This is it, folks. The world premiere of "Michael Jackson's This Is It" has arrived. MTV correspondent Ryan Downey is situated in a prime position on the red carpet to greet celebrity guests while keeping us all tuned in on the happenings. Tune in to MTV at 8:30pm EST to check out the premiere special, but keep it locked here until then for the latest updates from the trenches. So without further ado, take it away Ryan!
Note: All times are listed in PST
3:28pm The carpet is quiet save for the fans who scream when news cameras point remotely near their faces.
3:40pm A guy is passing out sequined gloves to the fans in the bleachers.
3:44pm The "carpet" is actually interconnected red metal rectangles interspersed with white, light up rectangles a la the "Billy Jean" video! I've seen a lot of red carpets and THIS is cool, folks. I wish I had looked down 30 minutes ago.
3:49pm The wind is CRAZY. The plastic wrappers that encased those sequined gloves are flying everywhere. I feel really bad for all of these entertainment reporters in tiny cocktail dresses. Well, maybe not really bad. By the way, all of those plastic wrappers -- not very green.
3:54pm Two stretch limos keep circling the block. I guess nobody wants to be the first to arrive! Limo battle.
4:17pm A guy just stepped onto the carpet - danced, actually - wearing a hat with "MJ Dancer" stitched on the side. My investigative journalist's intuition tells me he might have been one of Michael's dancers at some point.
4:42pm Lou Ferrigno is here!
4:46pm Ashley Tisdale just stepped out of a car and is headed for the carpet, saying some hellos.
4:49pm Adam Lambert, dressed in black from the eyeliner on down, just arrived.
4:51pm Berry Gordy isn't doing interviews. He's a legend. He doesn't
have to! Just seeing him walk by induces chills. So much history.
4:55pm Did I say "legend"? Mickey Rooney just walked by. SO much living history here! Incredible.
4:58pm The cops are finally starting to move some of the folks camping out and logjamming the carpet. "In or out people, pick one!"
5:06pm Avi Arad just arrived-- in a Spider-Man t-shirt. Rep those heroes, Ari!
5:33pm Sugar Ray Leonard is doing an interview right next to me. The champ!
5:53pm Jermaine looks like royalty. Which I suppose makes sense!
5:35pm Sugar Ray Leonard fave MJ song: "Leave Me Alone."
5:40pm Marlon Wayans, Joey McIntyre and David Cook all within a few feet of each other. Now that's an interesting band.
5:50pm J. Lo leaving the carpet.
6:00pm Will Smith, smiling wide and shaking hands with fans.
