FROM MTV.COM: Do fish have dreams? Do they dream of ominous iguanas, perhaps? Or maybe the disembodied breakdancing souls of freshly capped gangsters? More to the point, will Nicolas Cage ever make another movie that makes sense? Judging by his new one, "Bad Lieutenant: Port of Call New Orleans," and considering his current financial straits, the prospects seem dim.

The director — the esteemed Werner Herzog, stupefyingly enough — claims never to have seen Abel Ferrara's original 1992 "Bad Lieutenant," and I think we can take him at his word. The Ferrara movie, which I'd recommend seeing before — or better yet instead of — this one, concerns a viciously bent New York City cop; and Harvey Keitel, in the title role, is the embodiment of rank, skeezy corruption. In Herzog's take on the story, the action has been relocated, for no reason at all, to New Orleans, "in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina."

Welcome to Gore Girls! MTV contributor Terri Schwartz doesn't know crap about the horror genre, and she's volunteered to be our Movies Blog guinea pig. She has a good guide too. Fellow contributor Jenni Miller is a bonafide horror enthusiast, and she's willing to walk Terri through her formative experiences with blood, guts, monsters and maniacs. Together, this dynamic duo are THE GORE GIRLS!!! Good luck Terri... you're definitely going to need it.

Today brings another special Friday edition of MTV's Gore Girls. With "New Moon" freshly arrived in theaters, we decided to try something a little bit different. Instead of Jenni and Terri discussing a single movie, they watched "Bram Stoker's Dracula" -- a romance-focused vampire story, albeit with quite a bit more horror than Stephenie Meyer's works -- and discussed it in relation to "Twilight." For those who haven't seen it, "Dracula" is a pretty straightforward adaptation of Bram Stoker's 1897 book. Gary Oldman stars as the king blood-sucker, alongside Keanu Reeves as Jonathan Harker, Winona Ryder as his beloved wife Mina and Anthony Hopkins as Abraham Van Helsing. It was a bit of a sensation when it hit theaters in 1992. Nothing approaching what we see today with "Twilight," but a similar sort of vampire-focused craze. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: November 20 has been a long time coming for devotees of the "Twilight" saga, and at a movie theater in Times Square, fans from around the world congregated long before midnight to witness Chris Weitz's adaptation of "New Moon," the second book in Stephenie Meyers' series. While there were who were disappointed ("It did not live up to expectations at all," griped Melissa Paipan from Manhattan), the general consensus was that it was, as Jordana de la Cruz from Rhode Island gushed, "the best movie in the entire universe and more."

"We bought our tickets ... literally, the day they came out," Lauren from Brooklyn told MTV News. Many who attended the midnight screening said they purchased tickets as early as September. Many had also prepared for the occasion by re-reading passages from the novel, watching the movie's trailers online, and re-watching the first movie.

Damn this news. I can't refer to the "two Stevens" because Steven Spielberg and Stephen King spell their first name differently. Maybe the "two Steves"? That's a little too familiar. None of that really matters in the end: the news is that these two giants -- one the father of the Hollywood blockbuster, the other a master of literary horror -- are joining forces in a super team-up of almost unmanageable proportions.

Spielberg and King will partner to produce a "limited series" for DreamWorks TV, adapted from the author's just-released "Under the Dome," Variety reports. This isn't their first partnership, however. Spielberg has held the rights to King's 1984 book "The Talisman" for more than 20 years; here's hoping "Under the Dome" gets off the ground more quickly. FROM MTV.COM: It's Friday morning, and the opening midnight screenings of "New Moon" have come and gone. But it's not just devoted vampire lovers and werewolf fiends who got early looks at the film. Premieres and screenings have taken place across the country, and loads of folks have already been able to see this sequel to Stephenie Meyer's "Twilight" vampire series.

Now, let's be honest, if you're a committed Twilighter, you surely already plunked down some cash for an opening weekend trip to the cinema and are counting the minutes until showtime. Or maybe you're sitting on the "Twilight" fence, unsure if all the breathless enthusiasm for Edward and Bella can possibly live up to the hype. Well, the "New Moon" reviews have flooded in to help you decide. Agree or disagree, here are what the critics are saying about the film.

Friends... I've got mixed emotions about this news. On the one hand, the "Vacation" movies are comedy gold. So any chance to see Chevy Chase and Beverly D'Angelo take up their roles as the Griswold family again has me pounding the walls in excitement. On the other hand, this latest reunion is for a HomeAway ad campaign which is set to launch during the Super Bowl on February 7, 2010. Sooooo... yeah, conflicted.

This isn't the first time that Chase and D'Angelo have stepped into their Griswold roles in recent memory. They made a brief cameo in "Family Guy: Blue Harvest," the animated series' loving parody of "Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope," complete in a flying version of the first "Vacation" movie's Wagon Queen Family Truckster (the big green station wagon thing). A replica of the Truckster will also appear as part of the HomeAway ad campaign, according to a report from US Weekly. But perhaps there's some hope to take away from all of this. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: In "New Moon," a new character joins the "Twilight" family of nuzzly PG-13 creatures. It's the Invisible Man. Not far into the picture, the undead Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) fades out of the action for a bit, and is replaced by wolf boy Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner). Edward eventually returns, but he never really comes back. Last year's sensitive hunk, with his pasty face and glum, mopey demeanor, is no match for this year's actual hunk; and Jacob — vibrant, funny, and madly muscular — romps off with the picture.

It's a silly picture, of course: Given the series' source material — Stephenie Meyer's blathery teen novels — what else could it be? But thanks to Lautner and newly-recruited director Chris Weitz, "New Moon" is a notable improvement over "Twilight."

For the second time this week, the morning's Daily TwitPic showcases Brett Ratner's special relationship with pop legend Michael Jackson. Like the posting from earlier this week, today's pic comes courtesy of Twitter user @MJJalways.

As tragic as the circumstances are, I've been enjoying the flood of candid Jackson photos we've been seeing in the past months. In life, he was notoriously withdrawn from the public eye. It's easy to refer to him now as a "legend" because he was so untouchable and set apart even when he was still with us. So candid photos like the one from earlier this week and the one seen after the break give us a better picture of who Jackson was as a person. He gets pretty silly in today's pic too, wearing a giant afro wig that harkens back to his younger performance days with the Jackson 5. Read More...

"New Moon" hits theaters today, but I'm betting that at least a good portion of you saw it last night in a midnight screening. I'll be seeing it this weekend -- tomorrow morning, in fact -- but I figured it would be best to leave the late night viewing to the real fans. Besides, something told me that late-night "New Moon" revelers were going to be a loud crowd to see the movie with. Lord knows I gasped and hooted during "The Phantom Menace." I figure a morning matinee will be a bit... quieter. Only a bit.

But I'm not here to talk about "New Moon." That's out in theaters now. It's old news. "Eclipse" is the new hotness. In six months we get to board this train again when the third movie in the "Twilight" series hits theaters. And now that the "New Moon" has risen, we've gotten our first taste of "Eclipse" in the form of a teaser poster, available exclusively through the "Twilight" Tracker app for iPhone and iPod Touch. FringeEpisode Title: "August"

Written By: J.H. Wyman & Jeff Pinkner

Synopsis: The Observer (Michael Cerveris) is back, and just as he ominously warned Walter Bishop (John Noble) in last season's finale, there is more than one of everything — including himself. A renegade Observer named August (Peter Woodward) draws attention from Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and the Fringe team after he abducts a young woman in broad daylight. What is August's plan? Why is he acting rather than observing? More importantly, where are his eyebrows? Read More...
