Jamie Foxx will always have a knack for the funny, as we see in his Mike Tyson impression at the top of the below video. He's completely serious about what his plans are for the headline-grabbing boxer however. Foxx plans to do with Tyson what he previously did with singer Ray Charles in "Ray," which is to say give movie-going audiences a new perspective on a public figure who is equal parts famous and infamous.
What's more, Foxx revealed exclusively to MTV News that he's bringing more than just his acting chops over from "Ray," a performance which netted the actor his first Academy Award. "Taylor Hackford, who also directed [the] Ray Charles [biopic], I think is my man [to direct the Tyson biopic]. We have a certain kinship, and we've talked about when we do get back together what it would be like."
That kinship can be credited, at least in part, for Foxx's Oscar win. His performance is an important component of course, but the actor clearly has a deep respect for Hackford. He also clearly understands that Tyson is a potent subject for a biopic treatment, and not just because of his more controversial headlines.
"I think, for something like [a Mike Tyson biopic] it would be great because everybody remembers that era. And it's been a long enough time that people need a refreshening." Tyson's story is certainly fresh. Hell, it's still being written in many ways. The boxer very nearly stole the show with his extended cameo in the hit summer comedy "The Hangover."
Still, even Tyson is game for his life to be held under the biopic microscope. He even told MTV in April that he'd like Foxx to play him. Now it seems like his wish will soon come true.
Is Foxx right for the part of Tyson? Do you think the Foxx/Hackford pairing will do this story justice?
