It's hard to say exactly when "Chuck Norris Facts" popped up on the Internet and almost instantly became an online phenomenon. Offering up all sorts of claims regarding the mythical attributes of martial arts champion and movie/TV star Chuck Norris, the Chuck Norris Facts have circulated around the globe and become one of the most popular memes of the last few years.
And now Chuck Norris himself is getting in on the fun.
This month, Tyndale House Publishers will release "The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book" -- a collection of 101 of Norris' favorite online "facts" paired with a corresponding story from his life, written by Norris. The action movie star recently dropped by MTV HQ to discuss the book and confirm or deny some of our favorite Chuck Norris Facts.
"The very first [fact in the book] is 'Chuck Norris was bitten by a cobra and after five days of excruciating pain, the cobra died.' And what I do in the book is, I write a fact, and then I'll tell a story after the fact," Norris explained. "In this particular story here, when I was doing 'Walker, Texas Ranger,' I had a scene where I had to pick up a five-foot rattlesnake."
Norris went on to explain his adventure with the rattlesnake, and was a good enough sport to also endure a little rapid-fire "confirm or deny" interrogation regarding the truth of the Chuck Norris Facts. Check out the results below:
Oh, and for readers outside the US, here's a quick recap: Chuck Norris can dribble a football, but he shaved off the fist beneath his beard. He does need a stunt double for crying scenes, and for a grand finale, he showed me how he created a giraffe by upper-cutting a horse.
(Just in case you were wondering.)
"The Official Chuck Norris Fact Book" is available now from Tyndale House Publishers.
