not necessarily how you'd want to have your first glimpse of the beloved character.

Well you don't have to worry about that anymore. Disney finally issued the full, hi-res images, three posters which combine into a triptych. They'd previously been available exclusively on the Disloyal Subjects of the Mad Hatter Facebook page, but now we have them here for you. Check out the lovely triptych below, or click it to check out our newly updated "Alice" flipbook, complete with a better look at that Caterpillar poster.

That headline ain't kidding. This morning's Daily TwitPic isn't the sharpest image you'll ever see. It may well be one of the blurriest. But it's also Danny DeVito celebrating his birthday -- yes, that's a candle-covered cake -- with Johnny Depp and Patti Smith.

DeVito and Depp at least were both in New York City this week for the exhibition opening of Tim Burton's career retrospective at the Museum of Modern Art. The trio are joined at their table by what is identified as "Troll Foot." If you look carefully, to the left of the cake, you can see it: a bare foot. If you follow DeVito then you know that he's got a weird fascination with tweeting images of his "Troll Foot." See for yourself after the jump. Read More...

It comes as no surprise that supporting cast members in "New Moon" would try to splinter off their own factions in the endless "Team Edward vs. Team Jacob" debate, but it looks like BooBoo Stewart's got at least one backer for Team Seth, judging from his TwitPic upload today. Tinsel Korey, meanwhile, remains firmly behind Team Jacob.

In non-"Twilight" posting today, Danny DeVito had a nice showing for his birthday last night, even if his picture wasn't high enough quality to make Twitter Pic of the Day. Neil Patrick Harris posted a new shot from the "How I Met Your Mother Set" and David Wain contributed a courtside view from the Lakers game. Check out all of those after the jump where you'll also find out which actress enjoys dancing to Lady Gaga and which actor claims he's the only one who didn't audition for "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen." It's all in the Twitter-Wood report for November 18, 2009. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: In 2007, Jamie Campbell Bower co-starred in Tim Burton's "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street." A few years later, after being cast as a vampire in "New Moon," the young British actor has not forgotten the director who gave him his big break, telling MTV News that Burton would be the ideal man to helm the final "Twilight" installment, "Breaking Dawn."

What does Burton think about that idea? When we caught up with the director at the opening of a retrospective of his work at New York's Museum of Modern Art, he was flattered.

I've got good news and bad news, video game fans. The good news is that a "Space Invader" film is on the way. The bad news is that it has no connection whatsoever to the classic arcade game.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, "Iron Man 2" screenwriter Justin Theroux is set to pen "Space Invader," Fox's astronaut romantic comedy that has nothing to do with shooting down wave after wave of aggressive alien aircrafts via joystick and button mashing. Instead, "Space Invader" focuses on a man who goes to space after suspecting that his astronaut girlfriend is cheating on him with a fellow astronaut.

Don't get me wrong, this "Space Invader" premise is pretty funny, and Will Arnett's attachment to the lead role makes it even funnier. Still, why throw away the "Space Invaders" name on a romantic comedy, rather than reserving it for a future video game adaptation? That's almost as bad as if the following five video games had their titles used for entirely different premises... Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The saga of Johnny Depp and the "Pirates of the Caribbean" franchise has lately hit choppy waters.

After Disney studio chief Dick Cook — Depp's close creative partner — abruptly left the company, the actor said there'd been "a fissure, a crack" in his enthusiasm for the fourth "Pirates" film. On top of that, a new director, Rob Marshall, has come on-board to helm the film after three-time "Pirates" director Gore Verbinski set sail for other projects.

All of these developments cast doubt on the future of "Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides," as the picture will be titled. MTV News had a chance to chat with Depp, People magazine's newly anointed "Sexiest Man Alive," on Tuesday night at the Museum of Modern Art's Tim Burton retrospective in New York, and the star revealed several key points. He hasn't seen a script. He's unsure of what the story line will be. And while he's keen to step into the boots of pirate Jack Sparrow once again, he stopped well short of making a 100 percent commitment to return.

One of the sharpest, laugh-out-loud comedies on television is "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia," and now the gang at Paddy's Pub have their very own Christmas special. The catch? It's exclusive to DVD and Blu-ray and it's in stores now. So what's it about? According to the studio, "Join Mac, Charlie, Dennis, Dee and Frank as they embark on a holiday adventure filled with stolen toys, childhood videos, naked elves, and a bloody run in with Santa Claus that is guaranteed to blast Christmas spirit all over you!"

To whet your appetite, we've got an exclusive clip from the bonus features which features director Fred Savage (yes, that Fred Savage) walking us through backstage, with a special appearance from Kaitlin Olson and Danny DeVito. Check it out below.

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: Between the grocery aisle and the magazine aisle, in the past few months, we haven't been able to get away from "New Moon" mania. So we at Hollywood Crush have decided to compile a list of all the magazines the various stars of "The Twilight Saga" have graced in recent months for your viewing pleasure. After you take the walk down memory lane, take our poll so we can decide which magazine nailed your vision for the stars the best!

1. Robert, Kristen and Taylor on EW, November 2009

In this past week's issue of Entertainment Weekly, the magazine sat down and asked Kristen, Taylor and Rob the important questions (or the only questions that haven't been asked yet). They got some funny stuff about Edward Cullen's brief stint with long hair and Taylor's fight for Jacob Black, and also caught Kristen's relationship joke of, "We are. We aren't. I'm a lesbian" on a voice recorder.
