Episode Title: "Legacy of Terror"
Writer: Eoghan Mahony
Tagline: "Sometimes, accepting help is harder than offering it."
The Story: The ongoing Geonosis campaign continues this week, the third episode in which the Grand Republic Army takes back the world where the Clone Wars kicked off. Fresh off the success of destroying a newly constructed Separatist droid factory, the Jedi and their troops press forward to bring Geonosian ruler Poggle the Lesser to justice. Master Luminara Unduli leads the charge, braving a sandstorm alone as she tracks the big bug to a network of catacombs populated by undead warriors working in service to the Geonosian queen.
Thank The Maker: It's episodes like "Legacy of Terror" -- really, arcs like this Geonosian campaign -- that validate "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" as a truly exceptional series. Just last week, I was bemoaning the series for not declaring itself strongly enough within the canon, my example being the apparent dropping of Poggle the Lesser's capture as a goal of the conflict. Turns out, they were saving it for this week. Is he dead? No, of course not. But he's captured, and we've gotten a more detailed glimpse of Geonosian culture in the process. Plus, a terrifying new enemy.
Off With Their Heads: The Geonosian queen and her undead minions introduce some creepy elements into the episode. The lurching, dead-eyed bugs with their mind-controlling snake-thing darting in and out of open orifices may not be dripping in blood and gore, but they attack from the shadows without warning and keep coming even after they're apparently cut down. Sounds like zombies to me. The queen herself is eminently unsettling, a slight Geonosian form hanging off of a massive larvae-producing body. Her cracked, screeching voice is one part silly, one part fear-inspiring. She'll make a great villain to return to in the future. Unless you think she actually dies at the end. In which case, you're crazy enough to fly into an asteroid field.
These Clone Wars Continue: There was some major plot advancement this week, and it looks like the Geonosian campaign continues next week. More from the queen in fact, and her mind-controlling worms. Let's see if those wily Jedi can hold onto their new captive while fighting off a zombie-like incursion from within.
