Producer Jim Jacks has joined the supernatural action thriller "Mortis Rex," which will be "Hellboy" screenwriter Peter Briggs’ directorial debut. Dominic Ianno is also on board as an executive producer, and the film will shoot next spring on location in Italy, Eastern Europe and the U.K., according to Variety

“Mortis Rex” – which is Latin for “King of the Dead” – is set in 122 AD. The story focuses on a disgraced Roman war hero who is given one last opportunity to redeem himself when he is sent to a Roman garrison plagued by a series of brutal and unexplained killings. Read More...

"The Crazies." One of the mad works from "Night of the Living Dead" director George Romero. Also, a soon-to-release remake from Overture Films, directed by Breck Eisner and hitting theaters on February 26, 2010. The story involves a small Iowa town in which a government experiment is accidentally leaked into the water supply. The locals all get sick, turning into depraved, zombie-like creatures. A bunch of crazies, if you will. Check out MTV's set visit coverage from earlier this year...

After the jump you'll find an exclusive image from the movie, a gift from Overture to further boost our week of Halloween coverage. In the pic you'll see star Radha Mitchell strapped to a gurney, her eye flooded with terror. I can't tell you why, but I can tell you that MTV's Eric Ditzian has a cameo in this scene. He's a movie star! Hit the jump to share in Mitchell's terror. Read More...

Call them "cult classics." "Guilty pleasures." "Comfort movies." We all have a mental rolodex of flicks that may not be terribly popular but, for one reason or another, they resonate in a very special way. Maybe you saw it at the right moment. Maybe you just see gold where everyone else sees feces. Whatever the case, these are the special favorites that you keep stashed away for sick days. Here are some of ours.

I've been racking my brain all week for a good Halloween-themed Sick Day Stash pick. My focus had been on horror movies of course, since this is the time of year when we all dress up like someone or something else and attempt to scare the crap out of one another. Then, on Monday, I got an invite to check out a free, outdoor screening of a childhood classic (thanks to the 45th Street Block Association, 9th Avenue to the River). It's a movie that I grew up with, one that has a very special meaning. And wouldn't you know, it's got a Halloween peg. The movie: Steven Spielberg's "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial." Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: Audiences are flocking to "Paranormal Activity" in order to be scared silly and, thanks to the believable performances from the film's two leads, Katie Featherston and Micah Sloat, they are getting what they paid for.

Director Oren Peli told MTV News how the actors — who are professionals, just with little experience — were able to play their roles so convincingly.

Michael Jackson has dominated my life for the past few months. Even to begin to count the number of stories I've written about the King of Pop since his death in June would make my brain go gooey. I suspect I'm not alone in the brain-gooeyness department when it comes to MJ overexposure. My love of his music, and my respect for the man himself, has been colored and contextualized by the past months, and I really wasn't sure how I would feel as I headed last night to the New York premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It."

Again, I suspect I'm not alone when it comes to a diffuse sort of trepidation about the documentary. Do I still care? Can I still listen to his music? Is this whole production simply an exercise in soul-sucking morbidity? After sitting through the 105 minute film, I can report that I certainly still care, that I can listen to his music and that for all the doc's flaws – there are many – it's a seriously important piece of pop culture history. Most importantly, it's a lot of fun. Read More...

FROM HOLLYWOOD CRUSH: With today marking the release of the highly anticipated Michael Jackson movie “This Is It,” we here at Hollywood Crush wanted to find a way to help you honor the music legend. Halloween is just three days away, so we thought we would extend our Dress Like A Movie Star Week to pay tribute to (respectfully, of course) the always-groundbreaking MJ. While you could always do a group costume inspired by the spooky fun undead from the classic “Thriller” video, we also wanted to help you capture some of Jackson’s other iconic looks.

There’s no one at a party who won’t instantly recognize (and scream for) you dressed to the nines as MJ from the 1995 MTV Video Music Awards (see a photo after the jump). The great thing about these costumes? They’re unisex, so ladies and gents, it’s time to step up and give the King of Pop some props this Halloween.

FringeFans of "Fringe" waited patiently throughout the show's first season to meet the enigmatic scientist William Bell. That patience was rewarded in the form of a brief cameo by actor Leonard Nimoy during the season's closing moments and in an extended scene earlier this year.

But based on the words of Nimoy himself, Bell's days on "Fringe" could already be numbered. The actor spoke with Hero Complex about his role on "Fringe," admitting that his turn as the scientific rival of Dr. Walter Bishop's could be at an end. Read More...

FROM SPLASH PAGE: Halloween Week continues with yet another guest blog from one of the industry's most notable creators of horror comics. This time around, it's "30 Days of Night" co-creator Steve Niles, whose series "Criminal Macabre," "Freaks of the Heartland" and "Wake the Dead" (among others) are also currently in development as feature films. His sequel to "30 Days of Night," "Dark Days" is also currently in production.

I imagine for a lot of folks out there Halloween is a fun time, but not one of the bigger times of year. In my house, Halloween is right up there with all major holidays. I’d even go as far as to say I spend more in October than I do in December.

It’s the truth. I have a problem. My name is Steve Niles and I’m a horror addict. I’m also one lucky monster-kid. But I’m getting ahead of myself.

The just-announced Adam Sandler vehicle "Jack and Jill" can be and has been summed up in one easy sentence, which was also likely the original high-concept pitch: "Sandler will play Jack as well as twin sister Jill."

Nothing else is known about this movie, at least not from Variety's report, except that it will be a romantic comedy and it was scripted by former "SNL" writer Steve Koren, who also penned the high-concept Sandler flick "Click."

My guess is the plot will involve a relationship begun by one of the twins, and the other twin will jealously attempt to break up the romance. Or maybe Koren has gone a little further and made both twins pursuing separate mates, each reciprocally disliked by the opposite twin. Read More...

FROM MTV.COM: The crew that worked with Michael Jackson while he prepared for his 50-show This Is It concert run in London had no idea about the unfortunate events that were to come; in fact, many of the people involved felt that the final rehearsals were incredible and a sign of what was to come from the King of Pop.

"Michael stood out in front of the stage with me and looked at the rehearsal and said, 'This is the dream. This is the dream, good Kenny. You did it,' " director Kenny Ortega told MTV News. "I think there was this feeling in the room, in the air — we all could feel like you were on the plane, you were packed. We were going. You could see London; you could smell it."
