Horror icon Robert Englund – the original Freddy Krueger of “A Nightmare on Elm Street” fame – is slashing his way back into action this week, just in time for Halloween, in a new web series called “Fear Clinic.” In the series, Englund portrays a maniacal genius named Dr. Andover who is obsessed with finding new ways to cure people of their greatest fears – even if it kills them.
Last night on “Attack of the Show” Englund spoke at length about his new character. “I’m kind of a misunderstood genius,” he explained. “But I did something bad in the states. I lost my medical license and had to do community service at a prison. Guess who I ran into – Kane Hodder, the original Jason! And I drag his hockey pucked ass down to my clinic south of the border.”
“But I am the last chance,” Englund continued. “The last resort of the beautiful, young children who need a doctor to cure them of their phobias.”
“Fear Clinic” will be released this week in five daily installments on Fearnet.com, with each episode devoted to a different phobia. According to Englund, it’s not for the faint of heart.
“I’ve got to tell you, we found this actress – Kate Nauta, she’s a rocker – and she has the insect phobia [entomophobia]. But it’s based on that old movie “The Believers” by John Schlesinger. And the bugs bore out of her skin. It’s this incredible effect by Robert Hall, our director and our effects guy – he worked on ‘The Sarah Conner Chronicles.’”
“We the audience and Kate see the result,” Englund continued. “But everyone else just sees a cutter. So it’s really extreme stuff for the internet.”
